So "Kirisute Gomen" and "Shogun" refer to feudal Japan.

Callisto, Scylla and a few others refer to Greek.

Down From The Sky and one other (forget the name) refer to modern times.

SO yeah, not only about Japanese but just epic stories. :)

the song is about how zeus appeared in disguise to a nymph named callisto. he deceived her and raped her. when she bore his son, it was a hunted named arcas. zeus transformed callisto into a bear. many years later, arcas was hunting and nearly killed callisto, still in her bear form. zeus's wife, hera, turned arcas into a bear and put them in the constellations, ursas majoris and ursus minoris.

@alienkid51 actually, it was Hera who turned Callisto into a bear. Zeus was an unfaithful husband and Hera's jealousy would cause her to punish her husband's lovers, even if they were raped or only harassed.

And it's also important to mention the fact that Callisto was one of Artemis' companions and, therefore, had to make a vow of celibacy. Since she had been raped she could no longer hunt with the godess and had to exile herself. I think this is also important to understand this song :) :)

I've read that Arcas shot her and Zeus turned her into a constellation, or like you mentioned Zeus stopped Arcas from killing her and turned them both into constellations. There is also another version were Hera persuades Artemis to slay Callisto, so I gues it just depends on what version you like.
