This is a strong move for a fast take down especially in a street fight scenario, but not a great move against an even half skilled MMA fighter. You fall right into half guard if not right into opponents full guard.
@FactoryClosure Actually we do have this variation in Judo. We call it a low or drop Ouchi Gari and it's one of my go-to throws. You see it a lot in competition. I do it exactly the way it's discussed here and it's a killer!
@7carcalete I wrestled 189 in high school and now 184 in college, and can tell u from experience that this move works. Drill the motion a lot. I got a small table and would practice and pretend the legs of the table were my opponents legs. You can also hit the move from an over under, hit the trip on the overhook side.
@DrNuggetCase solid tip. i pulled it from over unders after reading that in a submission grappling tournament on 3 different opponents. thats legit. thanks bro
im not a wrestler i do boxing but i love and study the sport alot and these are perfect and helping me alot in mma so thank you these are translating well. the counter to underhook has been gold.
i saw chael sonnen do this move in sparring a few times. he just threw his leg inside and drop hooked it without controling an arm. im assuming easier in mma since the other guys stance is more upright
Excellent lesson. Russian 2 on 1's are so ridiculously versatile. You should do a video on just inside trip technique, because until my coaches taught it to me I got flattened out in the million or so ways to mess up an inside trip.
i would have cross faced your ass.....not going down without a fight....haha

@Powbiscuit But if you're good at getting up or passing and keeping control, you get the take downs points.

i'm pretty sure this coach did judo at some point

@13randonLee Maybe, but wrestling has been around far longer than judo, I'm sure these moves predate judo.
