Ali's finest hour. Like everyone else, I thought Foreman would destroy him. Will never forget picking up the morning paper and seeing he had knocked Foreman out in the 8th round. From the first Liston fight to the exile in 1967, he was perhaps the greatest heavyweight ever. From 1971 on he was the bravest. I wish he'd retired after this fight.
Great series of vids, thank you. Ali had not only courage, strength and toughness, he was a consummate boxer as well as a master strategist. And all that's even without his ability to get under fighter's skins. I say these gifts would have made people like Jeffries, Marciano andDempsey, all supertough but not known for their skill, easy meat for him, just as Foreman was in the end. Funny from 3:40 - 3:46. King obviously "had George". Trying to sleaze in on Ali, he was viciously rebuffed.
also wich great people has david haye fought david haye best boxer next joke....manny pacquiao maybe the best fighter at the momment but hes nothing compared to the greats ali tyson frazier sugar ray robinson
@sislacs this performance was greater than Manilla because Ali was the underdog here,NOBODY expected him to win this fight,He had already beaten Frazier once and was expected to win in Manilla, this one shocked the world, manilla didnt!!
@onlyjoetee Most say the Cleveland Williams fight was his best performance, but I think the first Liston fight was his best fight. He was faster than a middleweight that night, not only on his feet, but the reflexes were phenomenal. Watch how often Liston missed with the jab, and Liston had an outstanding jab in his day.
@buckfan1969 Sonny Liston was a far better and much more dangerous opponent so i agree.Plus Williams was older and had been shot in the belly the previous yr,but Ali would still have beaten both of em anyway..
When I see this pictures i am still impressed of the speed of Ali´s combinations He is the greatest Champion the world had ever seen, and for all times!!
"...That lonely figure walking down to the dressing room is not Muhammad Ali, that is George Foreman...", David Frost is a very good English commentator.
Musta been great to experience that fight live, the only fight I can think of that comes close in my generation is when Holyfield beat Tyson the first time. But for me this fight along with his longevity is why Ali is the all time best heavyweight, no doubts. Great upload, thanks.
@boooyah9 Are taking the piss?? Hayes a good fighter but Ali and Foreman were great fighters... Can I have your dealers number cos your on some really good shit if you think Haye could have beaten either of these
I remember the first I saw this fight finding it hard to believe that this was the supposedly devastating, unbeatable George Foreman. I had never seen him fight before and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. For me Ali never looked like he was in trouble.
It was only later when I saw Foreman destroy Frazier for the title that I understood why people were scared of him. He looked a COMPLETELY different fighter against Frazier.
george was up at the count of 10 just like he said of course he still would have gotten ko'd but still he beat the count he should have asked for a rematch in 4 months but he couldn't handle defeat to handle defeat you go back to class make adustments and come back smarter and better physically! as for ali he should have fought like this for the remainder of his career-not dancing but up on his toes and beating people to the punch and doing more counter-punching! less traveling/morepunching
honestly look at the first and second part of this video, you can see that ali hits foreman but you can hardly see with which hand he landed the blows on Foreman,He is just too fast,
According to Ali and Larry Holmes was Earny shavers the hardest Puncher, not Foreman
Absolutely brilliant strategy! He knew if he could wear down Foreman, he could beat him in the later rounds. Trying to match power with Foreman would be suicide, but he knew better. One of the best moments in boxing history.
Ah if only Ali had quit after his last magnificent fight against Frazier a few years later. That would have been a perfect end to an amazing career. Or if he had even quit after coming back to beat Leon Spinks(who never should have won in the first place) But boxers never seem to know when to quit. Still, Ali was definitely the greatest; unbeatable in the 60's before they stripped him of his title and slower of foot but still incredible in the early 70's. An amazing man and an amazing fighter.
@MomoWBass Ha ha yes- his face drops like he's been punched. I'd love to know what he said to him. Brings to mind the only good part of Rocky V, when he levels the thinly veiled Don King character. 'Touch me and I'll sue' Smack! 'Sue me for what?'
WOW two great fighters, one with great skills and speed, the other a mighty puncher.i loved every mintue. thanks for the upload.WHAT A FIGHT.WHAT A FIGHT.
As you say, your gran--unlike Ali--never stepped into the ring but she has Parkinson's disease. My deepest sympathies for her welfare. BUT Ali fought more than 50 fights and got clobbered any number of times. My previous comment still stands and you like so many admirers of his...are in denial. He's punch drunk. Face facts.
Theres no scientific link between Parkinsons desease and boxing. Millions upon millions of people globally suffer from Parkinsons and have never been subjected to any form of physical abuse. I'm not an Ali admirer, just dnt think hes punch drunk thats all. He just an ex boxer who happens to have parkinsons desease. But what do I know eh ..........
(See, dear readers, how sensitive this issue STILL is? And how good people are still so passionate in their denial of the long term, decimating effects of boxing? )
@aquacave I'm not saying boxing can't lead to long term decimating effects in some individuals, I am saying however that of these individuals, Ali is not one.
Exactly flyboyprince1. That no good bastard DK's face says it all. He was hoping George would win,
But at that moment when Ali won will never be like that again. That was truly i think an act of God. The whole Africa thing, Ali's beliefs as far as the way things were back in the 60's with race, and when he saw how as he put it, "They (Africans)have a certain pride even though some live in ghetto conditions and seeing black pilots, leaders, doctors etc.
Fights like these are what defines timeless fighters.. when you could watch a fight of theirs thirty years later and it could still send chills up your spine.... god we need more fighters like these
