i heard this in 95 and i have been looking for it since then. thank you so much for posting this. if i could only stop pressing replay, i might get something done. unreal
damn that bass is pounding in my brain for at least 24 hours after i hear this song. Ben and Matt are really melding with their sounds and it's just amazing what this band can accomplish. I hope the next album is legendary.
Got to pick up the "Basketball Diaries" soundtrack. The studio version of this tune is on there. I agree with everyone here- one the best all time Soundgarden tracks. Should have been on Superunknown.
Why the hell isn't this on an album, it is a very dense heavy tune. I hope they ditch any industry focus groups and just write kick ass songs for the new album...Just write and play and mix them how they want them to sound. I'd prefer that they just abandon all the recording and mixing techniques currently popular and go with recording them all live. Follow the ol' Bob Dylan rule: "get in get it down and get the fuck out."
@lusthog73 I kind of agree to a point. I really loved those demos chris released in the 90's because they were so raw and carried a unique ambience. But the thing with SG is they create soundscapes which can require a lot of production and multi-tracking guitar and vocals. When production is used properly it can create masterpieces liike "4th of July".
I know that but what I mean is spending too much time in a studio and coming out with something that is "over produced." And 4th of July is probably my favorite Soundgarden song, but it sounded pretty impressive when played live at the Gorge when I saw them on 7/30/11.

And 4th of July is probably my favorite Soundgarden song, but it sounded pretty impressive when played live at the Gorge when I saw them on 7/30/11. Also, listen to some of their live stuff from the past year and a half--the "Nude Dragons" show at the Showbox had an absolutely killer rendition of Beyond the Wheel from Ultramega OK.
Unbelievable song. I can't buy it anywhere except the Basketball Diaries soundtrack. Dang it. Looks like I'm gonna have to give Leonardo DeCaprio ( my spelling is probably incorrect, I don't care) some money. I wish they could put this song, along with the many others , on that 'B Sides" release they have been promising us for years. :)
I built Eddie Vedder's house...It's a trip there are no strait lines and no corners in the rest of the house. Every thing is curved or rounded and he has action figures built into the walls! That was the coolest thing I ever did in my life and I wish you all could see the things that a rock star can afford to do....fuck cribs this is the coolest house ever built!!
this is so good, heard it first from basketball diaries
