I just started doing some voice overs from home for fun. I really like your setup and I can see that you are right for voice over work. Keep up the good work.
I've been watching some of your videos over the past year, and first of all nice work! I was wondering if you know of any good websites for finding free scripts?
Pre amp will be a good thing for you. Also a 2:1 to 4:1 compression ratio too will help, as you will be able to gain the output of the compressor slightly to raise the overall db of your track.
@Raindarsus I absolutely agree. For the youtube vids, because of the software I use, I upload these directly via my web cam....so the ratio and gain (more or less) are not available to me. I do use a ratio of 4:1 and I normalize to -3 db or so.
@acsherm3 ah, if you're using a program like vegas, or even windows movie maker, you could use the wave file you create in pro tools, cubase or which ever and then add it to the video of the web cam. You just need to make sure to sync it properly. This way you would be able to use your comp and preamp instead of the audio of the webcam. If you're not already doing so.
Hey that was very good! I actually can hear your voice on television advertisements and show previews. You have the tools and talent, keep working it! It'll work for you!
Well, i saw your first start video. Where you showed your mic, external soundcard and the new foam.
Have you done something to this recording? Eq etc?
Otherwise the foam you got now is to much, i think it kills the acoustical environment in your room. If you make your recording room to "soundproof" its going to kill/destroy you high regster in your voice. Thats making you sound tired and bored!
If you record in your hallway, then in your bathroom and then in your recordroom. You will se the dif
@mNystroom the issue with the quality of this recording relates more to my gain setting, distance from the mic, and crappy reading. (not to mention that youtube takes quite a bit away) The padding helps to absorb the sound of my voice bouncing around the small room. Soundproofing will only eliminate external noise enabling me to record without having the rumble of a truck in the recording. If you listen to the first and then the latest video...the difference in background noise is stunning
to all people watching, scroll down. its much better not watching him [just like a real commercial] like you dont see the announcer. if that make sense hahaha
Really good man. Way better than the guy the does most voice overs now for A&E or History. Keep it up though, your pretty good. Also, did that foam help reduce a lot of echo? I also have been setting up a home studio.
@rashaud352 The padding in the back is that memory foam stuff that you can buy at target or walmart for 20 bucks or so. Maybe 30. I can't remember for sure. I just stapled it to the walls. It works well for deadening the space but not for sound proofing. For high freq stuff it works well, but for trucks or harleys passing by ....ya just have to wait for them to go away.
@acsherm3 hey thanks a lot 4 the info bro. i'll go out and buy some this weekend. no it's not 4 soundproofing i just want my room to stop echoing when i go to record music. as 4 loud cars and trucks i live in an incredibly quiet neighborhood. buy the way that was incredibly good im referring to the video. though i was watching commercials for a second. but yeah im in a quiet neighborhood i just need the echoing to stop. thanks 4 the info though really helpful
@acsherm3 This weeks Coach session was a killer. Voice exercises and reading. My coach says you should be reading copy as if you were talking with one person I do need a lot of work but I am patient

@14JohnnyRed14 Hey thanks! Yep, the foam worked really well to deaden the room.
acsherm3 1 year ago
@acsherm3 No problem,i also purchased some foam and it helped deaden the room quite a bit. Seemed like the mic didn't pick up any background noise.
