Don't get me wrong, I used to love this show as a kid. But there is some funny things like everybody speaks English, there are no black people (There are Nordic looking people, Mayans, Romans, Aliens from another planet) and it really bothers me the fact that they sugar water these kind of shows so much, that Tarzan doesn't punch or kick anybody.
I like this tarzan better than any other version No Grunting lol. Like the other filmation leading characters Zorro, Lone Ranger, Black Starr, HeMan, Brave Star He's Strong,Wise, Brave (cute lol) and built Perfect. A mans man .....Now we got bunch of Nerds Geeks and Dorks dominating the fictional universe lol.
They didn't use Cheetah because the chimp never appeared in the original Tarzan novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs; Cheetah was created for the Weissmuller movies and it was decided that this series would attempt to be more faithful to the original source material, which it was. And the apes were known as "Manganis," with the bull Mangani being the males, as per the original novels.
I remember this fondly on CBS Saturday mornings. Along with characters such as the "Bull Mon-ghanis (I think that's how it's spelled) which were "humanoid" Gorillas. These episodes of Tarzan from Filmation Studios were much more compelling to watch than Disney's animated Tarzan and much more action-packed than even the live-action episodes. Too bad they didn't include Jane or Cheetah the chimp. Thanks for posting!
It's funny, I watched this cartoon RELIGIOUSLY as a kid, but I don't remember the details of ONE episode. I remember Tarzan running and jumping and swinging through the trees and vaguely remember the theme music but that's it...
If you ask me, I just remember the Tarzan and the Strange Visitors and Tarzan and Bird People. But as you said, most of the things were ... just deleted from the head :)

They did have a show with Jane and her father. But no Cheetah the chimp.
