  • HOW DO YOU GET THIS RADIO OR WHAT IS THIS BECAUSE I WANT TO KNOW

  • Air Force One is the call sign for *any* USAF aircraft flying the President..if it's an Army, Navy or Marine Corps aircraft the call sign would be Army/Navy/Marine One, and Executive One for any other plane with POTUS on board.

The AF1 747s, when not carrying the President, would use callsigns SAM 28000 or SAM 29000 (Special Air Mission plus tail number).

  • In Israel does the controllers are civils or military??

    great catch!

  • Aircraft of maximum certificated takeoff weight, up to 255,000 pounds create a larger Wake Turbulance and are harder on potential landing runway. Both are considered when assigning where and what runway to land on. Jim/Commercial Pilot.

  • This is what heavy really means. "When talking to air traffic controllers, pilots will add the term Heavy to the end of the flight call sign on flights involving very large aircraft. For example you might hear this : "United 341, heavy, ready for departure".

This term alerts air-traffic controllers that they need to provide extra spacing between aircraft as these aircraft generate significant wake turbulence which can disrupt the flight path of the aircraft right behind.

  • Onboard Airforce1,It isn't exactly name honor of Airforce 1.When the Pres. Steps on board Marine 1 or Airfoce 1 they are officialy airforce1 or marine 1.

  • well who is flying sam 29000 it sounds like Col.Turner

  • Foxy is the callsign of the press plane (1st AS) too btw.

  • SAM 28000/29000 flies w/ it's sister anywhere the President goes for 2 reasons 1) to "scout ahead" for bad weather/unforeseen issues and 2) in case the primary breaks.

  • Air Force One AEHHHHHHHHHHH... Decemnd to 5000 AEHHHHHHHHHHHH...

  • sam 29000 and 28000 fly at the same time always. this is done to make it harder to shoot down.

  • They say Sam 29000 yet the pictures on airliners net from this same day clearly say and show 28000??? do they intentinally say the wrong one?

  • They both came on 09-Jan-2008

The first one was sam 29000 at 11:14 AM

and the second one was AF1 (28000) at11:50 AM

  • Sam obviously means American (as in the country), there are actually two models of air force one- 28000 and 29000

  • SAM means SPECIAL AIR MISSION followed by the tail number 29000 or 28000. Unless the Prez is on board then it becomes AF1, whatever it happens to be...Cessna 172 or the 29000.

  • @kithp There are ALWAYS 2 of the presidential 747!!!! One is 28000 the other is 29000! There ARE TWO Presidential 747 - one has the president - one is a decoy!!!!!!!

  • @kithp When on a mission, the plane is not identified as Air Force One UNLESS the President of the United State is aboard. Otherwise, the two planes are identified as SAM 28000 and SAM 29000.

    .

  • funny... no "Air Force One" callsign. Just SAM 2 9000

  • are you sure ?

  • many of the aircraft from Andrews AFB use SAM as part of their aircraft ID (they transport the Pres., VP, Congressmen, etc.)

  • callsign is usually the flight number and airplane size, heavy for big airplane like Boeing 747

  • The callsign is Air Force One, Duh!

  • "Heavy" for heavy type a/c, that is a/c with takeoff weights of 255,000lbs and higher.

  • Well not exactly, for some aircraft like the Air Force One, the tail only has numbers, I believe the Air Force One is actually 28000, but they call it Air Force One. So whenever the great Air Force One flies, it is known as Air Force One.

  • It is only called Air Force One when the president is on board, and when he is, it is "Air Force One Heavy". When he is not, it would be "Sam 28000 Heavy"

  • You're an idiot. Do you know anything about aircraft? "heavy" designates types of airplane with a specific weight allowance. It has nothing to do with how much it's carrying. Noob.

  • Where are you an airline pilot? Mars? You are absolutely retarded! That is not true at all!

  • Heavy is added to the end of large aircraft (777 and 747 and A380 etc) to tell ATC that they need to space aircraft behind the heavy jet, to a 'more far' distance. I think the minimum spacing is about 5-10 nautical miles. No dumping man!! Wasting fuel!

  • This is from the handbook..Heavy aircraft refers to aircraft CAPABLE of takeoff weights of more than 255,000 pounds. They could be full of anything. They are refered to as heavy due to the massive wake turbulence they generate affecting other aircraft.

  • Air Force One refers to ANY plane the President is on whether it be a 747 or a 737 or a MD-80. In the latter 2 cases there is no HEAVY designation. Granted the President mostly flys the HEAVY 747 but there are some times when he does not but those are few and far between.

  • u must listen, all airlines backed off

  • nope, wrong , AF One took control over commercial airspace....look who landed first, and the professionalism of the way it was done..

  • yup wel im sure that you know that they are only air force one when the president is onboard, any plane carrying the president has the callsign air force one

  • @rjhonert sam 29 000 is the callsign for one of the 2 boeing 747-200b that is normaly refered to as air force one.

  • Must be fun to an Air Force 1 pilot, all the other planes are delayed for you so you never have to wait.

  • I love listening to ATC in Hebrew
