You're misunderstanding something basic (but important) here. Humans did NOT evolve from chimpanzees NOR from monkeys (and a chimpanzee is NOT a monkey by the way).

Rather, humans and chimps share a common ancestor (around 6 million years ago) and with monkeys even earlier than that.

Saying that humans came from chimps is analogous to saying that YOU came from one of your cousins.

And actually, housecats survive exceedingly well without people. There was an old lady, all alone, with many house cats. She passed away and no one knew what to do with the cats, so they just threw them out to survive or die on their own in the community. Those cats went feral and now plague a nearby community.

@haters123 - Some people can't deal with tiny rat-like dogs. I can't (except for perhaps the pugs). I don't think them as dogs anymore. Oh, and their "squeals", which can hardly be considered barks. Maybe not huge dogs, but medium dogs like the golden retriever, husky or the akita are adorable and manageable... and still look like dogs. Don't flame me now, I'm just stating my opinion.

However, in the documentary the idea was that we all mysteriously (and hygienically) disappeared mysteriously so no decomposing corpses left around.
