My daughter is allergic to the sun too! She has a condition called EPP or Porphyria. Her video is under "Mandie Dawson" on YouTube. Would love to share stories with you so our children can know that their are more people like them out there!!!
i'm sure he didn't know about his condition but just laghing at a kid is just mean because he could make him feel bad about his condition and then hve depression
I BET WHEN HE GETS OLDER... Night clubs will be his thing than a playground lol........ also will have a job that is for night shifts like my mom does being a nurse
@lilswaggaboi123 No. Like any allergy you can either be born with it or it "develops" over time. The human body is constantly changing cells and internal systems vary. This is especially true for the immune systems which adapt and change a lot - you can be born with an allergy or develop it later and sometimes even a severe allergy can just go away on its own.
I understand just how this little boy feels, I’m allergic to the sun at 22 and have been for 3yrs i have to cover up just as much as this little guy does, and many don't understand or care either this he is incredible it feels fantastic that I’m not the only one, anyone has any more of these vid or info please let me know- doctor after doctor I know how that feels.
i mean i have albinism.. and i swore albinism was horrible.. then i see brave kids/adults living like this and it kinda.. makes me realize that there are more important things out there...
hi jennifer. i also have the allergy and its been pretty terrible. i never had as a young kid but around late grade school years it started getting a little bit worse every year. now i cant stand out side for more than 10-15 seconds without bursting in rash. the countless nights i would try to sleep with horrible itches.
. i seem to have a mix or allergies to the sun and soaps and detergents and other things. its a constant battle to stay ahead of it all.im suffering through the worst one at this moment,. ive had this full body rash for a whole week now. missed work cause of it. i wear regular clothes outside but lots of sunscreen the strongest ones i can find and thats how i get by.
. it depresses me to hear there is no cure. what is this support group you mentioned? hope for yours and your sons sake he will get less reaction as he gets older
@jerrydinoballs its called Sun1. I highly recommend it as they have been able to assist with ideas for covering up and other types of soutions that the doctors don't always think of or don't know about since these types of problems are so rare.
@rugbyking32 Thanks for sharing. Its great to hear that there are some with these allergies that are able to live a normal life. The are still trying to find something that will help Kevin gain at least a little more time in the sun.
@roda2007 This is Kevin's mom - A lighter version of the suit would be great, but unfotunately the sunsuit is the lightest one we have yet found. Its basically a full body rash guard, so it doesn't breathe well. Anything lighter we've tried so far doesn't have enough protection. In the winter though when its cold enough, we do wear regular clothes over it.
Dude My Friends Little Sisters allergic to the fun to and she cant affford any of those speical clothes and she never goes out side It makes me wanna cry. Please help Pray for her her name is Sara LaPlante her facebook name is Sara Rodent please pray for her if u want look her up on facebook u can go see her condition.
@toothuggish Hello there! This is Jennifer, Kevin's mom. There is actually a support group for people who suffer from severe sun sensitive conditions. I recommend joining there. They have been a huge help to us in finding ways to make things work. I'll send a note to your friend's facebook page.
For now, Kevin is happy and healthy and ready to save the world. He doesn’t see himself as different and his mom just wants him to be happy.
She says relocating to a place where there is less light is an option but hard for a single mom who already lives with family. When he is older and he doesn’t feel like a superhero wearing his protective gear, they may do it. But even with clouds and rain, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have to cover up.
Board Certified Dermatologist David Sire says they don’t really know what causes Kevin’s condition, polymorphous light eruption.
But there are ways to try to control it – sun protective clothing, sunscreen, a technique called skin hardening where he is slowly exposed to light and medications. He says it may get better, but there is no cure. The condition is five times more common in children than adults.
Sunshine is the usual problem Kevin has to deal with but on the day we visited him, he was on cloud 9 because it was pouring down rain. He thought that meant regular clothes and lots of outdoor play time.
Unfortunately, the UV index was too high.
“It’s hard for kids to understand, they see him and he clearly looks different,” his mom says.
Kevin’s mom Jennifer noticed a problem a year and a half ago. During the summer months he had rashes and painful blisters. She thought he was allergic to sun block so switched to brands, but it didn’t end.
Nine months ago, after just 20 minutes on the playground at daycare wearing a short-sleeved shirt, he broke out in hives.
If you ask any 4-year-old boy what they want to be when they grow up, superhero may be top of the list. Kevin Risner is no different.
His mom says, “He’s absolutely obsessed with Batman.”
Except, the “save the world” outfit he puts on inside is to protect him from the world outside. Kevin is allergic to the sun. The outfit is UV protective clothing and headgear.
