  • Because humans' hips and birth canal are very narrow since we moved from moving on all fours up to walking on two legs. It is easier and less painful for other mammals because their bodies are made for the easiest passage of the baby.

  • i love the bear center. lily is from the bear center in Ely MN. She Is My Favorite Bear There.

  • i love lilys cub so cuteee

  • Thanks to all the hard working ppl who not only make this type of magic available to us all.. but in doing so, help the animals of our world! Well done and thank you! I've loved checking in on Lily from time to time and am thrilled you put the "best bits" up here! =D

  • Lily amazes me every time I watch the videos or the live feeds...way to go girl

  • That is so cute, makes me want to donate a few bucks to help them out with the debt at the bear center.

  • I hope the wolves don't find her.

  • I SAW THIS WHILE I WAS AT SCHOOL LIVE

  • so cute!!! it screams like a human child!

  • Amazing! The cub really does sound like a human baby. :)

  • ive been watching lily for a whilee<3 my friend is "married" to herr

  • Who's Lily?

  • good job

  • Thanks Mr. Heilig. I needed something to cheer me up after the Vikings loss

  • Black Bears are one of the coolest animals on the planet. Thanks for the video.

  • this video is awesome :)))

  • cool!...the cub sounded like a human child...

@kanzaki88 - "just always wondered why animals are very quiet when they give birth while humans scream their lungs out. hahaha. very sweet video." - I agree with you! hahaha

  • I would imagine that part of the reason is proportional size. Lily is over 200 lbs and a cub averages 12 oz. Average human female 140, average human baby, 7 lbs. If they didn't have to worry about attracting predators, they just might make a little more noise too.

  • Bears are cool

  • The cub sounds like a baby O:

You learn something new every day...

  • the sound of the cub is just so awesome... just always wondered why animals are very quiet when they give birth while humans scream their lungs out. hahaha. very sweet video.

  • the cub sounded like human child...

  • That is sooo cute

  • Wow this is amazing!!! I wish I got to see the full video though, and it's crazy the baby cub sounds like a real born baby. O:

  • 10/5 great vid

  • Cute!

  • What a heart warming video :)

  • Amazing! It's amazing this giant creatures have such natural instincts of calming and soothing their newborn.

I don't see Lily smacking the baby in the ass, so why do we do that?

  • so the baby breaths

  • Whatever we do, the point is to make the child cry so that he or she can expell any fluid still in their lungs and start breathing air.

  • They should call her "Stevie"..she was born of Steve Perrys birthday...great job Lily..

  • all i see is black fur lol

  • At about 2:20 start watching for a tiny, tiny arm of the cub on the lower left hand side of the screen.

  • we can also use youtube to help fight the corruption that comes from campaign financing. I'm running for congress and have a good vid about it on my page if you care to look

  • Dont call me stupid and all.But is it a Cub giving Birth to a cub,Or just a mom giving birth?

  • 1 she had one and this were watching berfor this at school

  • @LorraineALD lol i couldent here it but i saw it

  • @LorraineALD oh nvm i hear now

  • How many did she have?

  • one cub

  • i cant see the cub at all

  • All you can see is it's arm reaching out and touching its mother- it happens twice in the video

  • I watched Lily for over a month and missed the birth but just watched it. I wish you could have seen a better view of baby cub. Lily new she was going to give birth because the last couple days she prepared her den.

  • I need new glasses , I can't see it ?

  • At about 2:20 start watching for a tiny, tiny arm of the cub on the lower left hand side of the screen.

  • It show you how a bear can treat their baby better then some humans. Not sure how rare it is for a bear to abandon or beat their kid, but watching this video shows how human like they are and it tells me that all mother bears are like this. Sad to see a bear know how to go out and feed it's young and nurture it and you have humans who don't go out and feed their kids and don't nurture them. Why is that? Is it because humans have to deal with more things that stress you out?

  • What are you talking about? This is a video of a bear giving birth, not a documentary on how to it raises their cubs. Humans do know how to feed and nurture their children, what are you doing? only thinking about the ones that can't?? Even the ones that can't try, its not their fault, its the way the system turned out to be, & not everyone fits in it. These bears are in their natural habitat, we're not.

Also, not all bears are the same you prejudice bastard!

  • Animals will sometimes eat or abandon their young in times of stress or famine, so no, all mother bears are not like this one.

  • I've been watching this video at my school and I'm watchingbit right now

  • Any advice? I have tried for the second day and I cannot see the video. I have watched others on this site, but can't see Lily!!

  • @ddegraw vid wont play for me either

  • @sarah20xoxo me neither, must be an overload of people trying to view the vid

  • Aw I love Ely! I was just there last September! :)

  • It's great to see something so beautiful

  • Better gay than stupid. Enjoy that vanishingly narrow tract that passes for your mind. ☺

  • cute baby :)

  • @moosonee3

And yet you took the time to not only watch the video, but comment about it as well.

This is the first time any of this has been captured. Grow up and appreciate what you're actually watching.

  • well said mnvacation :)

  • The newborn reaches out a tiny paw

    to touch her mother's face

    as it squeals and cries

    While Lily licks & grunts

    "it's alright little one"

and then pulls her baby close

to save it from the cold winter nigh

  • Way to go Momma Bear Lily. We have been glued to this. I was at work and a fellow teacher had her students run a note down to me to let me know of the birth. We are all so thankful for opportunity to watch this miracle.

  • it's like you want her to hold her baby up to the camera and say, look what I just did!!!

  • Only one cub?

  • Looks like it. Bear usually have one to three cubs, two normally, but Lily is very young, 3, so one makes sense.

  • We have been watching Lily for about a week now and were sooooo happy to get to see the birth as it was happening! My 4 children and I started jumping up and down and yelling. Very cool! And we are so glad they posted the video on here so we can re-live it again and agian.
