My mom tried to raise me Catholic. I went to church with her until I was 15 and then I boycotted it. Haven't been back since and can't say I miss even one second of it! Well great song. when I was a kid there was no religion at school what so ever, then when I entered high school and my home town Minneapolis was invaded by Muslims, schools and employers everywhere started bending the rules just for them. I am Catholic but I still believe there shouldn't be any religious acts in the schools, work place and business environment. What I really find offensive is that you pose that as a serious question in direct conflict of scientific knowledge. The question of god has yet to be substantiated, therefore, any question of it's truth is healthy skepticism. Science is not brainwashing, it's asking if what you're looking at is supported by evidence and then rejecting it if it's not. Religion has yet to put forward any sort of creditable evidence. BTW stop comparing evolution to the big bang theory, they are NOT the same.

My mom tried to raise me Catholic. I went to church with her until I was 15 and then I boycotted it. Haven't been back since and can't say I miss even one second of it! The only reason "in god we trust" was added to our currency in 1956, was to purposely create a different view than our worst enemy of the time...the athiest communists. and to elaborate my original reply since you obviously didn't understand it: the notion of "god" sacrificing himself to himself(a pointless gesture in itself), in order to prevent himself from sending us all to hell for committing sins as a result of the way in which he created us and which he was fully aware we were going to commit anyway, is the definition of meaningless. a symbolic and dramatic performance maximized for guilt potential.

The bible is the sole indicator of the existence of Christ as a real living being, and given the glaring inaccuracies, inconsistencies, blatant falsehoods and highly questionable origin of that book, it could in no way whatsoever be seriously considered as "proof" of anything.

Outside of the gospels, the number of documents written during his lifetime which mention Jesus: ZERO. Face facts, everything about Jesus Christ corresponds exactly with the worldwide Mythic Hero Archetype. You can no more seriously consider Jesus to have been real, regular man or otherwise, then you could Hercules or Mithra. Further more, not one single piece of tanglible "evidence" for the true existence of Christ has ever been proven authentic.

But where does your empathy and compassion come from? Do you get your morals from your conscience and soul? Because that is the Christian belief of the Holy Spirit. And most Christians don't do good to others based on a fear of hell, we do it as a pennance for our sins and to help improve the lives of others. Were you born an atheist or a Christian?

look up the definition of empathy, it's informed by your own negative experiences, hence compassion. true morality is born of empathy, not obligatory servitude. your explanation of christian morality amounts to no more than paying off a make believe debt, and is typically empty and self serving. i was born an atheist, and so were you. your religious belief was taught to you, and no amount of denial or claims of "faith" will change that fact.

i agree with that in we get empathy from experiences, but the difference is Christians have a reason to actually go out and help others rather than simply having pity for the marginalized. Christian morality, doing good to others, is self serving? think how illogical that statement you made is. true, i was brought up with that belief, but there are plenty of people who were brought up as atheists that converted to Christianity, so your claims are empty in that regard

i did look up empathy and i understand what it means, but the main point i'm trying to get across is that a country founded on the freedom of religion is morally better than a country without religion. And not everyone has true empathy for others, therefore if people have an actual reward in doing good, such as heaven in addition to empathy, they are more likely to have good morals. and i never made insinuations of violence against atheists, everyone has the right to believe what they want
