Its cruel to keep fish in a bowl, most of fishes would actually die in it but goldfish and few others are very tough ones so they can SURVIVE in a bowl, but live nothing near their normal age (which is like 10 years), and generally are not happy.
Actually goldfish needs very big aquarium to grow to its normal size... You should stop keeping fishes in a bowl. In here Finland its actually forbidden by law to keep any fish in tank smaller than 40 litres.
Second of all, listen to my explanation in the beginning of the video.
Third of all, my betta has been having trouble swimming. She got swim bladder disease, but even now that I think it's gone away, she's getting so old that she's been having trouble swimming. My fish tank current is too strong for her to handle, and actually if I put her in my tank she could die. So a fish bowl right now is my only choice.
@ICFROGS Whatever, but for any healthy fish bowl should be never option, they need space to really swim. And I doubt that it would really suffer in a bigger tank, especially if there is not much water flow which would force it to swim too much.
By the way how often you change the water? You should do it pretty often as there is no proper bacteria which would break waste made by fish / fish food to nitrate, but instead it becomes nitrite which is toxic to all fishes.
@ICFROGS Actually in here Finland its also forbidden by law to keep any fish on any tank below 10.5 gallons, which means that normal fish bowls are forbidden here.
I know that bettas / fighting fishes can be put on very small ones, but still I think that bowls is way too small.
@ICFROGS Anyways at least betta fish can be kept in pretty small aquariums, some idiots put goldfishes to bowls when really there should be at least 20 gallons for each of them ( and there should be more than one of them too). Thats pure animal abuse...
@Pvjinflight Yep, you're absolutely right. And it's not just about the size of the bowl, it's also about the shape. The round shape isn't good for animals health either, as weird as it may sound. Fish bowls are too small, and wrong shaped too, so don't use them people.
It is cruel keep your fish in a bowl. You should change it to a fish tank. You are slowly killing your goldfish. Not being mean, just feel sorry for this fish!
@ICFROGS Well it's a tank with water in it with a pump which doesn't have a strong current, whatever it's your fish just felt I needed to say it's not the best way to keep a fish. (-:
@xX03DevilDog11Xx In a fish bowl, you can't really change only part of the water. The water would be extremely dirty if you did only part of it. But with a fish tank, yes, only part of the water should be changed.
@ICFROGS I have a 1.5 gallon and i only change 1/3 and the water is clear and VERY clean still.... ill upload a video when i do mine...but still nice vid
@ICFROGS hey girly dont listen to all these goofballs, especially the one from Finland. I have a male betta and its been six years so far and he is healthy and even does a fin dance every time i feed him. Keep up the great vids;)
@icfrogs well if you're going to get a pet then you should get a suitable tank I have a still water tank. Saying that she's still around isn't actually the point, the point is that it might carrying on living but it's not a great way to live.
@bethanyvictoria4 A still water tank? How does that work? But anyways, she's growing old now, so I don't think she'll be around much longer. It wouldn't be a smart choice to get a tank just to have her pass away a couple weeks later.
I'm sorry but that's not an acceptable way to keep a fish it's cruel the bowl is too small you should keep them in a tank and you should have some nice real plants in their to make it more interesting for your fish.
@bethanyvictoria4 I do have a tank, but it has a really strong current so I'm not able to put my betta in my tank. In the wild, bettas swim in still water, so their bodies aren't made to take the strong currents. I know it's not very nice to keep her in a small bowl, but I've had her for around 3 years now and she's still around. Since I got her when I didn't have a whole lot of knowledge about fish, I didn't really have much of a choice but to put her in a bowl.
@faflover1 actually it's easier to have a bigger tank because in a bowl bacteria grows faster. But in a bigger tank in takes longer for gross bacteria to grow because the tank has such a wide area.
i think a bowl is better becase with a tank you have to do yearly clean and thats true if you have a 5 gallon tank its easy but i have a 50 gallon tank and thays hard to clean so buy a bowl or a 5 gallon tank
@siarrahbabey14 NOOO. Even the tiniest bit of soap might leave a trace behind in the bowl, and your fish WILL die. Just clean it with hot water and that will be what kills the germs and all that.
@ICFROGS i clean my fish tank and i have dawn soap and my mom said that its safe for animals because its that 1 dallor donation thing type of saop is it safe to use a tiny bit of it?
Some fish are made to live in fish bowls, like fighter fish or whatever you call them...they dont move around like a lot of fish do and they don't need air bubble machine things like other fish do, they make their own air bubbles. So as long as you have the right fish for a bowl your fine
@midawozer I do have it cycled at the moment, but here's the bad news. 1. One of the bettas died (lived for about two years) 2. My other betta has swim bladder disease so she isn't able to swim in the strong current my biocube has. I really wish I could let her have the tank, because before when she did have it she absolutely loved it. Swim bladder is a really sad disease :(
@221hamsterlover The plant is from Petsmart and on the website they call it a Penn-Plax Aqua-Plant Water Lily. The rocks are from a different petstore that is only in my state... I think there's only two. Petsmart has some rocks like it though and they're called Topfin Silver Decor Stones. Topfin also makes some stones that are bright blue which are also available at Petsmart.
@wwekraze111 Yes... just as long as it gets rid of all the chlorine and nastiness from the tap water (if you're using RO water, I don't think you have to condition the water because it's already safe).
@92darlene Well, not all DISEASES, but I had waterborne algae, swim bladder, ick, bleeding under the skin... all kinds of bad stuff. I needed to start all over.
ok thanks :) well......it kind of would be a good idea to send me the papers because i've searching on gold fish. if you want me to see the papers....anyway thanks.
I have nearly finished watching all your videos :) and btw im getting to goldfish and I don't know what would be a good size tank for two gold fish!! could you please tell me if you know? thankyou
@Britney9122000 Well, I could go on and on about why you need this big of a tank, but you need at least 29 gallons. So I would recommend a 30 gallon tank. I would also recommend a filter for a tank size bigger than the tank itself... maybe for 40-50 gallons. The reason why I say that is because goldfish are really dirty and all that, so you need a good filter. Goldfish especially need clean water. I did a whole paper on this last year, if you want me to send it to you, haha.
@ICFROGS No its a filter cause i first got it for a goldfish but he sadly died :( but i got a betta so i put him in it ok thanks i think ill clean ever other week but thanks for replyin
@MoniqueHorseyMusic Unfortunately, you can't have filters in a fish bowl. It's just too small. A fish bowl is very easy to clean... after having if for a while now, it takes me about 5 minutes to clean. Hardly any time at all. As I kind of explained in the intro, a fish bowl isn't exactly the BEST choice. I would get an aquarium, if you were trying to decide between the two.
@MoniqueHorseyMusic sometimes small squareish "bowls" come with filters, i don't reccomend using them if you have a betta fish, mine kept getting sucked in towards the filter, especially because its a bowl and there is no place to hide from the current, so no filters, if you want a bowl you will have to clean it like i do :) sorry :(
how many times do I clean the my 2.5 unfiltered tank?
FishLover1781 1 month ago
@FishLover1781 Once a week. But if you can, I suggest upgrading to a filtered tank.
