  • hahahaha jacks mannequin or something corporate is my fav band, and andrew mcmahon has influenced me in soo many ways... but MAN did he fuck up his own lyrics. however, he is still the most epic person that i have ever seen/heard in my life, so i cant really complain. his music kicks TOTAL ass. andrew, you are fucking amazing, but i guess your memory isnt great. lol

  • hahahhahaha after i got these comments about me being wrong i watched dear jack to see if i was right and i was wrong.

i feel like such a worthless fan and i disapoint myself.

  • I love Andrew <3

  • I just finished the movie, it was amazing, I lost my mom in December around Christmas and it was amazing, Andrew is a hero, to all of us and so many more, thanks for recording this for us.

  • seriously dude. just sdfu and don't say anything kay? thanks.

  • Live > Studio version, nigger.

  • I was at the screening of "Dear Jack" with Andrew last night. He is such a great person and inspired everyone in the room with his story. The "Jack" he is singing about is still alive. He appears with Andrew at the end of the documentary.

  • wow to think that his first time back playing (this vid) was just one year and one week ago. Im so glad he got through everything and has been able to continue with his singing, he is amazing, his voice is amazing!

  • this song is about a kid he knew when he was in the hospital and the kid has leukimia to and he died. its the saddest thing ever.i would cry if i heard this song live.

  • 1. he didn't know him when he was in the hospital

    2. jack is still alive

    3. you're an idiot

  • duhh nuhh uhhh i heard it in an interview what the song was about? and im right so shut the fuck up.

  • really? so wait Andrew knew Jack when they were both in the hospital for Leukemia right? So why does Andrew talk about Jack being in the hospital when he was 4 years old *or 4 months, cant remember* ? That means since Andrew was diagnosed in 2005 Jack would only be 8, maybe 9 years old now right? Then why does he look in his late teens, early twenties, in the picture of him and Andrew McMahon? not to mention he has to be alive to be in a picture with Andrew

    again, you're an idiot.

  • dude you need to calm your shit.

fighting over youtube is the stupidest thing ever.

again,i know what im talking so dont try and correct me.i wouldnt say shit if i didnt know what i was talking about.

  • @opethsoldier Jack is a family friend who has been through a ton of shit throughout his life, battling lukemia at 4 years old being one of them. Andrew was many years older than Jack, Jack is still alive and well - he was the best man and Andrew's wedding.

  • @amandammo no... you are.... REALLY, really wrong.... sorry.

  • for whatever reason they picked that name, i like the name and i absolutely love their songs!

  • i was at this show and i couldn't believe how many people were talking and clapping it was so rude. they obviously didn't know what this song was about!

  • if they knew they would be on the verge of tears instead. anyone kno? jack is a five year old kid who had luekemia at the same time andrew did. they were at the same hospital and andrew was out, jack wasn't. andrew then made the Dear Jack foundation and this song

  • no.. i thought it was..

Jack is Andrew's brothers friend who had luekemia before Andrew did, Andrew wrote the song about him, then andrew got lukemia. how crazy is that?

  • andrew doesnt have a brother!

  • @cocotreee It is what you said tho, us hardcore Andrew fans know that this song is so special to him, others are just ignorant!

  • I love thisss.

  • actually the mannequin part came from a name for the band, "the black mannequins" but seemed a bit too ambiguous, controversial and the jack part seemed well-fitting about his little friend jack. works out, huh? genius, that man

  • @riotousprose not true, its what yeti98 said.

  • jack was a boy andrew knew when he was younger. jack got seriously sick and andrew later wrote the song dear jack. When Andrew got sick he became "Jacks Mannequin" because he was going through the same thing. He was the mannequin of Jack.

  • where do you people come up with this nonsense?

  • the band was called Jack's Mannequin prior to his cancer ...im just saying its irony ....not nonsense...andrew explains it himself in th film.

  • wrong

  • The story behind Jack's Mannequin was a mixture of Dear Jack and another band name he was interested in "Black Mannequins." He figured the Black Mannequin may be too offensive; as a result, you have Jack's Mannequin. Very awesome too, since they give so much to Leukemia research. As if they are representing Jack, as mannequins of him. Interesting shit.

  • I thought he wanted 'The Mannequins,' but he was sick of all the 'The ---' Bands, and sense he was into 'Dear Jack,' he incorperated Jack into Jack's Mannequin.

  • thats what i thought too! i was pretty sure that he was tired of all the band names that start with "the". anyways where do people come up with these wierd ass stories? black mannequins, come on that dosent sound right at all

  • black mannequins.... i think they changed it from that cus of the racial implications. i think thats what it said on wikipedia anyhow :)

  • no he wanted to name them black mannequins because he was walking in some town and their stores lacked black mannequins...but he thought the name was too racy so he did get jack's mannequin from the first song he wrote.

  • Jack is a 5-year-old boy with lukemia Andrew met when he was in the hospital. When Andrew got out, Jack was still really sick in bed, so Andrew dedicated the Glass Passenger tour to him so he could walk: Jack's Mannequin.

  • I don't think so, because Andrew wrote Dear Jack and started Jack's Mannequin before he got sick

  • Yeah...but marydbak6188 is right, the Glass Passenger was for him.

  • soo i recently found out that my bosses nephew is Jack lol I've always loved this song and now to know the first hand story behind it is amazing!

  • i remember reading when jacks mannequin first formed that this was the first song andrew wrote after soco broke up and this is where they got the name jacks mannequin from because he wrote it for a kid named jack who had lukemia and he was diagnosed with it himself a few months later. hence, he is jacks mannequin. ive been looking for a way to hear this song for three years. im so glad he decided to finally start playing it

  • wait, so why the mannequin? 'cause he's in the same situation as jack?

  • As far as I know, Andrew combined a possible band name "The Mannequin" and song "Dear Jack". He was bored with band names that started with "The" so he combined them to form Jack's Mannequin.

  • how can i rip this song from this video?

  • i always wondered why he "forgot" the words to the song in the middle because i could never hear what he said. and now it was those people clapping. lol. gotta love mr.mcmahon and his add lol

  • Aww <33333

    Speechless.

  • i woulda given those people death stares.

    seriously.

you don't fucking CLAP OR ANYTHING while he's signing.

    no manners?

hahah i'm so protective of my music :p

  • very true

  • i love this song. so much.

  • Just as beautiful as I imagined... I hate rude people at concerts though - my biggest pet peeve.. Cheer and clap at the end of a song, not during it.. But the worst is when people talk through the whole concert and still push through to get to the front!

  • oh my gosh, I'm dying. he takes my breath away

  • seriously, why do people talk during songs like this?and clapping.

anyway, love the song. so much.

  • I couldn't TALK while he was playing this. I don't see how people were even clapping at all.

  • Ugh. I don't understand why people who aren't fans would go to his concert. Ughhh the clapping. I've seen a ton of videos where hes playing and people are talking gah.

  • I wish he had played this at MY show. :(

    thanks for putting this up!

  • i wanted to kill the bitch who started clapping. apparently they aren't too familiar with andrew and the whole dear jack foundation, cause if they were, they would realize how inappropriate the clapping was.

  • Haha. I love this. But he didn't play it at the NC show the next day. Lol.

  • I know! I almost went to the GA show but couldn't because I already had tickets for Charlotte and Chicago. Now I wish I'd gone because he didn't do this at either of those!

  • :')

  • Is what Andrew's saying at 0:23 part of the song?

  • see, just the clapping, i dont know what im doing

    lol

  • noooope he just forgot the lyrics for a sec

  • hellz yeah!!! so awesy!

  • this is WONDERFUL thank you soo much :)

  • this is amazing. thank you so much for uploading this :)

  • THANK YOU for uploading this! Last night was so amazing no?

  • This is beautiful.

  • :O!!!!!!!!!!

:) lol. tegan & sara just talked about the clapping, and now he did. Haha.

    They ruined his song.

  • hahah, who the fuck claps while andrew is singing?

    amazing song, though.

  • no, i think the question is who the fuck TALKS while andrew is singing.

    especially a song like this.

  • AND SERIOUSLY. it was annoying me. i'd backhand anyone around me if i were there.

  • haha, seriously, that was annoying.

  • amazing job filming this.. thank you so much
