I am so sorry for your loss :-( My dachshund had seizures this morning and had to be rushed to the ER. I felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest at the thought of losing him. They become your children and a huge part of your family. Please know that he is happy and is being taken care of in heaven and he will always be with you in your heart.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I have a 4 year old mini schnauzer named Watson who has been having seizures for a year now. He took many tests and we found out he has hyperlipidemia. Did you know what was the cause of Wesley's seizures?

did you give him heartguard? heartguard is contains a pesticide that is know to cause seizures in dogs, yet they continue to sell it, my jack russel had a seizure from heartguard and i quit giving it to him
I adopted an 11 year old Schnauzer who'd previously suffered a heat stroke, and had seizures regularly. We put her to sleep after the pain was evident and she began seizuring more often than not. My condolences.

Sorry about losing you buddy , they leave such a large hole in our lives when a friend like a dog passes ,it is really hard to recover from, and I have noticed it seems to affect certain breeds more than others although it can happen to any mammal . And to the people commenting on why didn't you do anything ? because there is nothing you can do other than make sure he is not going to hurt himself on something while he is seizing. I understand your pain . I am sorry...
Awhh poor baby :'( Sorry to hear for your loss :( I never knew before that dogs can have seizures..until i seen some of these videos. It'd break my heart to even witness it.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I had a miniature schnauzer also. I got her when I was 11 years old, And I am 23 now, and we had her since I was 11. She died last year July 24, 2009. Its been a whole year and still sad about it. But I feel exactly what youa re going through, cause I went thru the same exact thing. God Bless. =)

im sorry to hear about wesley. my miniature schnauzer jodi has seizures too but not like that. she first wobbles then falls to the ground and stiffens up and cry's and her eyes rolls to the back of her head. i talk to her and keep petting her. it takes her about 15min to get back to normal. but she is about 16 years old too. she cant hear and can hardly see. she use to be a chunky dog now she weighs nothing. she has been deteriorating in the past 2 years. but she runs around and barks still.

To all who have / will view this: I am sad to report that Wesley passed away in his sleep October 11th, 2009. I was very depressed & didn't even leave the house for the first 10 days afterward. It's been 7 months & I still miss him deeply! R.I.P. My baby Wesley! Born: August 23rd, 2004 - Died: October 11th, 2009 :-(
@smmoffet Sorry for your loss. The next time you have a dog that does that try feeding him or her some liver. Dogs need meat, just like humans. They need lots of nutrition. Dog food sometimes doesn't offer all of that, like the manufacturers say it does.
@smmoffet hey there. My Beagle, Fang, passed away last year just a few days before my birthday. I wouldnt talk to anyone and was severely depressed. His best friend, Cowboy, who had been like a brother to him was the only reason i made it through, and i think i was the only reason he made it through too. R.i.p. wesley and r.i.p. fangy i hope you play together in doggy heaven :')
thanks for posting this video, you saved my irish wolfhound's life !!! , for i was able to identify a seizure and take Engel to the vet as soon as possible; thanks :D
Help me!!! my first VERY FIRST DOG named billy died :'( he was 11 and had not have any problems . was it anything that has to do with the blood marro or any thing besides blood marro failiure? please help me to get my dog's soul to heaven!! thxs for reading i really miss billy!!! :')
You can actually do something. Make sure your dogs comfy. You can put a blanket over the dogs head (but not over the snout so it can't breath!!). And you can rub the dog where it is stiff. You can also turn on a fan and wipe the snot and druel coming from the dogs nose to help it breath better. This should help a lot. A lot of people's vets give them Valium for their dogs to calm down. They should only last about 1-2 minutes and after them ALWAYS call your vet!
i got a question my dog is haveing one right now...and shes having it bad she never had one and well my question is do they die?? this dog is part of the fam..
There isn't anything you can do genius. Interfering or trying to move the dog will increase the chances of respritory failure, cardiac arrest, permanent damage or death.
So please shut up, and don't post uninformed comments ok "fag"?

ya know something ive found with alot of the videos of animal seizures ive seen on youtube alot of the time theres a tv in the background running maybe keep your dog away from the tv while your watching that might help
To those too ignorant to understand the situation and for those that have asked for advice.
Record it. Recording it will give the veterinarian better grounds to diagnose the dog.
Basic First Aid for any cat or dog for seizures states that you do NOT touch or move the dog. Your dog may injure itself or you. It will be confused and may not recognised you. Even after the seizure, don't instantly approach. Let them come round on their own.
That's what I wish I would have done today. I was so vusy freaking out (dog has epilepsy, but haven't seen him seize in years) I didn't think to even record it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Que cruel eres, gente como tú no debería tener mascotas, se mira en sus ojos el miedo de que no sabe que le pasa y tú no te acercas a confortarlo siquiera. Te iras al infierno.
YES! And the best way to help your dog is go grab your camera and start recording this!
When an animal is having a siezure, apart from reducing external stimuli, there is nothing you CAN do. The best thing is to observe and monitor the animal, and make sure its having the seizure away from anywhere it can harm itself.
Many dogs have regular seizures, and sometimes medication doesnt help. The dog most likely isnt even aware of whats happening, and taping it may prove benefical to any futre treatments.
Yes, its distressing to see, but you dont have to view it.
My dog has fits, each time i feel like shit. Life is about experience and sharing. The truth is that searching for videos of other dogs having fits has helped me a little. Also the vet has asked me to make a video of my dog when it fits. So I can see your comment came from a positive light but maybe you dont understand just how it is.
to smmoffet, thanks for the video. im doing Vet Nursing (Vet Technician) at college and animal seizures is apart of my assignment, this is educational so ignore the morons that dont actually get the purpose of u posting it. :) thanks again!
poor dog, I hope you can get some medication for the lil guy, and to all the cunts who laugh or joke about this, I hope you fucking die, my brother died of a seizure and I egt fucking vexed when I hear someone laughing at them!
To set the record straight, the reason I caught these seizures on video was because Wesley only ever had seizures at home, the vet had never seen him have one. I wanted to get it on video so that I could show it to the vet. These videos were NOT taken as some form of sick entertainment as you seem to be implying. I decided to post the videos on youtube, thinking maybe it would help others and from some of the comments I've gotten on here it has and I am glad for that.
BlackWingedVampiress WHY IN THE HELL WOULD WOULD YOU LOOK FOR THIS IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE COMMENTS LIKE THAT You clearly have no understanding what the video is for. Vets need to see stuff like this to try and make an accurate diagnosis what could be wrong so now ill leave off where you left it WITH DUMB ASS!
if you READ properly, u will note the the original was for the vet and he placed the video onto youtube for others to learn about this and what the signs are. like my purpose for watching this is to gain an understanding and note down the signs for my college assignment.
@EasyBakeSmiles actually seizures can be fatal, I should know I almost lost my dog to one this past summer. Had I not sped to the vet I might have lost my dog. Seizures if left untreated can also cause permanent brain damage to dogs. In fact, my neighbors have a puppy who has epilepsy and they refuse to get the dog vet attention, and as a result the puppy cannot learn any commands, or even its own name, because it has so much brain damage.
Well o_o the vets say (according to my friends vet) not to try to calm an animal while they're having an episode. They say its on the line of prolonging the seizure, as for a human, i'd imagine of course you can help them...(seeing that theyre obviously someone who understands...)
Yeah I freaked out when I saw mine having one a few months ago. He has epilepsy, but I had never seen him have it as bad as opening his mouth wide etc.
my dog (aussie chow and border collie mix) has epilepsy(spelling?) and you really have to watch them bc their body heat can get REALLY high..... but Max (my dog) is on pills for that
Thank you smmoffet for posting the video of your dog Wesley having an epileptic seizure. A few months ago our Pug had a seizure, and we had no idea what it was. Then, last night, he had another one as we were watching TV. I knew immediately it was related to the first, and that it was probably epilepsy. It's been so helpful to be able to see videos of what other canine epileptic seizures look like, I can't thank you enough for posting this. Best to you and Wesley -
Sorry for jumping your gun about it.. I guess I was in a bad mood that night and freaked when I saw this. I am glad to hear that he hasn't had so many this year. and Glad you care so much about him that you spend the kind of money you do. Good for you! :3
I hope he gets a lot better. once again, I am sorry. my comment was uncalled for.
I have a standard Schnauser named Greta, who is getting on in her years. I've had her for what feels like an eternity, and I've enjoyed every waking moment of it. At estimate she is maybe 11 or 10. I'm praying that her life won't come to having seisures, however I do know that she will go blind, deaf and then lose continence. Do you have any tips for older dogs? Wesley looks so so so much like my "puppy-bear" as I have began to call her.
I appreciate you posting this. I have a minature schnauzer named "chip" and he is 11 years old and he just started having seizures a couple of days ago and it freaked me out to see it happen. Seeing the video honestly helped me with watching it happen. Good luck and Thanks !
anyway, there is meds you can get an animals on so they don't have these, because yes, it CAN damage there health, especially if they stop breathing..
Wesley started having seizures 02/05 & was started on 2 seizure medications that same month & he also takes thyroid medication as of 02/07. We spend over $30 a month on his seizure & thyroid medication & $85 on blood tests every 6 months. I keep track of every seizure & report it to our vet, there were 43 seizures in '05, 60 seizures in '06, 19 seizures in '07 & so far in '08 7 seizures. So I would appreciate it if you wouldn't insinuate that we have not been doing anything to stop his seizures.
Aww, poor buddy.
Sorry for your loss.

Does the vet have a Youtube account then?
reophonic 3 years ago
if you READ properly, u will note the the original was for the vet and he placed the video onto youtube for others to learn about this and what the signs are. like my purpose for watching this is to gain an understanding and note down the signs for my college assignment.
ITS EDUCATIONAL!

they start to slow down then they get back to normal. seizures dont really kill or serious. :)
EasyBakeSmiles 2 years ago
@EasyBakeSmiles actually seizures can be fatal, I should know I almost lost my dog to one this past summer. Had I not sped to the vet I might have lost my dog. Seizures if left untreated can also cause permanent brain damage to dogs. In fact, my neighbors have a puppy who has epilepsy and they refuse to get the dog vet attention, and as a result the puppy cannot learn any commands, or even its own name, because it has so much brain damage.
DeCreations 2 years ago
@DeCreations Oh my, i didnt know that. Im so sorry! D:
EasyBakeSmiles 2 years ago
Well o_o the vets say (according to my friends vet) not to try to calm an animal while they're having an episode. They say its on the line of prolonging the seizure, as for a human, i'd imagine of course you can help them...(seeing that theyre obviously someone who understands...)
EmoFoxChibi 2 years ago
Yeah I freaked out when I saw mine having one a few months ago. He has epilepsy, but I had never seen him have it as bad as opening his mouth wide etc.

Good luck and Thanks !
heidilynne1013 3 years ago 4
why do you post this?
anyway, there is meds you can get an animals on so they don't have these, because yes, it CAN damage there health, especially if they stop breathing..
puppyface13 3 years ago 4
Wesley started having seizures 02/05 & was started on 2 seizure medications that same month & he also takes thyroid medication as of 02/07. We spend over $30 a month on his seizure & thyroid medication & $85 on blood tests every 6 months. I keep track of every seizure & report it to our vet, there were 43 seizures in '05, 60 seizures in '06, 19 seizures in '07 & so far in '08 7 seizures. So I would appreciate it if you wouldn't insinuate that we have not been doing anything to stop his seizures.
