  • I like it! Just shows how Reason's really good for experimenting with sound

  • Sounds great for IDM :D

  • This is killer, great for IDM/Drum & Bass!!

  • YEAH THE VSNARES SECRET FORMULA!!!!

  • yea dude. awesome stuff. im just terribly vexed as to what your signal chain is like behind there. your (awesome) refill works with dd-19, but how's this dr. rex fitting in there? im sorry, im still sort of new to reason.

  • ok im pretty new to creating digital music.

i have an axiom 61 and reason 4, and an older protools le 001 unit.

i have just started expiermenting with the combinator.

i have been to your top 5 patches, and dl'd the granular snare hit. however, i can seem to get this actualy into reason to use from my combinator.

anytips from anyone would be greatly apreciated.

    thanks

  • I'm not sure what's going on. This patch will only work on Reason 4.0. Even though it's a combinator it will not load into Reason 3.0 or Adapted 3.0.

Also, keep in mind that the patch is a specialized form of a sampler, so it needs to be triggered by a keyboard, pattern sequencer, or midi clip in Reason 4.0.

  • awesome, makes me want to get reason 4 :D

  • dumb question, but how do i connect a rex to this combinator and make sound happen? cause i cant

  • it's not an effect patch, so connecting a device to the combi inputs will not do anything.

  • well...... ok, so how do i run a rex through the effect, is the question i should ask you. sorry the combinator is my weakness.

  • keep in mind that the patch will play one sample at a time. You could load ONE rex slice into an instance of the combinator. Now if you are hardcore, you could load each slice sample into multiple instances of the combis and trigger them individually. I'm thinking that perhaps with a Redrum sending gate cvs out to each combi, this might be a useful configuration. Also a pitch bend cv sent from an RPG-8 to each of the combis to control the pitch, or create a master CV control combi.

  • thank you so much

  • ive had my eye on this patch for like, more than a year. can i please be an applicable beta tester of this patch??. ive been a reason user since 2.5 ;-D.

  • it's been publicly available for over a year. I published the first version in the computer music magazine reason special. Then there's the one that's available through the line6 expand your reason rack free downloads. The most recent iteration is available on the propellerheads website in the artist patch chart section.

  • yaowza. your patches archetecture is genius. thank you again. brilliant!.

  • instant aphex twin ;)

  • Where do i get this refill

  • i just WANTED this tutorial!!

  • is there any way you can put up the reason file or a patch or something that explains how you created this beautiful sound? it would be so helpful so we could all have tries!!

  • I wrote an article on how this patch is created, and a version of this patch was published in the Computer Music Reason 4.0 special edition. Another one is included in my Refill archive available through the Line6 website. You can check my site for more info :)

  • yaeh nice . a bit of commentary would'nt go a miss though.

  • yes aphex twin..I'm using a roland x6 trying to learn sequence all that good shit..

  • This is done via the RGP unit. Since it is possible to hold a single note + a good sliced sample, doing a granular effect is easy and additionaly, peff could only use the devices within reason.

  • this sucks, didn't help at all.

  • who was that back in the mid 90's they had this twisted hard dnb sound. real popular when daft punk was prime time...

  • aphex twin ???

  • Wow, if this system basically lets me do Malstrom-type effects with my own samples (I always wondered why you can't load your own sounds into Malstrom), then I'm looking forward to your ReFill's release!

  • Is there a smooth fader? How do I make it sound smooth? (like Loggin's Trans Am)

  • Granular Synthesis is one of the coolest audio manipulation techniques around today. I've only done it through patches using Max/MSP which have a bit more drastic effect on the audio than I am hearing here, but this is still cool. Reason is the bomb.

  • Love it man! Whats the method behind the madness???

Can I do it on reason 3???

  • Probally...

Unless he's using the new PRG-8...

  • wow that was awsome not sure what the setup was for your combinator but it sounded awsome

  • i would like to see the connections . or at least explain your method. would be greatfull.

  • how to create this patch? It's all I really need O_o, will you release it ? anytthing ?

  • It's pretty easy. It's based on the sample start modulation on a NN-19. I will be releasing a variety of patches based on this form of sound generation. - eventually. I'm a bit busy these days.

  • oh, thanks for yer reply, just

take your time, you have any website where I could keep track on any of your releases/infos ?

    thanks

  • Thanks for the interest in this Combi. Yes, you can subscribe to my site feed on peff•com

    Cheers/

  • thanks, will do
