Quick fixes never work, you have to get the Big Picture!....she's banking we're undereducated enough to be satisfied with a savings of $18.98 (rounded off with local gas price), just for this summer!!!???
Well, let's get realistic. ASSUMING the oil companies don't jack up prices higher anyway in response to removing the gas tax.. A typical driver might save 20 bucks over the summer. This comes at the expense of thousands of necessary construction jobs that are financed by the gas tax. In turn, EVERYONE will have to be charged more in income and/or sales taxes to finance those construction jobs, thus nullifying the benefits of the gas tax holiday. This is moronic economic policy.

I cannot approve this message. Obama did not say that we all should pay $8B each although she made it sound like it.
Also how is she going to multiply that amount by 2 so that the oil company can both pay for that renewable energy thingy and the road construction thingy. It is one or the other I though.

99.9% of economists think this is a bad idea, Hillary is just doing it to score some quick political points without regard for the long term ramifacations (not the first time she has done so). 1.) Oil is a finite, nonrenewable resource.
2.) Hillary will probably invade Iran further destabilizing the middle east causes OPEC to dramatically raise the price of oil.

If you think getting rid of gas tax is going to solve the problem then you're horribly wrong
Even if you get rid of gas tax, gasoline will still cost a lot, and we'll still run out of it.
No one seems to want to acknowledge that maybe the reason gas cost so much isn't because the companies are greedy, maybe it's because we're running out of gas.
I know it sounds like a radical concept but seriously like Ross Perot said, "gridlock government were everybody blames everybody else"
The Dems have used almost all of their congressional energy trying to undo damage done the last 7 years. Understandably, only a minority of Repubs are helping them with this. Meanwhile, our energy policy has gone nowhere. Biofuels are only a stall and they aren't helping the global food crisis at all. Are we really going to have to wait until January before our energy policies can catch up with the rest of the "developed" world?
Evil Hillary is again trying to fool the people of Indiana and NC I hope they will outsmart her this time unlike the stupid folks of PA and Ohio who are old hags and low class workers whom Hillaryshit can fool easily
Speaking of math -- the Obama campaign rolls out another former DNC chairman's endorsement on Friday: Paul Kirk, a superdelegate who led the party from 1985-1989, is coming out for Obama -- a day after Andrew's switch, an Obama campaign official tells The Note. (And don't count on that being it for the day, as the dribble continues.)
HELLARY ROTTEN CLINturd - PULL OUT of the race and quit destroying the Democratics with your selfish and arrogant delusions that you will win!!You COW!!!!!!!!
WOW - she cant bring the prices "down for good" because the gas price isnt up to begin with, its the extreme inflation that is causing our money to become less effective. if she wants to bring the prices down then she needs to talk about inflation which means she needs to start talking about attacking the federal reserve for intentionally inflating our money so that they can make a profit!
Ambientdiscord: It's really nice to see that someone REALLY gets what the whole oil/gas thing is about! Keep educating people! The Clinton Chronicles (DVD)- very enlightening too!
I'm not Pro-Obama, Pro-Hillary,or Pro-McCain. They don't address the core of this country's ills. They just aren't willing to admit the truth you have stated since they are all part of the problem that has been brewing for years.
what is disturbing is the difficulty in finding out what the truth is because the MSM is either constantly lying or just saturating the news with complete garbage about paris hilton or oj simpson or Obama going bowling.
mike gravel and ron paul are the ones that really made me realize how bad the MSM was. veracifier is pretty good at avoiding the garbage though :P
Ambient:Yep. I never realized how much blatant propaganda was fed over the MSM.Our "freedom of choice" pertaining to candidates is totally taken from us unless you're really willing to dig deep and research yourself- and not from our media as most people do when they "research".Also, one can't get emotionally involved when researching- let the facts lead you where they may, rather than just cherry picking facts for what you hope will fit your emotional need. Most people are hindered by that one.
heh, the way you describe it, i picture a bunch of "chris crocker" characters screaming "leave hillary alone! she just wants to be our experienced leader! why! why!"
mccain and hillary are idiots, its so obvious they are just using the gas tax to try to win the votes of average tax obsessed jackoffs in middle america by shouting "tax cut!" for no real reason. gas prices are still rising, it wont help.
to bad the bitches husband vetoed every oil drilling opportunity during 1990's thats why we atr paying these prices today!!! Dems and thier enviromentalist wacko groups who support them is why we are paying high prices today! drill in Anwar and the Dakota's!!! stop voting for liberal dems and you wont be payinying 3.75 a gallon.
On the margin. The oil industry urges people to look beyond its profits to its profit margin: about 7.6 percent of revenues late last year. That's not much higher than the 5.8 percent profit margin for all U.S. manufacturing, and if you exclude the financially troubled auto industry from that analysis, the oil industry actually appears less profitable than most manufacturers, which were earning 9.2 cents on every dollar of sales.
What Hilary forgets, as much as I hate to admit, is that big corporations have a LOT of expenses to pay off with sales revenue that really shortens the actual profit. Profit is NOT simply sales but the net amount left after you pay all the expenses. We confuse profit with sales and think that a tax like this will have no effect, but it could have a disastrous effect.
If the Congress chose to tax only some portion of the gas market--for example, old gas discovered before April 1977--and to allow other types of gas to go untaxed, a complete passthrough of the tax to consumers could be averted. In this case, the tax on old gas would curtail a pipeline firm's ability to minimize the overall price of gas charged to its customers by mixing less expensive old gas with higher-cost gas.
The Congressional Research Service has analysed that the windfall profit tax brought in $80 billion in extra revenues for the United States government, which was far less than the projected $393 billion. Also, domestic oil production by oil producers was said to be lowered.
The total savings for the consumer is estimated at $30...
You can't fix a severed arm with a fucking band-aid. Obama wants to make it permanent by regulating big oils insane profit levels, but Shillary knows she can't b/c they are big contributors to her campaign. Since she AND McCain both agree on this, it really doesn't hurt big oil. Obama wants to make big oil permanently accountable, Hillary/McCain want a fake showy display in buying us off for $30 instead of fixing the problem.
where are the hillary supporters defending this stupidity? they continue to prey on obama for his word choices but never fault their candidate for the lies and stupidity that actually comes out of her mouth.
I loved Bloomberg coming out and calling this retarded. The oil companies will just pass it along in the cost of gas folks, that's how it works. We'll tax their windfall profits, but they won't take a hit, the price to consumers will simply go up. Oil companies hold the collective nutsack of this nation, and they are squeezing. Hillary disgusts me on such a profound level with her lowest common denominator tactics. Please Indiana vote for the guy that talks to us like we are adults. BARF!
People get the government they deserve. Clinton is showing to be a true pandering politician. She is anything but stupid though. Apparently she thinks this will get her more votes in the end. I hope voters will not fall for it, but I am not totally comfortable. The facts that all experts think this is a stupid proposal will actually help her convince some voters that she is with them, not with the "elitists". "Damn the analysis. I am the decider" Never thought she would resemble Dubya so much...
GREAT. Let us take 30 cents off of the cost of gas so that the gas companies inflate the price 40 cents. Yay let's do it. FUCK YOU HILARY quit trying to make up quick excuses and actually do something progressive. Quit trying to force these companies to do soemthing that is bound (and analyzed by economists) to backfire you stupid lying bitch.
Saudi Arabia might have the right idea. They don't even let their women drive. See what happens. U let em drive now they think they can knock off the price 63 cents a gallon... decreasing supply...spurring demand... therefore raising the price even higher once this holiday bullsh*t is over! I think they're laughing at how stupid some of us are!
If Hillary Clinton were not a socialist in sick-disguise, then an intelligent person in her place with a set of ethics set in gold could campaign for honest change. This suspension of gas tax can be nothing more than money laundering albeit on a minor level compared to the kind of habits one could imagine in the political arena.
Hillary wouldn't "make" oil companies do anything. They're the ones running the world right now, not her. What a load of garbage this advertisement is. I can't wait to see what's next on the menu to be fed to us, because this one tastes like shit.
So what? That means Europe has some money in their country. Meanwhile, even if some of us ride bikes to work, we'd still get raped by credit card debt(Which is made for you TO be in debt) Bankruptcy, Taxes AND no damn healthcare, Face it people America is the pits. This bitch has been going downhill ever since well...forever actually, but more recently in bushes term.
Why is everyone so against this idea? Barack voted to remove gas taxes in Illinois before. Now it's a bad idea? When it costs $80 to fill your tank and half of that can go to buying something else it's worth a shot.
Because I would rather pay 7 cents a gallon more so my highways don't go down the crapper?
And she knows this won't get passed, she knows her crap about taxing the oil companies won't happen. It's all a game so we can see the great pandering white hope will save us
Half of that? The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon! Assume your $80 is at $3.50/gallon. That makes 22.85 gallons. Multiply that by 18.4 cents and you get a savings of...
$4.21. 5.25%. NOT HALF!
Not to mention the fact that most economists predict that prices would go up anyway to account for the higher demand brought on by this 'savings'.
Save families $8 Billion?? Yeah, right. Who came up with that number? Who calculated it, if that was even a calculation and not something her campaign just pulled out of their asses? I highly doubt suspending a tax of about 18 or 19 cents is gonna save voters $8 Billion immediately. Maybe in 5 or 10 years but not right away like she'd want. Analysts say you'd only save about $30 in the long run from this gas tax suspension, so it's useless. And then when gas prices rise even further...
Hard to decide?? Well, let's look at it closely: You can't get to the store without a tank of gas, so that's the only way you're gonna get the milk unless the store's nearby. Decided yet?
Problem is she's got very little chance of actually getting the bill that cause the oil companies to pay passed...so this tax"break" just means more profit for the oil companies, no savings for the public, and less money to fix our transportation infrastructure
Hillary and McCain are feeding the American people a load of bullshit that will actually hurt them, not help them
I'm a STRONG Hillary supporter, but this whole TAX BREAK, is fishy. Are those OIL Companies really gonna pay. I hope so, cause otherwise our road will just get worse and we'll still be paying outragous 4+++ dollars a gallon.
Enjoy that $30 when the bridge you're driving over falls down because the states didn't receive federal funds for highway infrastructure that comes from the gas tax
That is the problem with these people, they take the bad and make it worse by putting a few Band-Aids on the problem and let it ride, none of these people will address the real root problem which is the monetary policy. Until that is addressed by these people ( besides Ron Paul ) things will never change.
For Big Oil to not react with a raise in price greater than what we would get from the tax you would have to assume that Big Oil Companies were honest.
Can any one tell me when any one that ran for this office has ever keep there word ? We are a republic but govern by Democratic government , we have Common Law Rights but every court is a Uniform Commercial Code Court. Can any one tell me why any one would pay 20 to 60 million for a office that pays only 400,000 a year. Has any one asked what is the World Bank, or why we have not had a new gas refinery in over 60 years. Wake Up America
While our bridges collapse and roads fall apart, let's put thousands more out of work whose daily lives count on that tax to sustain their families. There she goes again, insulting the intelligence of ALL Americans. You can't just put a band-aid on a failing economy and call it all better.
I'd much rather have the Clintons back in oval office than some others and their clan of nouveau-elitists! Watch. Once Obama gets into the White House he will kiss and make-up with the Rev. This whole resurfacing of Wright has been a carefully orchestrated concerto by the Obama campaign to try and create sympathy for poor Barack. What all of a sudden he decided he wanted to set the record straight?! Next he'll be on Oprah. Gimme a break, people and wake up! Thank-you, New York!
UR right! Hill is the best candidate, lets look at her campaign for example. She is 15 million in debt and had to fire more of her staff than any other candidate. I think her campaign should be an example of how she would run the country, and since her campaign has been run with amazing integrity, leadership, and great money management, I deem Hillary the best candidate...NOT! LOL!
How can she run the country if she can't even manage her own campaign? wind75, you really are an idiot :)
Hey IDIOT! Just to add, Hillary won 15 out of 45 states, you call that winning? Just because she won the states that "matter"???? You my friend are the one that is brainwashed
Hillary had a 30% lead in Pennsylvania in mid march, 2-3 weeks before voting in Pennsylvania Hillary had a 20% lead and by voting day hillary won by a margin of 10%.
Pennsylvania was a victory for Clinton in the same sense that the Battle for Bunker Hill was a victory for the British.
OMG, I can't believe you said that. I guess you must have been off the planet during the 90's. Must be real nice being perfect. Anyway, whatever. Peace!
Nope i was hear during the 90's, dont know if you remember that she wasnt actually the president during the 90s? yet she still managed along with her husband to waste a huge portion of the time in office. By wastage i mean trying to create a flawed health care system which introduced massive resentment towards her and people tried there hardest to stop anything she did
Well, I was "hear" too and I think you need to revisit your fact sheet. The Budget was balance and the deficit was almost none-existent. Unemployment was done and more families made it out of poverty then ever before. What are you kidding me? What did they forget to drop by your place for Christmas? Please. No one said they were perfect. Is Obama perfect? At least we know all about the Clintons..they love their legacy too much to fuck it up! think about it.
What a lying bitch. That's so not true. She is beloved by Big Oil--she's not going to tax them; and furthermore, it's our responsibility to pay for our roads. We can't just strong-arm private business and say you have to pay for our crap.

And one more thing, all these countries in the Middle East can boss us around now because they got the oil and we need it.
We can make our own ethanol so once we switch, we don't have to take any shit from Saudi Arabia anymore.
Not only that, it'd create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the US with all the new plants we'd need for it.
It's a win-win situation and some people don't want to pay more for corn, well if you have a better idea, I'm all for it. But this one is ready to go.

Speaking of math -- the Obama campaign rolls out another former DNC chairman's endorsement on Friday: Paul Kirk, a superdelegate who led the party from 1985-1989, is coming out for Obama -- a day after Andrew's switch, an Obama campaign official tells The Note. (And don't count on that being it for the day, as the dribble continues.)

Whoo69 3 years ago
Oh yeah, the Wall St. Journal, perhaps the most economically conservative newspaper in this country, is endorsing Hilary's plan. Oh, please!
Whoo69 3 years ago
The WSJ did not support this plan. They stated it was pandering and would put hundreds if not thousands of people out of work. And my God.
Do you think for one second Bush would approve a bill taxing his precious oil companies?
thecp29 3 years ago 3
What Hilary forgets, as much as I hate to admit, is that big corporations have a LOT of expenses to pay off with sales revenue that really shortens the actual profit. Profit is NOT simply sales but the net amount left after you pay all the expenses. We confuse profit with sales and think that a tax like this will have no effect, but it could have a disastrous effect.
Whoo69 3 years ago
If the Congress chose to tax only some portion of the gas market--for example, old gas discovered before April 1977--and to allow other types of gas to go untaxed, a complete passthrough of the tax to consumers could be averted. In this case, the tax on old gas would curtail a pipeline firm's ability to minimize the overall price of gas charged to its customers by mixing less expensive old gas with higher-cost gas.
Whoo69 3 years ago
The Congressional Research Service has analysed that the windfall profit tax brought in $80 billion in extra revenues for the United States government, which was far less than the projected $393 billion. Also, domestic oil production by oil producers was said to be lowered.

You can't fix a severed arm with a fucking band-aid. Obama wants to make it permanent by regulating big oils insane profit levels, but Shillary knows she can't b/c they are big contributors to her campaign. Since she AND McCain both agree on this, it really doesn't hurt big oil. BARF!

If Hillary Clinton were not a socialist in sick-disguise, then an intelligent person in her place with a set of ethics set in gold could campaign for honest change. Why is everyone so against this idea? Barack voted to remove gas taxes in Illinois before. Now it's a bad idea? When it costs $80 to fill your tank and half of that can go to buying something else it's worth a shot.
wwekrazy 3 years ago
Because I would rather pay 7 cents a gallon more so my highways don't go down the crapper?
And she knows this won't get passed, she knows her crap about taxing the oil companies won't happen. It's all a game so we can see the great pandering white hope will save us
extempers 3 years ago
Half of that? The federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon! Assume your $80 is at $3.50/gallon. That makes 22.85 gallons. Multiply that by 18.4 cents and you get a savings of...
$4.21. 5.25%. NOT HALF!
Not to mention the fact that most economists predict that prices would go up anyway to account for the higher demand brought on by this 'savings'.
It's a bigger world than just us, unfortunately.

Whoo69 3 years ago
Save families $8 Billion?? Yeah, right. Who came up with that number? Who calculated it, if that was even a calculation and not something her campaign just pulled out of their asses? I highly doubt suspending a tax of about 18 or 19 cents is gonna save voters $8 Billion immediately. Maybe in 5 or 10 years but not right away like she'd want. Analysts say you'd only save about $30 in the long run from this gas tax suspension, so it's useless. And then when gas prices rise even further...
Whoo69 3 years ago
Hard to decide?? Well, let's look at it closely: You can't get to the store without a tank of gas, so that's the only way you're gonna get the milk unless the store's nearby. Decided yet?

that's false. The price wont go up because of this. Price increases are caused by speculators betting on the supply/demand situation.
Nonetheless it's funny to see so called "progressives" defending rabidly the bottom line of Big Oil.
