  • Did the makers of the Roleplaying game Fallout 3 take some of their inspiration for the look and sound of the game from Brazil, I would think so.

  • Sounds Hillarious.

  • who made that version of the song "Brazil" in the beginning?

  • liked the funnies and the dystopian society, dream sequences were too long and some action scenes were claustrophobic and confusing though the special effects for these were good, the repair men's suits filling up with sewage and exploding, the small car next to enormous trucks and the hectic offices were well done

  • What is Brazil? The most fucked up movie ever

  • @MrDjdecks noooooo, "Never say Never" is.

  • @DeepEye1994 lol yeh

  • @MrDjdecks Ok, speaking seriously I think that the most fucked up movies ever are "Eraserhead" and "Yellow Submarine".

  • @DeepEye1994 eraserhead wasnt that bad but ye yellow submarine was very strange

  • @MrDjdecks I'm not saying that Eraserhead is bad, but DAMN it's so fucking sick and creepy!!! Eraserhead makes Clockwork Orange look like a Disney movie!

  • @DeepEye1994 Yeh the scene were hes cuts the bandages of the baby thing and it shows all of its guts and then he stabs it and the other stuff comes out than scene made me feel sick btw clockwork orange really only has like 1 or two scenes that might be classed as disturbing but for me it didnt really disturb me much.

  • @MrDjdecks I really can't understand why people are so freaked out by Clockwork Orange. Once, they show on tv Clockwork Orange at 2 in the morning. EXTRA RED LIGHT. While they show Eraserhead at 8 of night. WHAT THE FUCK?!

People who suggest that Clockwork Orange is a disturbing movie are IGNORANTS. I actually think that CO is a really intellinget movie. That makes me think. about freedom, humanity and how the world works. Brazil too.

  • @DeepEye1994 mayby its becuase eraserhead is black and white and clockwork orange isnt

  • @MrDjdecks FUCK YOU FCC!!!

  • @DeepEye1994 FCC?

  • @MrDjdecks Search the family guy song of FCC. You will understand who they are...

  • @DeepEye1994 nevermind looked it up on the internet so yeh fcc suck

  • What song is playing at the beginning of the video? I know it's Brazil of course, but it's a different version?

  • Why is this film great? Because it taps into peoples dreams, hopes & fears. It shows how, even in a dystopian state, people matter.

  • I'd like to point out Michael Palin is GORGEOUS.

  • @ThingsWeSaidToday

    he sure is )))

  • Absolutely thrilling, absolutely terrifying, absolutely relevant.

  • I like how it illustrates the point that the only real power the State has over you is how bizarre it has to become to keep you in fear of it. The guy mentality walked away at the end leaving the evils of the State behind him. Freedom is always there for the taking. The State has no control over any of us. Never had, never will.

  • It's called Brazil because this character Sam loves the song and it makes him dream of some wonderful place far away...so yeah it's like his little dream in a big nightmare...

  • I still don't know why so many people consider it to be the best movie ever. It made sense, (sort of) but what makes it so amazing? Rather than just thumbs downing and spamming this, could someone give me a straight answer?

  • @B1o2e3rg4e5r6 I personally think what makes this so brilliant is Terry Gilliam's frightening vision. You can not confuse a "Gilliam" movie with anything else. The look and feel of it to me is terrifying. At least it was when I saw it originally when I was 10 years old. It seems a little silly now, but it is 25 years old.

  • @B1o2e3rg4e5r6

    • Because it gets more relevant as time goes by.

    • Because there’s more truth contained in it than a documentary (about bureaucracy, vanity, power...)

    • Because it effectively demonstrates the conflict between systems and the fallibility of the humans who devise and run them.

    • Because it is fun to play ‘spot the celeb.’

    • Because it shows that technological ‘progress’ is not always beneficial (just look what we’re doing to the planet.)

    • Because it’s funny.

  • @B1o2e3rg4e5r6

    • Because it works on many levels.

    • Because it’s about people and our hopes and dreams rather than just explosions and big effects.

    • Because it uses really strong images that remain locked in your imagination.

    • Because sometimes it’s difficult to fit in.

    • Because it’s really unsettling to see lovely Michael Palin as a convincing villain.

    • Because sometimes things just aren’t OK and it’s a relief to stop pretending for a while.

Hope that gives you something to go on ... :)

  • actually, according to the authors, the 54th greatest movie of all time.

  • At :30 not michael palin...hehe.

  • Brazil was inspired generously by a short film made at the National Film School in England in 1980 called "Dogma" by Peter Green/Henson and Clare Williams.

  • @Maestr077 Wow, you didn't like it. Not everyone's cup of tea I guess.

98% on 'rotten tomatoes', 8/10 on 'IMDb', voted among one of the 100 best films ever made by 'the times', one of the 50 best films by 'channel 4'....I'm not along in thinking this is one of the greatest movies ever.

  • My complications had some complications

  • @francoviski2 The fuck are you on about? Have you even watched the movie? It has nothing to do with Brazil the country.

  • @qloudz That's because you have in mind that Brazil is only a country of beaches, carnival and mulatto. However, this fictional film portrayed life as well was in Brazil in recent years of fascist dictatorship in the 70s and 80s . Brazil was a police state that constantly surveys the Brazilians, including its white elites. The terrorist attacks also existed in Brazil at this time.

  • I think Brazil is about not letting your true self be constricted by material everyday things, in a society where the course of our lives is determined by numbers and paperwork.

  • ok im brazilian and.... wtf is this ?

  • @jurgsf2 A cult classic movie.

  • @jurgsf2 its called brazil because they couldnt think of a name for it, but the theme song is brasil or some shit, so they named it brazil... its a great movie.

  • que porra é essa?

  • to decide who was the terrorist? it's a genuine ideas from the movie. Terry is a genius.

  • Amazing, best movie i've ever seen, utopia and distopia in the same place, and as the years are passing,i think that this would be our future,i don t want to. but...central services.,(S.P. from greece)

  • Me too far and away the best movie I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

  • @doctorpapaya

What about United States during the Bush years?

"How many terrorists do you actually know?"

  • @doctorpapaya:

As opposed to today (in the United States)?

No insurance, no money, no surgery!

    You sir, are an idiot...

  • Bull shit this video.Brazil is what I've said 11 months ago

  • I love this movie... Terry Gilliam is one of my favourite directors. Films like this one, "The Fisher King", "12 Monkeys" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" put him in one line with Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch for me. GREAT!!!

  • the greatest movie ever made!

  • @symes007 i agree, the best movie i've ever seen,till now

  • @symes007 Agreed future past here & now, powerfull film indeed

  • Is it wrong to say I really don't like this version of the song?

  • Terry Gilliam is a genius, he sees what nobody else can or is wiling to see.

  • what is this? i thought i was looking at an informational documentary and guide to the COUNTRY of Brazil

  • *sigh*. I'd love to see this uploaded on youtube if it wasn't for all the copyright nonsense.

  • Brazil is my country.I love Brazil.

  • HOT WATER BURN BABY!!! SERIOUSLY!!

  • This is what the film 1984 would be like if it had jokes in it.

  • @fascistamericadotnet haha nice one! Humour has the capacity of improving virtually everything! :)

  • thank you for posting this.

  • Don't listen to him.

    The rest

  • isn't sao paulo where those super healthy mushrooms grow naturally and people don't get sick, or that is bullshit?

  • It's only a matter of time until the world of brazil becomes a reality. Technology is advancing faster than society knows what to do with it. As this newfangled technology grows so does the required bureaucracy. We'll be filling section 16's before we know it...

  • Cripes, I'd better get me a 27B-6!

  • You sir are thinking of the 27B/6. Twenty-seven-B-stroke-six. XD

Yeah, I better get mine too.

I'll be back you bloody bastard!

  • Sorry, I'm a bit of a stickler for paperwork. :P

  • Why use the name of Brazil and not a ficticious name? This people do not know

anything about Brazil (the country, of course) and they have no rigth of use this references name and music to construct a fiction. Why not Zaire or Angola? Or Pakistan? Because this would be the same lack of respect.

  • People are not gonna forget the country or disrespect it just because ONE movie is called brazil.

  • It's a reference to the song, which is a reference to the country. Among other things, the movie is about escapism, and Brazil is a place to escape to.

It's neither insulting nor flattering to the country. If you take offense, it's due to your own misperception.

  • This movie isnt a reference to the country. Besides they use the music, "Brazil" is a old mythical land in a traditional Irish legendy. I believe, Thomas Morus used this legend to do his "Utopia". BTW, this name was give to the wood portugueses found here and they used this name to the new land.

  • no,

the word brazil is from the wood, pau brasil. of course legend and myth are part of great discoveries.

our country is mix between fantasies and reality. then this movie is right!

    antonio

  • @paduaprs yes you are right , the name brazil comes from the red-brown tree, but it also was said the utopia word is also close to an alternative meaning of brazil, spiros from greece(far away from your place)...

  • this mother fucker thinks he's funny, he's a fuckin' psychopathic murdering bitch.

  • the script was very well done but actors were terribly wrong except our gratest lady katharine hellmond.

  • yeah of course....robert de niro was wrong! lol!

  • Instead, Sam refused the world that refused him. He turned his dreams into his reality and forgot everything in between. And so Sam found his happy end, and so the world lost Sam.

Brazil has made a very big impact on my view of myself through Sam Lowry. Even so, I feel as though I have yet to realise the full extent of this connection between Sam and I.

  • Eventually Sam's dangerous journey for happiness turns the world around him into a nightmare. His world has no need for dreamers, philosophers, idealists, or as they call them "terrorists". Nevertheless Sam pushes forward, determined to reach his happy ending. Eventually Sam finds himself cornered by impossible odds. All hope in reality is gone, his dreams there are gone. But, after tasting the sweetness of such dreams, Sam refuses to return to square one.

  • Unfortunately for Sam, a world ruled by bureaucracy and security has no need for dreamers. In fact, such things are dangerous to the desired stability of such a system. However, Sam is not alone in his fight against this imperialsm. Harry Tuttle, a man identified as a terrorist, lends Sam a helping hand in his time of need. "We're all in this together, kid." he assures Sam, patting his friend on the shoulder as he switches the hose of the Central Cervices repair men's oxygen for the sewage pipe.

  • Sam's life takes its true turning point when the idol of his dreams suddenly shows up in his realistic purgatory. The changes in Sam's outlook on life change in a heartbeat. Finally he knows what he wants! He's dreamed about it all his life! Immediately Sam sets after a goal that was previously non-existant; a goal that would push him to whatever means and ends were demanded of him to reach it, no matter the cost.

  • It seemed from the beginning that Sam was doomed to dream forever, for the reality placed before him was about as substantial as the thinnest of air and about as lively as the colour grey. All Sam ever did in this world was what he was expected to do: work, eat, sleep, repeat; he wanted nothing else from it. No promotions, no executive support, no special treatment of any kind. He lived to sleep at night, where his dreams truly brought him to life.

  • is it a dream to know damn well your up against a monster or monsterous controlled chaos

  • I'd like to offer my own take on the character of Sam Lowry as I feel it is very close to my own.

Sam Lowry is a fine example of what I call the "Nowhere man"; he has no ambition, no sense of purpose, no meaning in life to fight for or to cherish. These things only ever came to him within his dreams; a world where he was master of himself and servant to no one. Nevertheless, these were only dreams.

  • Price HAS to be a nerd in real life to perform a nerd with such perfection.

As a matter of fact, ALL characters in the movie where outstanding.

Soundtract surpassed all expectacies and is excellent.

Films like this are hard to come by!

  • the soundtrack is perfect...

Watercolor of Brazil, a master piece from Ary Barroso

  • Great surreal Gilliam classic !!

  • This movie touched me in ways a catholic priest could never dream of (a little double entendre their, nudge nudge wink wink). I love the joke "please confess. holding out could damage your credit rating." The heaviness of the scene kept me from laughing out loud but I chuckled a bit inside. That scene displays the perfect balance between humor and drama that this movie strikes.

  • Sam Lowry is an indifferent jerk, like the rest. Unlike most of the rest, he's smart enough to see the b.s., but he doesn't care. He's more interested in getting with a nice peice of ass in a nice little house. If he can get that, the rest doesn't matter all that much. He's the ultimate nerd. His concerns center around being horny and lonely for the right girl, and living in a nightmare doesn't distract him from that. Self absorbed tech.

  • Hes not indifferent, hes just a simple man who wants to live a simple life. All around him are people obsessed with details and politics, while he just wants to fly and be with the girl of his dreams. He shows remorse when he hurts others (the car chase scene) and disillusionment when learns of the tuttle/buttle mistake, one of the driving forces behind him turning his back on the ministry, the other being, as you said, the girl. He was conditioned to an extent but in no way indifferent

  • No, I think the point of his character is that he's not really any different from anyone. With few exceptions (the plastic surgeon) everyone else can see the absurdity around them and it makes them as mixed up on the inside as Sam. Just look at Sam's boss! But they're helpless. They don't know what to do except try to capture a little something they think will make them happy. For Sam, it's his dream girl. For others it's promotion. Most of us are going through life like that.

  • My take was vindicated when I read in Starlog back in the 80's (yeah, I'm old) an interview where he said that the movie was basically about a guy who dreams too much. That's what makes the big graffiti, "REALITY" in that one scene so funny. Every now and then he stops and notices "reality", looks at it funny for a moment and then continues on with his dream life. Just like most of us.

  • if you know terry gilliam films well, his protagonists are always far from perfect. So Sam cant be that kind of "hes just a simple man who wants to live a simple life". Gilliam explained before that its about responsibility. This movie is not about hero vs reality.

  • WOW! Good god, I loved this film, and thanks so much for the post. Can't wait to get it on dvd

  • yeah, why didnt he get more screen time :(

    thanks for putting up :D

  • Michael Palin was brilliant in it but he could've had more scenes. He's a really friendly man, I should know, I met him!!!!!!!
