The '2nd cut' business discussed in the video @ 1:14 is a normal thing that is done everywhere. I personally toured a meat plant (another one) and saw a worker do that; I understood simply that he was letting out more blood. In other words, the ritual slaughter must cut through the vital organs, and, once dome, the animal is no longer alive. But there is much blood in a cow - imaging how many gallons! So this cut helps. Right after, they jack up the cow with the chain and the blood drains out!!!

PS: AgriProcessors are a meat packaging factory, they are widely known to sometimes be inhumane in their "Kosher" process. But that makes one slaughterhouse, there are several other slaughterhouses in the world, I have been to most of them and I can say that all are very human in their ways and that they are truly killing the animals as instructed by G-d and the best way scientifically possible. so don't think that all of the slaughterhouses are like this one. That would be a bad assumption.

I've studied animal physiology in a university setting for 30 years. The first cut severs the blood supply to the brain. The spine is intact and if the cut is surgically clean, the cow would just painlessly black out if held comfortably. This method violently slams the cows head back, which registers pain and the meat hook also registers pain. I am not jewish myself, but I do understand and respect jewish beliefs. I have been around the slaughterhouse industry my entire life as well. My father is a USDA meat inspector. I can tell you first and foremost that this process, even with 2 cuts to the animal is completely legal and kosher. The animal may not be dead after the first cut, but trust me, it will not live much longer afterwards. The second cut is done ONLY if the first cut does not completely sever the main arteries and windpipe.

Well that's what the whole controversy is about. I'm not Jewish, but I know that the kosher laws only allow for the least amount of pain be delivered to the animal. A second cut is excessive and inhumane according to those laws. These cows are all being slaughtered for kosher products. When Jewish people saw this they all retaliated and pulled contracts.
