This is a cool video. I was told by a ticket counter agent at Ontario International Airport that the planes at this airport take off practically straight up almost. He said this is due to the noise abatement ordinance of Orange County. But don't quote me on this. I am merely repeating what he told me! Once again, neat video!
Bad engineering?? How about a bird strike, like the one that brought down that US Airways A320? Those engines were not poorly engineered; aircraft engines can't handle an encounter with that many large birds.
I just hope the wildlife abatement at SNA is as good as the noise abatement.
Full thrust takeoff with brakes applied at beginning. Climb about 20 degrees with full power until pass the highway. Thrust brought back to about 70% with aircraft leveled out. Pass over newport bay. Thrust up again. About a min later thrust down and a sharp turn to the left or right. Then they power up and fly to their destinations.
rich assholes want the service (and cheap fares) out of SNA but dont want the noise forcing jets to do a stupid retarded power back procedure at 1000 ft! Ask any pilot how full their hands would be were you to lose an engine while doing that, but God forbid we disturbed these spoiled CA fruitcakes!!
What the hell? This ain't retarted. It has to be done and it's not a really hard job to do. If they don't do the power down then they aren't gonna be able to fly to the airport period.
Well I don't really understand what your saying. I live in Hawaii and focus on Hawaii aviation. I used to be interested in John wayne but my dad flew for aloha airlines and they doesn't fly there anymore so.
how would you like to have to drive 2 hrs+ in traffic to get to LAX if it weren't for service to smaller airports like this one? can't have your cake and eat it too!. You want the service, the CHEAP fares but not the noise. Typical spoiled artsy fartsies california fruitcakes! People at MDW don't complaint or just deal with it!
good for them. They don't want the noise but want the service, and it is safe to have both, what's the problem. You think Californians are fruitcakes, man the only fruitcake here is you.
"it is safe to have both", just ask anyone who knows anything about aviation (obviously you don't) how full their hands would be if you lost an engine during that ridiculous powerback procedure at 1000 ft. All so that we don't disturb rich assholes!
let me spell it out for you cuz obviously you lack basic brain function: an engine out procedure right after take off is very critical, you need all the power you can get; add to that pulling back on the power at 1000 ft to apeace the rich mfers below and then you lose an engine, it's not a walk in the park. I'm done, I did not study or major in dealing with people with special needs!

wow, using ur own words, u just said that it is a safe maneuver. and I would agree with you, but planes are not crashing. if an engine did break it would be bad engineering on the company that built the engine.
O and it's extremely fun seeing you get pissed off at this. You are right you did not study or major in dealing with special needs or else you would know how to better take care of yourself.
true that, i can attest by living near KMDW the houses are literally right up next to the runway not a quarter mile away like john wayne, and nobody complains....
Great video!...amazing power and climbout...btw, you can use cameras on aircraft...just not cell phones, pagers and laptops wireless internet...its in the FARs.
yeah, they say turn of electrical devices that can cause interference with them like fones and stuff...wasn't sure that time that they meant everything...they played the message too late! this is from my digicam though..sorry!
Eh, even if it is a rule to turn off electronics, it isn't like they can order you to turn off your recorder during take off when they're seated like everyone else, lol XD

then why are u whining? It would be safe to say that the pilot would have his hands full if an engine stopped working in any situation.
