  • It is rare to find an artist that does not have a song you dong enjoy. But for my that is Ryan...

  • What a great songwriter.................

  • What a song should be..... Sounds great with just a vocal and a guitar.

  • holy shit what language are those geeks spittin damn son wtf

  • I think these are Neumann TLM 103 studio mics. Correct me if I'm wrong! Good alternative are the AKG C414's. Good luck recording!

  • @tylandism - Thanks so much for your reply. The results they got out of this performance were outstanding. Thanks again!

  • Any recognize these mics? Best recorded sound of this song IMO.

  • @dannyboooy72 i agree, somehow this version has even more energy than the album version

  • Stop to fix glasses at 2:55 haha love it.

  • I've always enjoyed more forward thinking music( progressive) if you will but this guy just has so much damn soul. this guy and ray lamontagne just kill at what they do. so glad to have cats like this around in my generation.

  • Hey guys, i did a cover of Ashes and Fire on my channel, if you wanna check it out, would be very much appreciated!

  • Harmony Buck Owens American....@ $3-4,000 online..

  • @cannedpoo don't think so, try 1 - 2000

  • He's like the reincarnation of Gram Parsons, especially on this song---got the demons to go with the genius, too.

  • Wow! Now that is a true talented musician! You rock my socks!

  • Just found this guy today. Glad i did.

  • @nacnac4 Come Pick me up on David Letterman rocks.

As dose Touch ,Feel Lose at Austin city limits.

    Enjoy This gens. Dylan.

  • Wow, he is the BEST person I've ever heard live! He needs no computers whatsoever, and its amazing to find an artist like that nowdays!

  • Ryan Adams gets on my nerves. Cause of him their is now like a 20 way tie for my favorite song. All his stuff BTW.

  • Is he related to Rick Moranis

  • @bluto2143 maybe chuck norris

  • I"m not a big Ryan Adams fan, but this is fantastic.

  • Simple and direct -- superb!

  • Does anybody know what harmonica je's playing in this vid and what key its in? sounds like C to me but im not sure

  • @songmanslim I believe that it's B flat.

  • @jpdurham100

b flat didn't sound right having trouble figuring it out

  • @spencergraysonwagley I know that the key of the song is B flat (played as if it's in G with a capo on the third fret). The harmonica could be a G minor. The bridge mirrors the chords of the chorus, which begins with a G minor. If it isn't a B flat that's my best guess.

  • PURE Talent! Doesn't get any better than this folks!

  • this man is good fore reall

  • It is a Buck Owens American from the '70s.

  • I love Ryan Adams. He's one of the best artists out there! 2:54 he adjusts his glasses. awsome!

  • @mobjakmusic see mtv's nirva.unplug'd is that the same Buck Owens box?

  • this is real music... no fake 10 gallon hat HD cowboy denim shit but just a proper musician no frills pure heart.. what a legend!

  • @robacoustic gay comment

  • he is hot!

  • Man, this guy just keeps cranking out good stuff! I wonder if the well is ever going to run dry for him. I kind of doubt it.

Where on Earth did he find that guitar? I think it's a Buck Owens American.

  • @Mobjackmusic

I was talking to a friend who thinks it's a Buck Owens, too.

  • @Mobjackmusic - Nah, this is type of musician where good songs just seem to fall out their fingers...

  • back to his best - and not a minute too soon.

  • ryan, i love this live version more than the recorded one. you totally rock dude

  • I like the song, but is it just me or was it played on a $150 guitar? haha

  • Ryan...Wow. Thank you.

  • This is sooooo awesome! I love that slinky, loose guitar!

  • Chicken Salade + Ryan Adams = Great Show in Breda!!

  • Heard this wonderfull tune in the recordstore some weeks ago. thought it was something from the 60ts; Donovan or Early Dylan. And got suprised when i learned that it was a totaly new recording. Beautifull!

  • I heard this in live last night in Paris, great song.... this guy's got a great stage presence, sense of humour, great guy all around :)

  • What an amazing song from an equally amazing artist.

  • he's just better than everyone. period.

  • that Neumann TLM 102 sounds awesome on his guitar

  • Bloody awesome..... Dylan reïncarnated

  • Great vocalist

  • One of my greatest heroes!!

  • Who's sick idea was it to use that morning alarm clock fx in the beginning. Once a day is enough.

  • One of his best. No doubt

  • Great stuff! Big fan of Ryan......great to see him back! :)

  • wow, hes wearing a emperor shirt

  • can someone tell me the name of that guitar?

  • @concas85 Don't know, but it looks like Buck Owens' guitar.

  • @concas85 Buck Owens American

  • Tenth time playing this today... still sending shivers through me.

  • We need more artists like Ryan Adams. Real writers and performers instead of the wave of bubblegum pop, that the record labels keep foisting on us. One thing I would say about Ryan though, and that is I wish he would exercise a little more self imposed "quality control". He's really prolific, but it sounds to me like he records absolutely every idea he comes up with. I'd like him to maybe record 10 of every song he writes. Then you'd see a killer album.

  • DJ = Dork.

  • I wonder if Giel Beelen realises what kind of artist is playing in his studio

  • I've been a huge Ryan Adams fan since Whiskeytown. Have every record, single, demo I can get my hands on. Have seen him live 9 times. In my opinion, Ashes and Fire is his best work since Gold. Terrific writing, great melodies. Will go down as one of his best, no question. Can't wait to see you in Michigan again, Ryan. Thank you for years of great music and memories.

  • @TheAdvocateMan since Gold? Come on, man. Gold was overproduced. Some real gems that shined after that record (New York, New York on the piano, the slowed down Firecracker, La Cienega without the double guitar). Best thing since LIH would be more accurate. Although Cold Roses is fantastic.

  • @RonanOShea See, I love Gold as much for the quality of the writing/lyrics as for the music and the melodies. I'm a musician (play guitar and harmonica) and a professional writer. I find the writing in many of Ryan's songs to be, well, pedestrian and even nonsensical at times. But that's just me. Art is art. I find the writing on Ashes and Fire to be compelling, visual and visceral, stirring. Conjures up memories of Whiskeytown and, yes, Gold. Of course, I love Heartbreaker too.

  • @Blaxland02 @bork217 Actually, I've been reading up online and most think he uses an Eb (which I haven't personally tried). I've got a Bb and it works just as well...

  • @Blaxland02 @bork217, it's a Hohner Blues Harp in Bb, not Eb. You'll find that Ryan uses a Bb with the capo on 3rd fret pretty often, so if you get one you can play a range of his songs i.e. Ashes and Fire; Firecracker; Come Pick Me Up; Dance All Night; I Taught Myself How to Grow and many more...

  • @dannywhitenospace I use an Eb to play Firecracker and Dance All Night. Last night, I used the Bb while figuring out Ashes and Fire on the acoustic. Much better for that particular song.

  • @TheAdvocateMan Ashes and Fire is in Bb I believe.

  • ryan adams in the fall. good.

  • Nice. Reppin' the Vison Streetwear hi-tops

  • what a harp player

  • The two lines i was missing were "The bums on the bowery..." and "The Cats were all Calico" although he sings Cats WAS all Calico in this version :)

  • Does anyone know what chord formations he's using in this song?

  • @BinAlaDiN Capo 3rd fret. G,C,D and Em are the chords. he uses different variations of G and C. Watch his fingers and you'll pick it up.

  • As he stared past the fire,

His hunger to leave well it gnawed his poor heart alive,

Her skin smelled like black cherry, blossom perfume, the sail boats they all sailed by... and a river she cried.

and the wind was suddenly sweeter than Roosevelt pine,

The windows broke out and the cigarette smoke was drifting by,

The (bums on the barrier?!?) were swallowed in the lights as cars rumbled by in the night... screaming run for your life.

  • very nice indeed.......can't wait to hear you in Seattle

  • very nice....

  • anyone got the lyrics?? i NEED them!!

  • its an eb.

  • he got a warm nice voice i love it!

  • hard to find an artist who sounds better "live" than in studio. him and tallest man are masters at this..

  • Hi!

I noticed you like good music! I'm a massive Ryan Adams fan! I think you may also like my music? Have a listen to my new demo 'Yes I would' by my project 'Lets Make Movies Instead...' and let me know what you think? leave a comment etc...

    Peace,

    Gavin.

  • Such a brilliant musician.

What key harmonica is he using?

    Does anyone know?

  • @Blaxland02 Ryan plays a Hohner Blues Harp.

  • @bork217 Yes, I realise it's a Hohner Blues harp but do you know what key it's in?

  • @Blaxland02 I would guess Eb, because of the capo on the 3rd. That's what Firecracker and Come pick me up are.

  • Oh Ryan.. You are unstoppable.

  • Excellenty! The pause to give his glases a push makes it perfect

  • so is that actually Buck's old guitar or a reproduction???

  • un damn believable.

  • hell yeah ! SO GOOD !

  • Jammer dat zoveel *"3FM luisteraars" niet doorhebben dat dit een "Mozart" van het 2e millenium kan zijn

  • wish i had a buck owens harmony guitar.

  • best writer...eva!

  • good god, he sounds fantastic
