As much as I have respect for the original Focus RS I would take the Pepsi Challenge with my own Subaru Impreza STI around Knockhill Racing Circuit any day of the week.

By the way the new Focus RS is exceptional for a front wheel drive car and I would love one for xmas :-) but it will not beat a 4 wheel drive 300bhp Impreza or Evo round any track!

@ViperThreat If you turned a focus to RWD it would only be good at drifting as the wheel base is too short. Even FWD is a more sensible option and I'm not a fan of FWD i just think it's better than RWD if you have a small car. I would like to see a 4WD focus though!

Ill have to disagree, ive seen plenty of RWD foci that are very quick. Google the RS8 for example.

Ill also have to disagree with your FWD car as well.. I drive a SVT focus daily, and besides maybe a mazdaspeed3, thats about as good as FWD handling gets, and the problem is power application, i get into understeer easily if i throttle too hard, and the same can be said for all FWD cars. And while understeer is easier controled than oversteer, oversteer has far more potential

And as for your understeer nonsense there are plenty of FWD cars that barely have understeer, in fact they did very well on the mk2 focus RS. Why do you think the bmw 1 series is slower round a track than it's rivals aswell? I prefer RWD myself, but I can quite honestly tell you putting it on a hatchback is a silly idea. Imagine the winter lol! AWD is best.

Im not debating that 4wd is better bro, im just saying that rwd is definately better than fwd. Oh, and check your facts, manufacturers made cars FWD because its cheaper, not because of better performance.

Also, the focus is 103" wheelbase, the corvette is 105", the mustang is 107", the miata is 97", the gallardo is 100", the F430 is 103"; all of the above is available in RWD variants. The focus may be small, but its not THAT small.

Lets not even get into torque steer.

RWD isnt made on many cars because the production cost is quite a bit higher than FWD. And im agreeing that 4wd is best. Im just saying that if the focus were 4wd, or even rwd, it would be in much better standing vs the evo and the sti.

The STi has a heavier 4wd system to deal with. The RS is lighter, and the drive system is more direct. I wouldnt say it would nuke a subaru tho.

Yes, they are making "decent machines" but they do not make the Focus 3 door or 5 door in the states, only in Europe, France, and Mexico. In the states we only have the Sedan and coupe which are more "family" cars and they are very plain looking. Suck the Ford does not realized this, basically most of the "good" cars are never in the states. I'm excited about the RS too. I just hope Ford does not gut it if they do offer it to the North American market. As for the Mustang, if they would offer options like an proper independant rear end and a HiPo engine they could build a Mustang option package that could rival a M3. Then Ford would not have to worry so much about the RS cutting into Mustang sales margins. Then again they should build a AWD version of the RS as well. Ford could dip into their X-Type experience to do that.
