If you don't want to stun your genetics, from light burn ,I highly recommend this method, works like a charm. For me it takes four to six days to see a sprout thanks jason cheers!
The seedling only need light when the sprout arises. This said do not put a seedling under a HID lamp in the 600w - 1000w range unless it is far away from the lamp for you need not light posion you young plants by stressing them with over kill of light.
As long as the seeding is below the soip it needs no light rather good constant tempature in the soil and general enviroment.

hey man ive just germinated a seed it was kidn of germinated the root came out but not fully ive planted it in soil in a small pot ive made the green house effect by puttin cling film tightly over the top of the pot so it heats up ... ive also set up a light 2 ...

i just spread 80 seeds i ordered from paradise seeds side by side in a cat litter box using fox farms soil and spring water under a 2 strip fluorescent.
within 4 days there were sprouts within a week they were allpopped up and out of the soil take a spoon dig them up from underneath and manualy seperate them and put them into whatever medium u are using ,,its a weed ...simple to germinate and grow,,,

you think this method is ok? a cup to sticks with toilet paper hanging off the sides with the seeds absorbing water through the toilet paper (which the seed is in between) the water rises and keeps the paper wet (kept in the dark obvious till ready to plant) is this a good method or no?

You are correct they will not drown when they sink rather stress as they are user water with no air source.
One could germinate a seed in a cup of water if they wish! This said preventing environmental stress is IMO more important thus not allowing the husk to open on the seed and exposing the radicle to light is why I would not allow for them to sit at the bottom of the cup.
All said they do not drown I was incorrect in that statement!

actually, as far as I know feminized seeds can be obtained if you flower a female too long it produces pollen sacs (bananas) as a last chance to keep it's strain going. You can harvest that pollen and pollinate another female and the resulting seeds are feminized.

By nature's way the seed will open as normal in water and can be transplanted straight into soil if caught early.
This is not optimal for the radical once exposed to light is effected in a profound way as with the handling of the husk and radical during transplant with fingers is a concern.
This is why a 3rd step is suggested hence the green house method you soak the seed for 12 hrs check and then again after 24hrs if necessary when the seed sinks to the bottom then plant.
How do you go about getting an exemption card in Canada. I understand you must feel there is a real need. I just have no idea the proper channels to take.
whenever the medium is almost completely dry....stick your finger in the top (and the bottom holes)....if it's wet, or even moist at all in either or both places....DON"T WATER....but if it's dry then fill the pot with enough water to let 10% runoff.....and you can't feminise seeds by yourself.....and no it's not recommended.....feminised seeds have a high rate of hermies.....just get regular seeds (if possible) and hope for some females to clone

Yes they can actually grow, considering they're still good. Test it by dropping it in a cup filled with water. if it floats, its good to go! id it doesnt, throw it out. If you want, you could get seeds online. A lot of seebanks. Check out some forums regarding growing. It'll help a ton.
if ya get feminised seeds they could be hermaphrodites so if ya get a male branch on the plants the seeds will be feminised, if ur growin a lot it could mess it all up coz the male branches aint esy to spot
If your a first timer, and your growing one, and its a male, just grow it. You can make hash out of the leaves. If your growing like three, and two are female and one is male, just kill the male so you don't have to make whole other grow room in order to avoid them having a threeway.
Do I need to put them under light when I germinate them using the green house method??? I was also thinking of the towel method....will I have to soak them before putting them in the towels?? im not 100% but i think hydroponics just has to do with the co2 gas that indoor growers use on thier buds in the flowering stage, but other then that i dont really think hydro is any different then normal growing
you can give it 18 hours of light a day, or 24 hours.. .and I usually use a couple 43 watt CFL's until I get my 3rd set of leaves and then I switch to my HID...
if your wife uses make up then she prolly has cotton wool to remove her make up you could get a cup put 2 of those cotton wool thing on the bottom and 2 on the top get them wet (duhh) then put a piece of plastic rap over the cup and it should germinate fine

Correct for the paper towel method it is not as important. This said I like to be sure the husk of the seed is soaked all round for optimal germination. Laying them on a towel and covering them is no assurance of uniform moisture thus I soak for 12 hrs.
I disagree with you , when you said dont let the seeds sink to the bottom..There is no problem in doing that as long as you dont leave them there for a long period.Its actually a good way to tell if there good to grow because if they dont sink ''there bunk''
Soil is natural for planting kinda where seeds belong and weed will have more flavour from soil...Rockwool is fine to use aswell but you can have problems with fungus or algae growing on Rockwool which can be crop destroying so Rockwool can be a disadvantage there. There s ups and downs about both methods.. Very good video well explained *****

The plant take 30 days (strain dependent)to show pre-sex parts. To a trained eye with a 30x scope a male or female can be determined only after they have matured (30 DAYS)from seed!

Some strains are imported and $80 is the low end of the seeds. If you know who you are dealing with stable genitics will never be an issue.

A chemical is used for the process of feminized seeds hence all female!
Google ethylene and you will learn how to secure all female plants without having to pay an arm and leg for the seeds!

actually, as far as I know feminized seeds can be obtained if you flower a female too long it produces pollen sacs (bananas) as a last chance to keep it's strain going. You can harvest that pollen and pollinate another female and the resulting seeds are feminized.

Jason, nice video, very informative. however I started some seeds that wern't germinated, I threw themn into soil and the tap root popped about the soil instead of the seed.
that is why I paper towel sperout so I can then place the root downwards

By nature's way the seed will open as normal in water and can be transplanted straight into soil if caught early.
This is not optimal for the radical once exposed to light is effected in a profound way as with the handling of the husk and radical during transplant with fingers is a concern.
This is why a 3rd step is suggested hence the green house method you soak the seed for 12 hrs check and then again after 24hrs if necessary when the seed sinks to the bottom then plant.

whenever the medium is almost completely dry....stick your finger in the top (and the bottom holes)....if it's wet, or even moist at all in either or both places....DON"T WATER....but if it's dry then fill the pot with enough water to let 10% runoff.....and you can't feminise seeds by yourself.....and no it's not recommended.....feminised seeds have a high rate of hermies.....just get regular seeds (if possible) and hope for some females to clone

What are the odds of me just picking some seeds out of my weed that i buy to smoke, and planting them and them actually growing? I dont know where to buy seeds here... Ive never grown any plants before so any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Yes they can actually grow, considering they're still good. Test it by dropping it in a cup filled with water. if it floats, its good to go! id it doesnt, throw it out. If you want, you could get seeds online. A lot of seebanks. Check out some forums regarding growing. It'll help a ton.

if ya get feminised seeds they could be hermaphrodites so if ya get a male branch on the plants the seeds will be feminised, if ur growin a lot it could mess it all up coz the male branches aint esy to spot

If your a first timer, and your growing one, and its a male, just grow it. You can make hash out of the leaves. If your growing like three, and two are female and one is male, just kill the male so you don't have to make whole other grow room in order to avoid them having a threeway.

Nice Vids Jason. I live in Alaska so growing and smoking is legal to an extent here. Who can I absolutely trust to get seeds from. I've spent the last month reading and watching vids here on youtube. im not 100% but i think hydroponics just has to do with the co2 gas that indoor growers use on thier buds in the flowering stage, but other then that i dont really think hydro is any different then normal growing

you can give it 18 hours of light a day, or 24 hours.. .and I usually use a couple 43 watt CFL's until I get my 3rd set of leaves and then I switch to my HID...

if your wife uses make up then she prolly has cotton wool to remove her make up you could get a cup put 2 of those cotton wool thing on the bottom and 2 on the top get them wet (duhh) then put a piece of plastic rap over the cup and it should germinate fine

Correct for the paper towel method it is not as important. This said I like to be sure the husk of the seed is soaked all round for optimal germination. Laying them on a towel and covering them is no assurance of uniform moisture thus I soak for 12 hrs.
Finally it speeds up the process by about 3 days!

Soil is natural for planting kinda where seeds belong and weed will have more flavour from soil...Rockwool is fine to use aswell but you can have problems with fungus or algae growing on Rockwool which can be crop destroying so Rockwool can be a disadvantage there. There s ups and downs about both methods.. Very good video well explained *****

questions for your method of germinating
when you put the seeds to soak in water, do you put the water container in light or in complete darkness? do you top off the water container where the seeds are or it doesn't matter? also i saw you had commented and said to soak them for 10 hours i just want to clarify that part if by 10 hours the root doesn't come out then just wait til it does?

Use low light they do not need much in the first two weeks and slowly move the seedlings closer to the main grow area.
If other plants are in the room raise the seedlings up to a similar hight

The plant take 30 days (strain dependent)to show pre-sex parts. To a trained eye with a 30x scope a male or female can be determined only after they have matured (30 DAYS)from seed!
