this song was played last night and is on youtube, look it up, ITS AMAZING
but the song oceania really steals the show, one of the best theyv ever made, its like silverfuck in a sense how it has 3 distinct parts to it, theres a rock part, a soft part in the middle and a heavy part in the end
quasar is straight up heavy fun,
oh and if your worrying about them making this happier, im happy to inform you they made it more rage filled than this
I remember him unveiling this song at the soundcheck in Tampa, FL. Very memorable song...when Billy finished playing on stage he said himself: "Yeah, old school."
Production can really suck the life out of a song or make it pluck a heartstring. The production Pumpkins use is awful. There's none of the atmosphere that made their past albums so great. I bet if Machina had Butch Vig as the producer and had less of the Flood/NIN touches it would have sounded a whole lot better and a lot less un-Pumpkins. Flood was only good on Mellon Collie, and it was not GREAT. Kerry Brown produced the beautiful Starla, so why can't he pull that magic on Teargarden?
@MuffinLandia because these producers "learn" too much along the away and then they can't leave well enough alone. restraint is an art that is lost lately, but it was what early grunge was all about.
Guys, just because the songs are happier in tone (and possibly production--thats up for debate) doesn't make them shit. As an artist one should seek to move forward, not rip off the hits of their past. The new production I feel perfectly captures the Pumpkins' retro influences with a modern, powerful touch that only the Pumpkins can bring. And 'Tom Tom' is great--BCS version AND the new recording.
@d3reilly I agree with u. I like living the past, the present and the future of SP. ¿So what? By the way, when I met Billy Corgan in 2010, I gave him a record of my band that has a mix of old & fresh sound and he adored it (pls. don´t miss the "in the future" video in my channel) BEST REGARDS! :)
Even muffed I feel that old angry the pumpkins used to have.....Im stoked for Billy ....he has turned his sound from angry sad boy music into a cool new thing with roots form classic rock.....every new song seems to improve on the soundscpae he is trying to invent......:)
there has to be a better quality audio version of this somewhere.... this one is so poor, I don't know how to even comment on it. The lyrics are barely audible and the guitar just sounds like noise. Can't hardly hear the melody. What I can hear sounds vaguely like a gish era song.
Yeah, Billy will turn all the chords into majors and make everything all happy instead of angry; then use synthesizers instead of guitars...JK he'd better not. He's been free to do what he wants on this record (Teargarden) and has had a few hits and just as many misses with the instrumentation, but this really sounds like a great combo of new and old pumpkins, and I really hope he keeps it as is.
@cgnetwork1 Dude you're totally right. But he'll still use guitars.. they'll just be cheesy harmonized solos.
the problem billy has is i think he thinks he needs to have EVERY song sound 100% new. But like... tom tom and owata, were perfect as they originally. Owata sounded like zwan meets siamese dream and tom tom sounded like machina meets siamese dream and they were AMAZING as is, but for some ridiculous reason he changed them to sound like shit/ "new".
There have been a few great moments in production so far though. Like freak and the fellowship were totally awesome and sfas had moments of brilliance and stitch in time was almost there (though I think it needed a few more layers)
Hopefully with the pedal devi ever made for him we'll see some more moments of brilliance
@brightinterest I completely agree, 100%. But you forgot the brilliance that is Tom Tom, which rejuvenated my excitement for Teargarden when I first heard it.
@cgnetwork1 theys aid oceania would be heavier and darker, with new style, and PRODUCTION whcih quote "i bewleive alot fo fna will be happy about" i dont think your gonna need to worry about it turning out happy, plus i dont think its possible to make a song like my love is winter a happy song
@cgnetwork1 stop tryna fucking analyze smashing pumpkins as if Billy isn't a badass guitar player and proven veteran of the rock scene. shut the fuck up
@SelfRevolution37 If I didn't love the Smashing Pumpkins - both as a band and a philosophy - I wouldn't be as disappointed as I have been. But I was kidding when I said that, and for good reason. The mixes that have been released since I made that comment have been fantastic, and the live versions of the new songs as well.
SP's new record looks to be absolutely fantastic.
I'd say you're seriously overestimating your own knowledge of the Pumpkins' history and seriously underestimating mine.

@brightinterest I have to agree. To me, the original version sounds better than the synthesized version, but that's just my 2 cents. :-)

Billy will probably screw up the production on this song and we'll still prefer this muffled version.
