I love Damia! She has an impeccable diction and you understand every word she sings! She also recorded "Je crois n'avoir jamais aimé" (1938) and "Le vent m'a dit une chanson" (1939), French versions of Zarah Leander's "Ich hab' vielleicht noch nie geliebt" and "Der Wind hat mir ein Lied erzählt". She also recorded "Je sens en moi" (1935) the French version of Pola Negri's "Mazurka", which has to be heard to be believed
A treat, Damia and Frehel, two marvelous and contrasted singers of France. Damia is dramatic in her rendering while Frehel is very natural and personal. As for the lyrics of the French rendition, judge by yourself as for the content. Passion, devastating passion.
That is very interesting for me and you can assess and judge it. I know Anglo-American lyrics, they are of course about... Love - N&D. Are French alike ? What 'dramatic' does mean here ? Is it French text or/and here interpretation...?
Of course the lyrics are similar (although not a literal translation, the idea is the same), it's the impressive orchestration and above all the vocal, which is sung with more pathos than usual in Anglosaxon renditions.
YouTube is performing the disappearing trick again? Now if they are of this outstanding level I'm very happy with the French artists you're going to present.

Wonderful on every level, not the least of which are the very competent translation and the discreetly swinging orchestra.

Welcome Damia-enthusiast ! From the titles mentioned above I do not have only 'je crois n'avoir...' and would be obliged to possibly get it.
Let me extend to you my invitation for tonight, there will be 'a new' Damia, too, here. And next week and...:-)

1937
Comme le tam-tam qui résonne
Dans la jungle sombre, au lion
Comme le tic-tac monotone
Qui le temps marque le point
Comme cette pluie obsédante
Qui s'acharne sur toit
Sans arrêt ce rêve fou
Me hante-toi, toi, toi

Correction:

Mais si, clo12clo, sur le toit. Quelle chose... Merci de corriger ma ''correction''.

"Devastating passion" - even if it is very dangerous, is much closer to me than Anglo-American 'cool' treatment; short: it's my passion...:-)
Merci !
Both Damia (still today !) and Frehel will be singing here again. And Lys Gauty whom you did not mention.
Come and visit me, pleasure.
