Uhh...atyy. For me parang the flow that your flowing is Oregon, which was the first type of debate invented. Since you have the interpellation. Wala lng po ata is the rebutal.
Uhhm, according to our teacher in argumentation and debate class, majority of the universities in manila uses Parliamentary type of debate kc it helps the speakers be more expressive and they become more substantial. In Oregon kc, you cannot express your feelings properly.
Hi Carlily! Thank you for all your comments. Personally, I am no fan of the Parliamentary Debate format which they use in the All Asian Debate Championship, the Asian Universities Debate Championship (AUDC) & many other competitions. Said format requires a speaker to entertain only 2 to 3 POI (depending on the competition rules) but there is no real & substantial interaction between the speakers. In effect, it becomes more of a speech delivery contest rather than debate in the real sense.
hmmmm,...d po ba there are various types of parliamentary debates?..uhhm, aside from the Asian parliamentary type, there are also British, American, African at dami pang iba. i think most likely what is being used commonly nowadays ay yung British parliamentary. its compose of 4 teams and four 4 judges. we applied it sa college namin and eventualy mas gumaling ung debaters namin. we crashed the other universities kc gamit nla old debate types...
As previously mentioned, the parliamentary debate format (in all its known variants) is not a good debate format. In my personal opinion, it's the most boring debate format. There is no point in copying it. That's why, we always try to innovate by introducing new formats.
The Oregon-Oxford format was not the first type of debate invented. There had been a lot of different formats even before the Oregon-Oxford was popularized in the US.
The format we implemented in I-Debate is a mix of many formats. Forgive me but this format was intended for a TV show and therefore, more than anything else, it seeks to be lively & interesting.
We wanted to remove many of the formalities of usual contest debates, like we implemented short opening speeches of only 2 minutes each & the exchanges in the interpellation round were governed by a 20-second timer, which means that the speakers, whether you are asking a question or answering one, you are only allowed 20 seconds & therefore you have to do it fast. However, our rules allow one speaker to make a "steal" & he therefore gets the 20-second privilege.
As to reading of speeches, of course it is a minus factor. Judges are instructed to take that into consideration in making their vote for the winning team & speakers.
Your observation is also correct that we removed the rebuttal portion. Instead, we introduced a "Free Debate" round where anything goes "no holds barred."
But in the end, lousy speakers will always be lousy even in a good debate format & great speakers will always be great even in a lousy debate format. :-)
Fascinating debate. Good topic and good content. I suggest the debaters should learn to argue with a little bit more grace... kaunting hinahon lang mga iha. You sound like you're in the wet market selling fish. However...its still a good debate.
Actually, we invited all private high schools in Bacolod and some select public schools, but only 5 schools registered. Other schools said they don't have argumentation and debate programs and will watch and observe first before joining in the coming years.
may nagsammpalan naba sa pag debate na toh hahahha sino ba nag uupload nito kuya meron po ba kaung mga video debate ng taga UP diliman hanap me di ako makakita hehe wala pala kau sa manila negros.. ang layo meron bang ganyan d2 sa manila??
Hahaha... wala pa namang sampalang naganap! No, this kind of debating is unique to I-Debate, which is a cable-TV show in Bacolod City that is aired live every Wednesday over SkyCable Sunshine Channel 14 Bacolod.
I-Debate follows a new debate format that encourages SPAR or SPontaneous ARgumentation, the natural way of debating. It does not use the Parliamentary Debate format which is used in many collegiate debates in Manila because we find it boring and not real argumentation.
We believe that the I-Debate format is the most exciting and the best format in terms of bringing out and developing the natural argumentation skills and talents of students.
About Jeanjaquet's analogy in regards with the lion, it may not eat the monkey but it will certainly kill it eventhough the lion is full. If Uno-R have responded in that way they would have won!

i notice that the debaters ask question after questions they barely answer questions. some of the facts are wrong.

I said UNO-R would have won because SSA's format can be sum up on that analogy. Therefore, UNO-R would have gain big points out of it.
Also can you pls let other schools join too!
