This was a tragical situation that Freddy Prinz killed himself in 1977. I wished he did not do it. He was such a warm and special person.

It had to be hard for Freddie Jr. to accept awards on his Dads behalf. Freddie Jr. is a talented actor, very likeable just like Freddie Sr. I'm sure that Freddie Jr. has had more opportunities in Hollywood because he bears his fathers' name, who most everyone remembers with a smile.

I think it varies on some people. Well... in my case, it was about grandparents, which isn't the same as a mother or a father. Two of my grandparents died before I was born, and the other two died when I was really, really, young. One time someone had asked me if I ever miss not having grandparents. I asked, "how can you miss people you never knew or had in your life?" In Freddie Prinze Jr's case, it's different because he not only lost his dad whne he was a baby, but his dad killed himself

Knowing that his father took his own life has it's own issues. Some that people who have sadly lost parents to illness or accident cannot comprehend.

@MickeyLove01 plus the fact Freddie Jr was 10 or 11 months old when his dad killed himself. Growing up he had to wonder why daddy couldnt hold on to life for HIM. As an adult I hope he knows Depression dosent allow you to think of your spouise, baby , parents etc

I didn't expect him to become so emotional, considering that he never had the chance to actually know his father. But I guess it was overwhelming to the point of being driven to tears. I wonder if they had ever expected to receive such an honor for Freddie Sr. so many years later.
