Fear was great until Lee Ving basically deserted Fear to pursue acting. Philo, Spit Stix and Derf had to keep working. Spit Stix drummed for several combos, including surf legend Dick Dale. Derf played in another band (I forgot the name) and Philo eventually began teaching. When Lee Ving started his Lee Ving Army I remember going to the Whiskey in the 90s, it was good but w/o the other orig. members, it wasn't great. Those other cats made Fear whole. Their charisma was missed.
I am so proud to say that I was the only...ONLY (!) little chick in my so called honky "home"town to own their album..(."the Album"). I played it so much I SWEAR , I thought my head would explode. It is addictive and amazing and FREEDOM on vinyl. Fear can make your head explode ,,,,I am convinced. ♥ Gawd I miss those (few) good times from my youth. And I still have the record. Yayyyy
@metaller8 I'd like to see any of the afore mentioned sing like this 1:38. They're all good but cmon, be real. And you know what, all this time i knew he was a WOP haha
Lee Ving is one of America's underrated artists. a true talent. The problem was people couldn't handle his politics. The guy was ahead of his time. I remember when people insulted me and my friends for being fans of FEAR and Lee VIng. This guy makes me proud to be American. screw liberals.
@nikto45 Actually I enjoyed Fear, too, and no doubt you'd call me a liberal (though you probably have no idea what the word means). I like some of Nugent's music too, even though he's a right-wing sexist douchebag. Similarly, Fear didn't make a lot of friends back in the day with their occasionally racist, sexist and senselessly violent lyrics. I never took even the best of punk entirely seriously, myself , but that intro to Beef Baloney establishes Lee Ving's power.
@nikto45 I like FEAR plenty well (enough to have 'em painted on an old jacket) and I'm a "liberal" if by liberal you include "libertarian socialist" - what's wrong with either? I mean last time I heard "Foreign Policy" I didn't take it as a shining example of pro-bomb everything sentiment, it sounded like a subversive tongue in cheek criticism of what we do?
@nikto45 Actually, Lee Ving is/was a liberal. Try listening to the lyrics of "Let's Have A War", homeboy! Or "I Don't Care About You". Those 'suburban scumbags' he's singing about are Republicans! LOL!
@athompson7 homeboy??? who talks this way? Lee Ving was far from liberal and the other band members confirmed it. Spit Stix stated in an interview that Lee Ving's right wing political views became too much. Suburban scumbags is basically calling like it is, the majority of punk rockers were suburban scumbags. LOL.
Now, stop trying to talk like a gangbanger monkey. idiot
@nikto45 What an interesting argument. Fear was definitely a bunch of white dudes putting offended libtards in their place. Fear was the band that said, fuck dione warwick and afro-bozo culture.
It's no joke ... what it shows is that Lee has a very broad social range, the man is a bit of a Renaissance - he's more dangerous than many of the others performers of his era because he is a thinker and has real intelligence. You get it or you don't ...
i saw fear 2 xs back in the early 80s.i was in a few punk and metal bands,left Cali 10 yrs ago,and moved to bumfuk,Arkansas.i still play,but since moving to the rural south,i picked up banjo,mandalin,and soon a 3-string c.b. guitar,which i JUST discovered.(took to it like a fish ta water...after hearing Lee sing in THIS style,i may get more into this type of music.

Ok..want to explain why the word "Dickies" is in your title? Lee was in FEAR...Leonard-Stan-Chuck-Billy-Karlos were the oriiginal Dickies.

@msinthrop 2:20 explains it all.

@msinthrop At the end, there's a logo for the Dickies clothing company; it must have sponsored this, somehow.

A true genius. I love Lee Ving. And yes, he is a true American and proud of it.

Lee, what about Joey Ramone? Greg Graffin? Milo Aukerman? etc
Don't know why he thinks he's the only good punk singer, but he is very good.
