Each patch at the chain of 40 has a 1 in 200 chance of being shiny. There are four patches.

You do the math.

For those who can't, it is 1 in 50 total.

It depends. It can go by fast, or slow. A shiny patch can just pop out of nowhere. Usually people chain to 40 to get a shiny patch, though.

I quit chaining! Every time i try to chain itt breaks for no freaking reason!EVERYTIME!!!!!! I know im supposed to be pacient and i have at least 200 times. The pokeradar is pissing the crap out of me!!Please someone help!I want to chain but it never works!(obviously)This is what i do:

Make sure there are atleast 4 patches.

Go to the same patch of grass u started with and go to it if it is 4 patches away but dont go after it if it takes 4x3 patches to the patch.

Never leave the feild of grass.

try chaining easier pokemon 1st like bidoof or shinxs or a beduw etc.and if you are looking for an eletric type pokemon try getting a pokemon with static to attract them (pikachu) and for steel pokemon try magnet pull to attract them so it is less likely to break the chain(nosepass) and if the pokemon ur looking for is always a boy get a girl clefariy in the lead and keep a schter with false swipe on your team. i hope that helped =]

I've seen a few videos on chaining, and right before they go into the shiny patch, they ALWAYS switch to Abra / Kadabra. Why is this?

People switch to Abra/Kadabra because they have the ability "Synchronize" and when the pokemon sent out has that ability there is a 50% chance the the shiny pokemon will have the same nature as the one sent out.They only do this to get the nature they want.

Stop at forty normally, roby9112. You can stop anytime you want to reset the radar, but forty is the normal amount. at 20, you have a 1 in 409.6 chance to find a shiny, and at 40 you have a 1 in 204.8 chance to find a shiny. Anywhere between there you can stop and reset to find a shiny.

notice: MAKE SURE YOU DONT HIT TELEPORT INSTEAD OF SWITCH WHEN SWITCHING TO YOUR SYNCHNORIZER! I have done this after long awaiting a shiny eevee patch and I nearly threw my DS out the window 12 stories up! :D but then I went right back and chained eevee again right after and got three shiny :D

If you wanna know if your chain has a better chance of getting a shiny do this:

Get a calculator. Now divide your chain with 8192 cuz thats the 1 in that chance of getting a shiny. Ok now the answer is the chance of getting a shiny pokemon. Ignore the decimal. If its 40 its 204. and if its 20 its 409

It had the synchronize ability,makes it more likely for a pokemon to have the same nature as that one.

No, but it can make the shiny pokemon that they were looking for better, seeing as certain natures make certain pokemon better and whatnot...if you don't know what natures do look up a small guide on it or something.

Better to have a useful shiny than a useless one :P

Sometimes when I walk into a safe patch my chain breaks. Its in the 4th zone, not near the edge, not near another patch, and when I walk into it it has another pokemon.

Sometimes the safe patch has my pokemon and my chain still breaks.

Does anyone know the reason for this?

i know why DJ, maybe it was that the 4th patch was align not with a 3r patch next to it but maybe a 1st or 2nd patch this alters every patches chances of breaking your chain, so when this happens e.g 4th patch could be ok and 2nd patch could be safest or 3rd patch is the one that breaks your chain ... if peeps still dont understand pm PM me and il try to explain better

someone must trade you a machoke. it will turn into a machamp. OR if you have wifi, put it up for trade for like a lvl 100 staru. then go make a DIFFERENT trade for anything at all. After you have made a different trade, the pokemon you had up in the GTS for trade will evolve when you take it back.

Abra has the ability synchronize and if it has a nature you like the pokemon your going against in the wild has a like...%10 or %20 chance of having that nature ^^

He probably puts abra first because it has the ablility "Synchronize".

When you enter a battle, if your first pokemon has synchronize, the wild poke has a 50% chance of having the same nature of the abra.

Oh, and you'r method works well for me. I, however, like to combine yours and shukos. I still go for the #4's, but if the patch isnt also the furthest in steps, I reset.

I know, I'm too carefull, and go slow, but it works. :)
