  • that was awesome.. thought there's a ghost in there.. haha!

  • @stanczakmarekjr that would be so funny haha!

  • i thought there was a guy there.

  • Just imagine a trojan in that shit> LIVE GTA !!!!

  • Pirus's are week

  • SKYNET!

  • @Scobleizer I believe that is a Ladybug 3 (360 video) on the roof above an advanced LIDAR. Interesting rig for stabilizing that connects the rig to the car's more rigid body than a roof rack.

  • I Robot anyone?

    BTW did the guy crash?

  • Imagine that car having a processor (or whatever) fail and getting no orders , so it just drives straight through cars , people , walls xD

  • @qpa1 it would alert the driveer to take the wheel

  • Eh whoever is saying this isn't real, look it up. Google is working on self-driving cars but obviously you'd want a guy there to monitor it and take over just in case, since it's still in development. Look it up, there's several news articles.

    And nice taking-videos-while-driving skills. Lol.

  • @qowface There is a guy in there.

  • do u know lane departure warning system??

this video is fake and gay

  • @PAthEtiCWhORES

type in google car abc...it was on the news...i saw it with my own eyes...it's not fake

  • Makes me think of ex Driver.

  • omg are you filming while driving?, jeez no wonder why they invented those self-driving cars...

  • right now it drives like an old asian women, but 10 years maybe a teenage asian lady?

  • Self driving??? There was a guy behind the wheel of the car, how is that SELF Driving??? What is can speed up and slow down on its own? Can it turn corners? I call BS on this video being that of a SELF driving car.

  • @snipe05

There has to be a guy in the driver's seat for legal and safety reasons. They're still developing it. The guy mostly just sits there and the car does *everything*. The guy is only there in case of an emergency.

  • @snipe05

It does it all.. steer brake everything. Check more vids on youtube.. there are some more detailed videos. Its not a hoax. Google has been secretly developing it with DARPA.

  • who's going to be the first person to paint a line in the middle of the road?

  • @casemods

Doesnt work that way.. that thing on the roof is a lazer scanner. That plus maps, and GPS , and database on the road rules.. and off it goes. They have logged over 140,000 miles without an issue. Pretty amazing.

  • Will they always have blenders on the top of them?

  • hmm irony, a guy taking a video of a car that drives itself WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY.

  • This will remove any doubts. Do a Google search for, what we're driving at

Click on the one that says, Official Google Blog: What we're driving at.

Sorry, this is the only way. Posting a link is being blocked for some reason.

  • Nice. I can't wait for the Google road rages.

  • de la merde cette vidéo ne dévoile rien !

  • If your wondering why there is a man behind the wheel it is because if something goes wrong he is there to take care of it and in this case if theres a person filming him he is there to slow down so he wont get filmed

  • there is a driver. he is braking. therefore, it is not a self driving car.

  • @hanshuber123 what the fuck do you know? oh that's right, jack shit. Why would anybody put a prototype vehicle on the road that is fully functional by a computer and not have the feature of human override, especially for a situation such as sudden braking? derp derp derp

  • theres someone behind the wheel

  • @AuRevoirMonAmourr

All cars have two people in themselves, one at the wheel, which intervenes if anything starts going bad, and an engineer who oversees all the system so that everything works as it should.

  • @korvmebro what's the point then? why not just have the man drive the car... makes no sense.

  • @AuRevoirMonAmourr

A car contains multiple cameras, radar, GPS and lasers that work with information on signs, traffic lights and how many files have a path. According to Google, this technique could halve the number of road deaths. Behind Google's opinion is the fact that the computer system has a 360-degree view and simply sees more than us humans when we are out driving. The system also has a much shorter reaction time and more precision than we have.

  • @AuRevoirMonAmourr no effort. if you're not gonna have anyone inside the car there's no point of even a regular car existing, because it does exist for transportation

  • This reminds me of the film 'Minority Report' (set in 2050) where the US Government was able to take control of John Anderton's car and put it into lockdown. In the future Google may have that power and lend their services to the authorities.

  • how come it drives itself ? What about the man behind the wheel?

  • probly some guy with camera on dash at goog hq

  • I'm counting four people in the car including one in the driver's seat.

  • AND SKYNET IS HERE.

  • @KillYourPC

Ironic how you mentioned SKYNET...and this is all being done out in Cali, where, get this...ARNIE happens to reside.

Damn, all the pieces are fitting together now!

  • To the people saying that there is some one in the car so It's not self driven. First of all they probably have him in the car just in case something does go round like I dunno it doesn't brake or whatever. why even ask the question

  • awww one more step into humans destruction by robots =[

  • why were there people in it?

  • @kerflop they were testing it. it's a precaution in case anything goes wrong. that was one of the agreements google had with the state police for testing it on the roads

  • @denzilj Do you think something like this has a chance to become the standard for driving? How would the police force support themselves without the revenue they generate from traffic citations? (speeding tickets, moving violations, DUI) These self-driving cars would basically negate all of those violations if they work properly.

  • @gwed0

The human element will still be present. Further, people will never give up full control, so there will always be some idiot to screw up, somehow.

  • @gwed0 i wudn't worry much about that. there are always assholes and idiots who wud speed and do stupid stuff on the road. besides, i think this technology wud be optional, similar to auto-pilot. therefore every1 wudn't always utilise this feature

  • How does it follow the curvature of the lanes? Is it actually following the markings? That is simply incredible.

  • @MeketoaI yeah

  • driver is only there if things go awry otherwise this is an auto driven car that funnel at the top is its hallmark there's a navigation engineer too sitting in passenger seat! it is remarkable

  • 2 days ago this 8 months old video had only 300 views. Great FULL HD clip. CNN used it today.

  • @Synchro10 yeah CNN use it that's why i came here i don't watch tv so a tweet sent me here looking for this video yesterday Google Car talk was going great on twitter with Scoble and Matt

  • Ha! I'm listening to you right now on TotN!

  • There are people in the car people, of course. They're testing it, read up on it on the Official Google Blog. Keywords in Google: What we're driving at.

  • The people inside aren't driving. They're just there in case if the car becomes self aware or something.

  • three people inside #LOL

  • @curhsa There's people inside, but the car is driving itself. The official Google Blog if you'd like to read on it. Keyword's in Google: What we're driving at.

  • 0:24 I see the driver.. retards.

  • @g0blin

Yeah totally, its definitely not Google being safe on a test-model..

  • @g0blin What? you seriously thought Google would just send out unmanned vehicles without telling anyone?

He's there incase something goes wrong.

  • You really think Google could just send out drones on to public highways? When the technology actually does come out its probably going to be like auto-pilot. When you dont want to drive just hit a button, put it where youre headed and eat/text/call while "driving". Of course he can control the car, what if this early test model goes on a collision course?

  • Super Google a trouver le moyen de coupler une voiture sans chauffeur une voiture sans chauffeur couplé a la géolocalisation, il n'aura jamais était aussi facile de pister quelqu'un !!

  • I see a man inside..

  • You're all going to be so disappointed when it finally comes out that it doesn't drive by itself. Actually, Richard Hammond is driving it.

  • i work for the development of autonomous driving car & believe me the technology is not been so much developed to launch a self driven car as of now. its still under research.

  • ummm... theres clearly people in the car. The driver even looks at the camer man and hits the brakes. How is this a self driving car.

  • @whygodrums10 Google has been working on this for an unknown amount of time, but only announced it yesterday. The people in the car are not driving it. The guy in the driver's seat is able to take manual control of the car if he feels it's necessary, such as when he saw he was being filmed, or if he sense danger and isn't sure the car will detect it. Other than that though, the car is completely on it's own. Read up about it in the links in the description

  • New York Time's had reported this...it is auto-driving car!

  • if you look carefully, there's someone in there

  • @JimmayAM yes, he is there to take manual control of the car whenever he feels it's necessary. Read about it in the links in the description: Google has been field testing self driving cars for an unknown amount of time, but they legally have to have a human in the drivers seat with the ability to take manual control.

  • @JimmayAM duuuhh!!! it's a test. u need a person in the vehicle for human intervention in case something goes wrong!!!

  • YEHHH GO U.S technology :/

  • oh thats not dangerous, driving while filming

  • Google is awesome!!

  • Is that like a Honda with Google software, or a new Google car?

  • @jhtrico1850 It's a toyota prius.

  • @jhtrico1850

It's a Toyota Prius, just with lots of stuff attached to it

  • @kkinnm Cool. So 1 day we can all go to Florida and sleep on the way there..

  • @n4naveen because its configuration is that of the self-driving car. The mapping cars have a different configuration.

  • @Scobleizer, what you said doesn't make any sense.

  • @n4naveen you can tell because there's no one in the driver's seat >.>

  • @gamehero77 no way! are you blind? you can clearly tell there is someone up front

  • @gamehero77 There is someone in the drivers seat though...

  • @frostyfireman haha I didn't see him XP fail but google did say that these cars were self-driven, so he's probably there just to make sure it doesn't malfunction

  • @n4naveen

If you think it's because there is a guy in it, it's because google isn't stupid. They want people there to correct the imminent mistakes that cars will make... so they dont crash and kill people like you. Although, that would be a bonus to the world...

  • @handsupdb you probably right ! .. cos that's why you are still alive ..

  • on the top is the mounted "lidar-sensor" a laser scanning everything in distance around 70m of the car

built in the front / rear bumper are 4 radar sensors scanning distances to objects

    check this video:

    video.nytimes.com/video/2010/10/09/science/1248069147736/look-ma-no-hands.html

it shows the interior of one of the "robot-cars"

  • I know the driver is in there incase something goes wrong, but some no hands show off would have been nice ;)

  • I need one now. My commute is WAY too long...

  • Wow, I didn't realize this is a self-driving car. Explains why they didn't like me filming it and why they braked so suddenly to avoid my camera.

  • @Scobleizer yeah thank god no one was behind that car.

  • @Scobleizer what do you mean they?

  • @Scobleizer why were you filming to begin with then?

  • @Scobleizer whats so bad about driving on its own? why they had to break?

  • @Scobleizer It is more likely that they braked hard because you were filming them and not paying attention to YOUR driving and didn't want to be responsible for you getting in an accident. Good job.

  • @Scobleizer

They probably braked to get away from the guy using a camera instead of driving his car.

  • @Scobleizer thats probly how they got rear-ended

  • Actually I did get a pix of the same car on 1/24/2010 but did not know what it was. I assumed it was from Stanford as they are nearby. twitpic:2w70ra

  • how cool lol. it was driving its self!!!!!

  • Hahaha... the Google driver must have gone all "oh shit! Robert Scoble is filming us!"

  • congrats on being one of the first to capture these self driving cars

  • I for one bow down to our Google self driving overlords.

  • Robert, that's the self-driving Google Car !!

  • Comment removed

  • The camera on top is the Ladybug 3 from Point Grey Research. Only 15 fps, but great resolution. Interesting that they have hard mounted it to the vehicle, must be concerned with minute camera movement which leads me to think that they are doing some sort of photogrametry. Anyone what company? Facet? MS? Definitely not Google. - former Street View driver

  • is this just a toyota/lexus advert? is there nothing else on the road in the US?

  • at the end, both the passenger and driver are looking at you like wtf? lol

  • thats not a google car you silly billy

  • @sammerron Fail.

  • @RoboDouche why am i a fail?

  • @sammerron because you're wrong.

  • @mattyohe prove me wrong then ass wipe

  • @sammerron Considering this is a Prius driving in silicon valley, and it happens to look exactly like the rig that Google uses on top of their own self-driving Priuses that were just written about in NYT, yeah it's a pretty safe bet.

You didn't offer any proof as to why it's not a google car, so who's winning this internet argument now?

  • @mattyohe because where i live ive seen them before they actually have google written on the side and the camera is much more chunkier than this one. and they didnt drive priuses they drove astras so theres my proof. whose winning the argument now?

  • @sammerron What you did see were in fact Google Street view cars that take 360 photos that end up in Google Maps.

Also, think about what you're saying here. You're saying you've "seen them" before, yet Google didn't make this project public until the NYTimes article came out two weeks ago. You evidently think Google labels their secret vehicles and since this isn't labeled, it's not a Google car?

Try Googling "Astra Google Street View" and get back to me.

    Oh, and I'm still winning.

  • @mattyohe as i said where I LIVE i see holden astras with google written on the side. i should also add i live in australia so we are both right. dont get so cut about it

  • @mattyohe and also i never said ive seen these so called 'secret' cars just the regular google cars. here in australia they are labelled google on the side

  • hes prolly searching wifi hotspots for free internetz

  • Are you sure this is a google car? I seem to remember there being a logo on the street view car.

  • Sweet.

  • this is not a google street view car. It's another company.

  • Now they have to drive that piece of road again to get new footage without the guy in the car next to them taking video. :p

  • lol! Another Prius!
