He was a thug and he used murder and thug tactics to gain power. We sold him some weapons when Iraq was at war with Iran, but nothing else. Jeez, the Iraq war just ended and already you don't know what happened? You might be thinking of Iran. The US backed the Shah, but not Saddam. Do we join because of war? No. Nobody wants war. But soldiers (and sailors) don't have the luxury of choosing their wars. If we could, what war would anyone choose? We serve because our country calls. Period. We live in a smaller world than our founders did and we have interests to protect. It's just facts of life.

It applies to airport controllers, firefighters, teachers, managers, and basically everybody who works. Second of all, it's hard to ignore the fact that the majority of the country don't want any more mess with other countries that costs taxpayers' money and gives the people little in return.
