When I was growing up I only knew Andre as a bald guy, like in his US Open final in 2005 against The Mighty Fed. I never knew until a couple years ago that he used to be fabio! Go Andre, you have an awesome spirit!
Christian? Bad Behavior,ATP Minister? F'ing Lame, Agassi= Tennis Legend.... & Brillant pitch man, So what about Christian values, Chang= never could win a grand slam vs pete,Courier or andre."Hey Michael ever play Davis Cup?". Nope. Why? b/c there's No pay cheque. Chang was in it for a pay day...Thanking' God' on t.v. after a match is retarded... No wonder nobody bought reebok pumps in the day, cause 'God' boy was selling them...
@datacipher: You obviously don't know anything about Agassi. Sure he made some mistakes in his life, who hasn't? I'm sure your not perfect. Andre has asked forgiveness for all of his mistakes and now he's a man of God, a wonderful father and husband and has given more back to the Las Vegas community than anyone else has or ever will, he is a great human being and a legend on the court.
No, it's you who obviously doesn't know anything about Agassi so save the rhetoric. As to Agassi being a "man of God", one would be much better served...if one needs a celebrity role-model to choose somebody like Michael Chang (who Agassi has constantly bashed (even making masturbation jokes about Chang's virginity) over the last couple decades). Agassi originally pretended to be "christian" in the late 80's in his first years on tour, he admits in his autobiography...
....that it was a chance encounter in a church that lead him to anti-establishment pastor John Parenti. Who's spiritual saying, but lack of behavioral regulations suited Andre much better than say...the ATP tour minister Fritz Glaus, who mentored Agassi...but only a year or two later Agassi screamed "fire Fritz!!!" to his entourage, walking off court after losing a match.
OF course, Andre made a great deal of money marketing his "christianity" in those days, it played well: rebel but safe....
....soon that fell by the wayside, as the constantly tanking, swearing, lying (by his own admission in his autobiography...in case you couldn't detect it at the time...though note: his autotbiography is full of distortions and omissions). So...we no longer heard about the "christianity", and certainly, as he admits in his autobiography, it was hardly a factor in his head or his lifestyle.
Is he a "christian" now? Well, he continues to behave badly, swears and makes crude jokes in public....
....takes cheap shots at people like Sampras, Becker, Chang, and others...(who DO not respond in kind)....well his current behavior certainly doesn't reflect well on any common conception of God.
Yes, he does hide behind the school/charity constantly. Like a politican...it's his new schtick.....and admittedly, I am sure he likes the good feeling he gets from doing it, and certainly he loves the praise and attention....certainly this is more constructive than his past behavior where he harmed..
...so many people....including the fans...with his no-show antics.
So, please save your rude accusations that I lack knowledge about Agassi. I most certainly know far more than you, and I'll be happy to debate you on any open forum. Please private message me if you wish to do so.
Youtube, with it's clunky comments, and very limited space is not suited to proper discourse on this subject.
