dumb, if there were three pointers...the score would be entirely different and so they might not have even been up by one. guess you're gonna have to go back and watch every shot to see how many threes each team scored.
Chamberlain's pass at the 0:03 mark is one of the most egregious violations of an inbounds throw-in I've ever seen.
I mean, in hindsight, yes, you're glad because of the accompanying miraculous shot by West. But on the other hand, no player should EVER be allowed to get away with that.
@bubufubu his one leg is in the air ..other one outside the court and on the ground..i think it was fine..not sure if you are supposed to have both feet on the ground..
ClipCoug you are fucking stupid. Jerry West averaged over 46 points per game in the 69 final's, that is the highest final average ever by far.
That is why Jerry West won the finals MVP despite loosing the series. So... go out and learn some NBA history before stating your opinion as if it was a fact.
@beefycakes831 That's all well and good, but this shot was in the 1970 finals — game 3, to be exact. And the Lakers lost in OT, partly because West couldn't hit a shot.
Now, before you jump on *my* ass, I was a huge Lakers fan from the late '60s through the early '80s, and in particular a fan of Jerry West. But facts are facts.
Chelyan the home town of Jerry West in West Virginia should change their name to Jerry, West Virginia....they owe it to him they don't even have a statue or a "childhood home" or anything...they don't even have a street named after him! All they have is a tiny sign on I-64 that says "home of Jerry West"
AXtually 8 Final's. When he won his ring, Wilt was considered to be the leader. He didn't lead his team to a ring like just about any other top 10 guy (Jordan, Wilt, Bird, Magic, Kareem, etc... etc...)....and 0 MVP's....just the 1 Final's MVP that means the least out of any Final's MVP because he didn't win the title.
J. West should be in the top 10, but he doesn't have the rings or the accolates to do so. Great shooter, underated defender it's not his fault he only came up with 1 ring.
i beg 2 differ he is in the top ten , i mean wen u r the nba logo dat gives jerry recognition of how great he woz , he led the lakers to 9 finals , i mean wow sum players dnt even reach a final , but 9 and also the only player 2 win a the finals mvp being on the losing team , he woz great definent top ten
Damn. To bad the nba did'nt have 3 pointers back then. The lakers lost this game in ot then went on to lose in 7 games. At lest Jerry West got his ring in 1972 but he sure deserved more than 1.
Notice how Jerry reacts after hitting that shot. Doesn't start jumping up and down, acts totally nonchalant afterwards walking to the bench. That's the best part of this particle feat.
My dad was at that game, he said it was amazing, but what was a drag is that 10 years after that shot they came out with the 3 pointer and if they had that in there it would of been the most epic clutch of all basketball history.
ive seen this before and i slammed my head on my pillow in about 3 times because i was about to sleep... its so amazing but the lakers still lost in OT
If they had 3 pointers back then, the other team would have scored the 3 points for the ones they made during the game as well. It wouldn't be that single shot that was affected.
OMG, you are kidding. He had his right foot planted in bounds and his left toes out of bounds. He was more "in" than "out". No doubt, you're a Laker fan that can't accept the truth thinking that if you tell yourself enough times that he was all the way out of bounds that some day, THE HIGHLIGHT WILL PROVE IT. LOL
BTW - expecting a referee to make that kind of call in the last seconds is ridiculous...it's expected! That's what he's there for.
Keep telling yourself a lie, you might believe it.
I'm from Europe and I don't care about Lakers. You'll never see that kind of call in closing seconds. It's expected in theory, you're right but you'll never gonna get it. Especially in this case where it's really not an obvious mistake.
An opposite example where refs should make a call every single time no matter what is Lebron's travelling vs Wizards in 2006 playoffs
Yeah, I agree that it would be a perfect ballgame if refs would be able to make the right calls all night long but that's not gonna happen as long as they are humans. Besides that it's normal that their criterion in last minutes is very different than in the second quarter.
He and the Lakers made up for it in 1972. The longest winning streak in pro sports history (33 games). West hitting the game winning shot in that years All Star game (Played in L.A)And winning the MVP award for that game. and the Lakers went on to win the NBA championship to close out one hell of a year.
@msinthrop That is a GREAT standard in that streak and the W-L record of 69-13 was the standard for 24 or 25 years till Chicago broke it with 72-10 for the 1996 season and that ended in a championship for Chicago.
Great shot by West.....that was awesome...probably the first 3/4 court shot in the history of basketball. I do believe they lost that game though. Still that was a long range miracle.
just imagine if the 3 point line was invented

The shot should have never been allowed. Wilt had one foot still in and one foot out when he threw the ball to West.

Taymelo 4 years ago
Yeah, keep telling yourself that.
24Lancelot 4 years ago
The same stuff happens in every ballgame at least few times.
And, btw the mistake is not very obvious, Wilt stepped out of bounds and lifted his other foot and passed the ball at almost the exactly same time.
Expecting that referee will make that kind of a call in last seconds of the game is ridicilous.
