  • Comedy and Tragedy are never far from each other. One of the greatest misconceptions is that Comdey and Tragedy are polar opposites, when in fact they're identical in many ways. In both, good characters are always flawed. In this film, for example, each an every character to come on screen is a buffoon in one way or another. Salieri, the villain, is the only exception (mostly), but his character is still funny in many ways because hes so dramatic and pathetic. Great characters, and great movie.

  • 2:47 who knows salieri opera name??

  • @gatodx11 Eva Mei: Son queste le speranze, Salieri (Axur re d'Ormus)

  • Salieri: "Actually, the man had no ear at all...

Me: ...but I wasn't gonna tell him that!"

  • I just can't believe how they cut the parts from 5:48 till the end of this clip .It adds A LOT for Salieri's character!

  • emperor of austria how? there was no austrian empire till 1805

  • had to cut the attempted suicide did we. lol

  • This is a great way to procrastinate and study for Spanish at the same time. Oh, good film also. :D

  • what's the choir piece at 6:15?

  • @fgray78 The entire piece is the Sabat Mater, that particular fragment is Quando corpus morietur, by Giovanni Pergolesi

  • 1:02

Listen to the little tune Salieri is messing around with. Listen how he ends on a dominant chord without resolving it to the tonic. Feel how your ear wants to hear it redsolved, feel the light unease when it doesn't. This is how Salieri is introduced to us, a painful longing to meet resolution that he shall never meet. We know the core essence of the character without him speaking a word.

Its the little touches like that which make a great film.

  • @Chefodeath Your comment is magic :)

  • @Chefodeath - your right...holding on for the last note to finalize this little medley in which, we are denied...such as he was denied too, of a gift.

  • @Chefodeath i think thats bull this would be a great film without that kind of difference but im glad to see people notice that kind of stuff

  • @CtrolokDoncov We are disagreed then. Certainly it woul still be a good film without, but I earnestly believe that those little touches are neccesary to a great film.

  • @Chefodeath

It also makes it hard to remember that many liberties were taken to make this a dramatic biopic. Salieri was a fantastic composer and nowhere near the snake that he is portrayed as, here, but the wonderment of this fantastic film makes us want to disregard the truth and have this be our reality :).

  • @Chefodeath Finally a top comment that deserves to be on top! Beautiful words!

  • @Chefodeath I am better than Mozart you know

  • @Chefodeath That pisses me off now

  • @Chefodeath he had a shave but he needs a haircut

  • @Chefodeath Hey man I really appreciate this. what a beautiful comment. this is extremely true intelligent and witty. thank you for bringing that out it made me realize something.

  • can someone tell me the music plays at 5:13 ?

  • @Fattomz Klavierstück K33b in F Major

  • butt!! O3O

  • @Brian88Jay kenny g is a fag

  • can somone tell me the name of the song salieri plays at 3:50? I remeber that song from my youth.

  • @Heartsbane8 Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major, K. 525, more commonly known as "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" ("The little serenade")

  • @McQuackor Oh my F*ing god, I've been searching so long for this. Thank you so much!

  • @McQuackor actually not to contradict you but "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" translated in to English would be "A little night music"

  • one of my best movies ever

  • Heh heh, the irony of Mozart's middle name to the plot of this movie.

    Amadeus... The Love of God.

  • @QuiteUnused that is funny, I never thought of that. I speak Italian and I just never thought of what that name meant. Thank you for your astute observation, Grazie veramente

  • The only thing that annoys me about this scene is the fact that the walls are thin enough that, despite all the hubbub outside, the priest can still hear the soft tinkering of piano keys within, and yet thick enough that, despite all the hubbub outside, silence reigns within the room.

  • @aniboker That's called Hollywood :)

  • @aniboker

Does that annoy you? Well well well.

  • Lol, 21 people listen to Bruno Mars.

  • Damnit even though I know fluent english and spanish those damn subtitles are distracting.

  • I like the swiss guard in the back of the scene when young mozart is playing for the pope. Looks very old-timey. I mean I know the Swiss guard still protects the pope today but the scene in this movie really captures the time well.

  • it's very sad that the priest can't understand what salieri is proving...

  • @Rhapsody3991 Dont you think he finally does? I mean at the end of the film.

  • @yt3694420 no... no man who's not a musician can really understand what he's proving...

  • @Rhapsody3991 Yes, this person speaks the truth..

  • Salieri = poor mans Mozart.

  • Abraham earned his Oscar with his reading of the line "Are they?" at 1:40

  • please tell me name of opera at 2:55 !:)

  • 20 people are Salieri

  • Comment removed

  • Hearing Salieri speak about his life before Motzart is heart-braking, especially when he says "I liked myself", he was a hard-working man who had a passion and love for music and made good on his commitment to God whom he was very faithful to. Having seen the movie before, when he says "Until he came" I cringe knowing what happens next. Of course it's a fictitious story, but in the context of the film it's tragic.

  • @IMPYEMU - salieri is proof God's love is not mutual........

    BEWARE

  • what is the name of the opera at 2:55 ?

  • What is the piece by Salieri at 3:07? Please!

  • @Lity10 Axur, re d'Ormus

  • @robotpanda77: I bet u prefer classic, but don't try to compare 2 kinds of different music-genres ridiculously like this. Why are hip hop, dance, trance... so popular nowaday, there has to be a reason. Just like the world keeps changing, people keeps growing up (-old), music keeps developing in many different kinds of way. Try to feel it instead of complaining about the "overrated" music, which you don't place value on.

  • "All man are equal in God`s eyes!"

    "Are they?"

Best dialogue ever in a movie!

  • impressive.. seen it a long time ago but never could forget it ..

  • mediocrities... mediocrities everywhere.

  • 03:55 what music is?

  • @SperanzaVerde Eine kleine Nachtmusik

  • such an imersing film

  • hey earthlings I can run the 4 minute mile and my music is the best, plus I can out drink any of you.

  • Y is there some fight in the very beginning ???

  • The opera piece that Salieri plays is actually really really good. In fact, the "recognizable" & popular pieces of Mozart don't hold a candle to his opera works... that's what composers lived to write for in those days

  • "No.....it was.....Mozart."

  • WE do have greats of our day Edward Van Halen, Steve Vai, Joe Satrani, Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine... If Mozart was alive he would make fun of them in public and then go to his room and listen to these guy's all night long. He may have partied with them and wrote with them who knows!

  • Victum of child prodigy..though the thought of Mozart flirting w/Marie antoinette as a young kid amuses me

  • Wat is the name of the song salieri plays that the priest recognizes?

  • @XxObsessionCentralxX Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

  • I have not loved a movie quite THIS much in so long I forget how long it has been. LOL

  • HELP! SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG IN THE MINUTE 5:13

  • @tomoxche Contredanse but on harpsichord.

  • @tomoxche Mozart's own work. K. 33b

  • @yourfellowmusician

Thanks a lot, That´s the correct song!!!!!!!

  • that priest must be one hell of an idiot if he didnt know Mozart wrote that

  • @KennyParkz

Mozart didn't - Salieri did, so he doesn't remember him. xD

  • @lilanimemaniac huh?

  • What about the tune at 3:51 - what is that called?

  • @maybe106 Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

  • Salieri also worked with Beethoven. Tried to help him write operas, unfortunately operas did not work out for Ludwig.

  • Are the subtitles in Italian?

  • @marialee330 no, the subtiles are in spanish.

  • who's here because of the simpsons episode?

  • @devssuck I'm actually here because of the Simpsons episode lol

  • whos here because of the simpsons episode?

  • does anyone knows what that song is beginning at 0:30???????????

  • plzplzplzplz if someone can PLEASE tell me what song is that salieri was teaching emperor joesph at 8:10

i can't find ANY ANY ANY answer, it has been 2 years already i swear

  • Doesn't this come out as anti-Christianity do you? It's a bit of an atheist movie.

  • @MovieMaster0001 It is fiction : /

  • @MovieMaster0001 mozart was in fact an atheist, but I wouldn't go that far to say that this was a atheist movie, this just show how crazy people can go with jealousy and hatred ,"God is being unfair" is merely an excuse Salieri used to find his own sense of righteousness.

though what he said was true, being mediocrity sucks :(

  • @Iamatheist1234 Mozart was not an atheist.

  • @devilxhlywood Yes he was an atheist, do some research, you can also tell by a few memorable quotes of him declaring his disbelief in Christianity.

  • Comment removed

  • @Iamatheist1234

You seem to make this claim completely out of thin air. Mozart by all accounts was very much a man of god. Go to google books, search for the book "The letters of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1769-1791)". Search the word "god" in the text. All you see is belief in God, and actually disdain for atheists. "Friends who have no religion cannot be long our friends." -Mozart to his father in regards to a faithless family. He also reveled in the death of the"ungodly Voltaire".

  • @devilxhlywood take that religion bullshit to an atheist video

  • are the subtitles Portuguese?

  • @Marmalade000000 espanol

  • What is the song at 2:53 , from salieri please ?

  • @xEspaDax95

It is Axur, Re d'Ormus from Son Queste le Speranze I believe.

  • wat was the song the priest sang along to mozarts piece

  • @ShadowMaster2516 A Little Night Music

  • wats the name of the song that the preist sang along too?

  • A masterpiece - they don't make them like this any more.

  • Weird Naked Guy!

  • @Funkmaster2014 you have to to wear clothes 24/7?

  • Does anyone know what piece is being played at 6:15? Is it one of Mozart's Masses?

  • Whats the song at 3:50?

  • @TnBfilmx watch?v=DOkMDJqTEoo <-- its called a little night music, its the song that plays at 3:50

  • I liked Salieri much more than Mozart : /

  • " I'm sorry, I did not know you wrote that!", "I didn't.....that was Mozart " - the whole life in just one simple dialog. simply great.

  • @staudtwerner the poor old composer got owned....

  • thanks soo much for uploading! I love this movie; my choir teacher had us watch this at least once a month, lol.

  • Mozart was top gun back then. What do we have now? Lady Gaga? Kenny G? Miley Cyrus? Wtf

  • @robotpanda77 at least we had Freddie Mercury

  • @robotpanda77 They are all of the same allegiance. ;-)

  • @robotpanda77 don't forget Justin Bieber a little creep!

  • @robotpanda77 don't forget Justin Bieber a little creep

  • @robotpanda77 those people are no different from him. its just that now, people prefer a different type of music.

  • @krydsewa Yeah, Miley Cyrus and Mozart were very alike. ALMOST LIKE TWINS.

  • @robotpanda77 first of all, they are both musically inclined. second of all, the only difference is that mozart has autistic traits. so get off your high horse and come back to reality and realize that the music that mozart wrote back then was popular music, as is miley cyrus' music. just because you dont like her because she was hannah montana or she has a unique voice, doesnt mean she isnt good. you need to open your mind or youll spend your life being ignorant of good music.

  • @krydsewa

"first of all, they are both musically inclined. second of all, the only difference is that mozart has autistic traits. so get off your high horse and come back to reality and realize that the music that mozart wrote back then was popular music, as is miley cyrus' music."

In any context, there is a superlative... something that rises above its peers. As such, of all the hopelessly moronic youtube comments I'll read today, I am supremely confident this will be by far the dumbest.

  • @Murchad99 hahaha.... i bet your the type of person who only listens to classical, romantic, and baroque music. and if so, the only thing you are doing is hurting yourself. IN ORDER TO APPRECIATE GOOD MUSIC, YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE LIMITS OF EACH GENRE. NOT JUST THE GENRE YOU JUST SO HAPPEN TO LIKE. and if you dont like miley cyrus, lady gaga, or kenny g, then do the world a favor and stop promoting them on every page you possibly can. because i honestly just think you're jealous of their talent.

  • @krydsewa ... You have no idea how many genres of music I listen to and enjoy, so your comment is aimless prattle. To review: you made a ridiculous statement that pop star performance artists selling an image would be Mozart's equivalent minus the "autistic traits", and I congratulated you on winning the daily moron award. If you can intelligently support your argument without without putting words in my mouth or telling me what I like, do so. Or... you can tell me how Beiber > Beethoven.

  • @Murchad99 i didnt put any words in your mouth. besides TO REVIEW: i never said that bieber > Beethoven. Maybe thats just you trying to find a way to actually come to terms with your denial. you are very close minded. you should attend tsu. all their band members are that. way

  • @robotpanda77 ladi gaga eminem lil wayne and others they sell theyr souls to the divol, looock eminem 666 lil wayne possesd ladigaga 666 iluminatii all and the yserve satan!belive i nJesus Christ The Son of Almighty God our Father!!!Viva Israel The Gods chosen people!!!Amin.

  • @robotpanda77 nowadays it's all backwards- which is why I teach my children the more enduring things in life, like the classics and classical music. Believe me, they are very happy and confident kids :) But you know, it means nothing without God first.

  • @tippitytop1 that's great! :) but make sure that's what they actually like to do tho , if so, that's a perfect family you have there!

  • @Iamatheist1234

Oh of course I make sure! While no person or family is ever perfect, it is good to say at the end of every day, we can rest in peace, love, and happiness. Thanks to God it is so :)

  • @tippitytop1 glad to hear that :)

  • @robotpanda77 whoooooa, Kenny G is a fucking boss when it comes to jazz, you shouldnt hate on him, the others i do understand though

  • @robotpanda77 lol whats with the random remark bout Kenny G.....

  • Now we have Emily Bear & David Styles

  • @robotpanda77 you forgot Justin Biber

  • @robotpanda77 Mozart looks a lot like Lady Gaga in this movie...

he wasn't "top gun" reaaaallly. wrote an opera about a brothel. Brilliant, yes. Stand-up gentleman, not so much.

  • @osullivanbrandon how dare you insult Mozart, Tom Hulce and Milos Forman by comparing this Mozart to lady shit shit !!!

  • @robotpanda77 Kenny G? What?

  • @robotpanda77 Just think about how quickly these modern "musicians" will be forgotten, and how long Mozart has been & will be remembered for times to come... i bet a greater number of people are into Mozart today than Miley Cyrus even still!

  • @robotpanda77 Leonard Bernstein, John Williams...

  • @robotpanda77 Actually the Magic of Music lives on in the media of movies... We have for instance John Williams

  • @robotpanda77 cant forget that snot nose punk Justin Bierber,Selna Gomez

  • I agree, I feel very unfair when someone compares Mozart to pop music stars as if modern stars pursue something similar as what Mozart did. Well movie is exaggerated, we never know whether Mozart could have been that hedonistic and effortless to create music.

For me, I give more respect to classical talents, for its hard effort and arduous time to reach the true maestro level.

Do you hear " prodigy" or "genius" from pop music sector? I'm afraid not....
