Thanks for this! I saw Harold Jefta in Dizzy's club in Melbourne last week (guesting with Gil Askey) and he was great. I didn't know who he was until he was introduced afterwards but as soon as he started playing I thought to myself, "sounds like Charlie Parker".
@cardwell i was there too, simply amazing and a very humble man, just saw him again recently play at Dizzy and remembered me...a legend to say the least
This is a disgrace to the originals. When the horns come in at the very beginning why do they shoot out of the starting gate so bad? Learn to keep tempo, wanna-bes.
I'm quite sure that their playing was intentional. A disgrace to the originals? Maybe. But, this is a cover. That's really the beauty of jazz. You can take a song and interpret it in your own way. At the very basic level, take the swing feel. You don't have to exactly follow the triplet quarter triplet eighth feel to get a swing feel. However, I do think that this specific interpretation is lifeless. So in that sense, a disgrace to the originals. Rhythmically, not so much.
I had to look this up because beyonce did it! she sounds just like this!

Trumpeter John Donnell does a little Dizzy with the cheeks. Not as big as Dizzy's but getting there.
