  • Great Simon & Garfunkel video. I would greatly appreciate it if you could put me on your mailing list. Thanks Steve..Ricky..

  • @rjc3208 Thanks a lot Ricky, you're already on my list, I subbed your channel long time ago.

  • Thank you Cameron Crowe.

  • I love Paul Simon.

  • Exelent post ., Two Master of de good Songs ., thank for post .

  • What the hell was up with men and hair in the 70's??!!! Art Garkunkel looks like "Sideshow Bob" from "The Simpsons"! All he needs is a big red nose and floppy shoes!

Funny-- laughing... they are our American Poet Lauriets! Beautiful music, Paul and Art are great writers... great geniuses!

  • @Paganguy1 Art Garfunkel didn't write any of their songs.

  • @iw32

You are right, of course. I was merely commenting on hair.... but Paul Simon was the genius....

  • This song puts me in mind of both " Midnight Cowboy " and " The Graduate "......although it was used in NEITHER movie. But Dustin Hoffman rides, vacant and lost, on a bus in both. In fact, in " The Graduate " (with songs by Paul Simon ) Hoffman rides a bus with.......Kathy ( Katherine Ross )

  • I've been playing music for 40 years and the originality, complexity and beauty of Joe Osborn's bass guitar playing on this song never fails to amaze me. It's more lead guitar work than you'd expect from a bass guitar. And he's waaay up on the neck in many parts. At 2:37, Joe just cooks! Listen with headphones to the left channel and see what I mean.

  • @slogans777

In fact, it's a very musical song....guitar(s), drums, that magical bass, the organ. But there's something else, something like an oboe, or a clarinet, or a soprano sax. It comes in at 1:19. It sounds like both the clavioline that Lennon used on " Baby You're A Rich Man " and the mellotrone he used on " Strawberry Fields. " Anyone know what it is and what the lineup of musicians was on this magnificent song?

  • @MJLatora Not sure what the instrument is. Sounds like a clarinet but could be a keyboard like a clavioline. Don't think it's a Mellotron. I know Joe Osborn played bass and probably Hal Blaine on drums. I always thought Since S&G were from NY, it'd be a NY session group but that's obviously not the case on this album.

  • Usually I am in favour of free speech! But how did two musically challenged people manage to work out how to a) use a computer b) get on line c) find this song on" you tube" d) and to show their dislike ?????

  • Someone else said "A very political song, disguised as a harmless ditty" I agree. Think about it. And at the start of this political season, remember these relevant and wise words also from the late 60s: "I am just a poor boy though my story's seldom told, I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises; All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest..." (from The Boxer) Do have a Happy July 4th, America (wherever you've gone)

  • I forget where, but I posted a reply that "Simon and Garfunkel had so much more to say about a tougher generation than modern music does"... Some fool replied with a rapper's name (unkown to me) that 'he has a lot to say about today and these times are harder'. I laughed!

He obviously doesn't understand the social plights of that era nor the military draft!

  • Remember playing the LP & hearing this song on the radio in the Summer 1968. Why it did not get charted higher than it did is a great crime.

  • The song describes in first-hand terms with non-rhyming lyrics, the physical and metaphorical journey of two companions in search of the true meaning of America. On a metaphorical level, the lovers' initial hopefulness, turns to a sense of angst and maybe sadness. "'Kathy, I'm lost,' I said, though I knew she was sleeping" is a reference to Kathy Chitty, with whom Simon had had a relationship while living in England in 1965.

  • It is notable as one of the few rock records to have a completely unrhymed lyric.

  • Paul Simon is talented :)

  • One of the greatest songs to come from the 60's, and absolutely timeless......

  • Luv this track from two greats. Grew up with S & G and still luv to listen to their music today.

  • america owes so much to this!!!this is the brilliance that the sixties and seventies had !!part of an american dream

  • i got to admit the years of my da playing these guys songs in the car instead of the latest songs................i dont regret

  • songs like this make me emotional, it's so lovely.

  • only simon and garfunkle. this song is perfection to me. loooooove it. it's all i hear when i drive cross country, seeing so many different things. thanks for the video

  • 1 Person doesn't know what real music is.

  • Happy Mardi Gras 2011.

    Orpheus' America.

    Happy Ash Wednesday!

  • wonderful song <3

  • The production of this song is outstanding. Listening with headphones you really get the full stereo effect and hear that the strumming guitar and the vocals are centered in the song while the drums and bass are almost exclusively in the right and left channels respectively along with the organ and a lead guitar in the right and the lead acoustic in the left. It really gives a unique sonic experience once the other harmony vocals are sprinkled in. Absolutely spectacular.

  • I cannot believe that Paul Simon will be 70 this year!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no stronzate. bello tutto.

    good luck

  • They seem to be digging the Beatles a lot on this song.

  • Wonderful song - always felt it wasn't appreciated as much as others - it tells us a little about the time in which it was written and a sense of being 'lost' after all the post WWII certainty.

  • "This song explains why I must leave home and become a stewardess"

  • @bottledmagic fuckin loved that movie

  • @wertaslopey8 Hell yeah, it's amazing!

  • 1986/8/7being an AFS student in Belgium, listening to Simon and Garfunkel over and over again. Making friends from people all over the world...Going to Brussels together, laughing in the bus, playing games with the faces...

I have a happy life now after all but never have felt the same kind of happiness ever again.

  • LOL the lips dont sync with the words

  • great song !

  • this song is lovely

  • This was my favorite recording of all time when I first heard it in 1968. 42 years later I continue to have that opinion. The best lyrics, the best tune, the best arrangement, the best producition - this recording is perfect and has never been matched.

  • This song always makes me want to cry. I don't know why. It's so stirring.

  • I'm empty and aching and I don't know why

  • @notall3 Eat something! ;)

    Steve

  • @YCSMusic this song is a time capsule for feelings in the 1960 s not their most played but certainly my favourite thanks for posting

  • @YCSMusic Thank you so much. I remember looking out the window of my parent's car as a little girl and thinking I can't wait to go look for America. It's funny how the song gave me nostalgia and a feeling of poignancy about something I hadn't experienced yet.

  • Wonderful video; thank you!

  • And the moon rose over an open field.

  • This is the one I was looking for!

  • 0 dislikes. finally.

  • 0 disslikes ;)

  • The DJ on Absolute Radio put this song on accidentally last week. He meant to play "America" by Razorlight, but I'd rather have this one any day.

  • amazing - over 40 years old and still nothing compares these days.

  • just.. beautiful

  • excellent song by this duo,one of their classics.

  • I'm about to board a Greyhound in Pittsburgh! At 8:30 to be exact. :)

  • This song is a like a lovely short story.Paul Simon is a great storyteller.

  • Thanks for the great post

  • Oh my God, thank you for posting this version! I've been looking all over YT for it.

  • Simon y Garfunkel son grandes.

  • love it

  • It's not often you get a video with 0 dislikes. But this one is certainly deserving.

  • Their voices go together like peanut butter and jelly :)

  • Man, I love this song.

  • sono mitici e riscoprono la mia gioventu' con loro. grandi miticiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • only if we could get one more album from the two ....PLSSSSSS

  • I said "be careful, his bow tie is really a camera."

  • the year is 1967 not 1972.

  • @mobyboy The date refers to the single release in the UK. I'm aware that it's on the Bookends album released in 1968.

  • @YCSMusic 1972 : The song was on the top chart :) ( 20 th )

  • @mobyboy It becomes a big hit in 1972, but it was recorded in 1967 :)

  • @mobyboy It was recorded between October 1967 and February 1968. When the final editing was completed it was added to the Columbia Records Bookends Album which was released in April 1968. So released from the LP in 1968 is correct.

It was released as a single in 1972.

  • Cathy I'm I lost I said though I knew she was sleeping - I'm empty and aching and I don't know why. Sums up perfectly those times when everything in your life's OK, great even, but somehow you feel detached and low. A beautiful song
