  • MItzi is pure heaven and in that dress!

  • WOW!-IT"S DELOVELY!

  • If I ever saw a girl in a dress like that on the street I'd be forever hooked.

  • Donald and Mitzi are great together.

  • he pulled the chair closer! he pulls the chair closer!!! lol

  • Wow. Mitzi Gaynor. The reason women should return to wearing dresses. I think I'm in love.

  • they sound so amazing together! they dance very well together too (:

  • Beautiful Cole Porter song.

  • I always wanted a skirt that would flow like that.

  • My favorite part in my favorite movie. <3

  • @aukele68 You have excellent taste!!!! Donald is the BEST and the most ADORABLE!!! Check out my channel and those of my listed friends to see great clips from Donald's movies and tributes to him!!:)))))))

  • wow, that really IS lovely. watched a lot of these musicals growing up in the 90s. haven't seen this one, but this is a great scene! wonder what else i've yet to see and whether one lifetime is long enough for it all.

  • @Nilaratna Donald is fabulous - the BEST - it's from Anything Goes - 1956 - it's great!

  • AHHHHHH DONALD O'CONNOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Iceluver79 You are soooo right - LOVE fabulous Donald!!! Check out my channel with lots of Donald pictures and videos - and the other channels devoted to Donald.

  • we did this as a school musicall

  • I've always been a Donald O'Connor boy!

  • i want her dress. for prom.

  • Donald O'Connor is one of the great dancers of the fifties, sixties, and even earlier. He was wasted on the Francis the talking mule films. But he showed up in later musicals with Bing Crosby and Mitzi Gaynor.

  • If this is their version of "going for a walk," I want to see what their "going dancing" looks like...

  • @dappleddakota Good one!!! Love Donald!! How terrific is he!!!

  • i love her dress!

  • 8:05 do not try this at home kids! XD

  • ...they just don't make movies like this anymore--and that's pretty sad!!!

  • Now that`s deliriously delightful!!!!!!!!! and i`m a Fred and Ginger fan.......

  • I just feel RIGHT at home anytime I watch movies like this.. and I was born exactly 30 years later after this was made. The imagery itself is just so beautiful, if you pause it at any point .. it coulbe be a painting!

  • thats waist scares!!

  • @155altair I know! She's a living barbie doll. It's scary and awe-inspiring at the same time

  • Donald O'Connor was great. Mitzi Gaynor was great too!

  • What kind of dress is she wearing? I love it! What's it called?

  • @mags50free all the stuff back in the day was custom made. could be wrong.

  • @coolrelax82 You are correct! The great 8 time Oscar winner, Edith Head, designed clothes for the Paramount movies like this one. She made gorgeous gowns, dresses, etc. , but it is said she liked dressing men better. She must have loved dressing Donald. He looks gorgeous in this cream-colored tux ( it's not white - Bing's is white in the previous scene) and his other suits in this movie are fabulous! He was so adorable and super-talented.

  • I want her dress and a boyfriend like Donald O'Connor. THAT was a good breed.

  • @bridget117 Yes, yes! I agree! Adorable, Talented, Charismatic Donald! (Sigh!)

  • @bridget117 Definately! I can hardly find any boy to "crush on" after Donald. My expectations are too high after seeing how great he was!

  • AW720 They're out there, it's just that the gutter-snipes at the networks are dragging up all the filth they can find and hurling itinto our living rooms/theatres as fast as they can.

  • AW720 They're out there, it's just that the gutter-snipes at the networks are dragging up all the filthh they can find and hurling them into our living rooms/theatres as fast as they can.

  • All the greats are gone, Gene, Fred, Cagney, O'Connor, Thank God for youtube !!

  • Why can't life be a musical comedy?

  • @Kailoa36 That's a damn good question.

  • at 9:16 you can see the platform they wont down the pole on! haha

  • yes... they are very special entertainers - so joyous and heart warming. Did I say highly talented too? - I use the present tense because i feel they are still very much alive now...!!!

  • Oh they're amazing! She's so beautiful and he is amazing! The whole thing is just so graceful and I smile every time I watch them!

  • ah-may-zing. dress.

  • Lovely. I think sliding down a pole while kissing would be a really hard thing to do.

  • Holy crap! That set design!

  • How cool is that kiss! I need to see this movie.

  • I really love this number!!!!! Donald is so romantic and adorable. He's such a charismatic dancer, singer, and actor. And, by all accounts, the nicest and most modest man, too.

  • anybody know what key this is in? C?

  • She was so beautiful and her waist size seems to compare with Vera Ellen's.

  • Any guesses on her waist size???

  • besides the time period..where could i find a flowly strapless pink dress?

  • I want her dress!!!!

  • Donald O'Connor is charming/attractive here. I've never noticed that before -- when watching him with Gene Kelly (<--OMG) all the time

  • I think Cole Porter wrote this song overlooking "Bahía of Guanabara" in Rio de Janeiro.

  • This is my favorite musical and this is my favorite song from it. It's delovely!

  • this is just perfection

  • Even though I fell in love with Donald O'Connor for life (I mean that by the way) and Singing in the Rain is now my favorite movie because of it, he was just excellent in this. I could really see the contrast. When Donald dances...it is pure fun and none of the hard work is there on him. When he did Singing in the Rain, he was just so silly with 'Make 'em Laugh' and those silly faces of his and remarks of his, he really shows his romantic side in this. Beautiful. De-lovely, to be exact.

  • @Atemuthepower Try 'Call me madam' videos by turinethefool - Donald is even better there! 'What chance have I with love' is similar to 'Make 'em laugh', and there are some beautiful romantic dance scenes... Donald is excellent there! Believe me!

  • There's nothing special in dancing in high-heeled shoes - all ballroom women-dancers dance in such shoes nowadays. Watch some dance competition and you'll see.

  • damn that's one hell of a gurtle!

  • Were there people falling all over him at this point? Because dear God, this is amazing.

  • how on earth?! with heals?! lol

  • @Shatallion Was it a 'gentle' hint at my 'removed'? I'm not a native speaker, I may not know the proper words... But, what are 'heals'? I can't find the word in MY dictionary...

  • @catwomanpl1 "heals" are the tall, raised part of the woman's shoes. I was impressed she could dance so well with shoes like that.

  • @Shatallion Sorry twice! But the second 'sorry' concerns you - I don't want to hurt your feelings, but the spelling is wrong - it should be 'heels'. Sorry again!

  • @catwomanpl1 oops! haha! i am notoriously bad at spelling so this comes as no shock to me. lol no harm done. Now i have another word i won't forget how to spell. :)

  • @Shatallion Glad I could help you memorize it! :)

  • You know Donald O`Connor can dance when you find yourself watching him instead of her. Is it really possible for a woman to have a waist that tiny?

  • @JLIV461 I suppose so. But sometimes it's a rather painful 'achievement' - some actresses have their lower ribs removed! I hope it wasn't the case with Mitzi. Another actress/dancer with so tiny a waist was Vera-Ellen (allegedly, her waist was even tinier)

  • And the songs he recorded with Doris Day - 'No two people' and 'You can't lose me'? Oh my!!!

  • If only there were more movies like this now adays.

  • Donald is amazing and he will be remembered for ever

  • Donald O'Connor was so much like Fred Astaire and never got the credit. He made dancing look like fun while others, very good, made it look like work.

  • @onebaud SO so true...!!!

  • All the comments have to do with the dancing, but Donald O'Connor is the best singer of the big three - Fred, Gene, Donald. Fred and Gene were fine singers, but Donald's rich baritone is a step above them.

  • @drzarkov39 You're perfectly right! Gene's singing voice wasn't bad either, though not as good as Donald's,but Fred's was nice to listen to, but weak - many of us could sing that way. Have you heard Donald in 'You're just in love' from 'Call me madam' in a duet with Ethel Merman? Wow!!!!!! Here he's also wonderful. I could listen to him for ever and ever!

  • I love how he keeps scooting her chair closer to him. =)

  • I gotta say, I watched this for donald but I could not take my eyes off Mitzi. She's just so graceful and energetic and of course the woman is stunning obviously. Donald is better with the "sillier" acrobatic stuff, like when they're balancing on the ledge but I think Mitzi is the one that really shines here.

  • I want more movies like this!

  • wow! i had NO idea that there was a film of anything goes! especially with mitzi gaynor and donald o'connor! i saw the stage show a few years ago with john barrowman. i enjoyed it SO much! i need to get this on dvd. NOW!

  • Simply amazing!!

  • movies like this are amazing to me... people dont act or talk the way they used to or rather as it should be.. i cant go to the movies anymore without feeling cheated out of my money... classics like this are what the world should be about art and love respect and character

  • Who choreographed this? Lovely, but, why would the choreographer choose to give Ms. Gaynor a double saut de basque in heels? Both Ms. Gaynor and Mr. O'Connor earned Kennedy Center Honors.

  • In my opinion, the great thing about this is that this is pure. No voice modulation or anything. It's rare that you find people like this now.

  • I love Donald O'Connor - I always liked him best in Singing in the Rain :D

  • A girls dream, to dance like this, with someone as great as this. Wonder that dress is today?

  • I've always been a Donald O'Connor girl.

  • this is beautiful acting

  • Superb!....it doesn't get any better than this!... I've always thought that O'connor was the best of the best!...

But, for me, Mitzi doesn't have to dance or sing, all she's gotta do is just TALK with that gorgeous smile, and I simply Melt!...and, the rest is just icing on the cake!...

  • Ah! In the days when Mitzi could show her lovely neck. Sad tale of woe and torment! Why doth I feel the sudden urge to be Shakespeare?

Donald is the very best ever!

  • Such a beautiful dress!

  • 5:56 look at the lady! LOLZ i see london, i see france...

  • her waist is the tiniest ive ever seen

  • well...maybe you haven't seen Vera Ellen? :-)

  • Donald O'Connor was the most talented and engaging of all the song and dance men. He should always be mentioned in the same breath as Fred.

  • Oldkiesel: Absolutely right. I've mentioned him to people, and they respond with 'who?' And if I mention Fred Astaire, or Bing Crosby, or Sinatra or Kelly, they instantly recognize them. It's frustrating, seeing as he's one of my favorites.

  • Most people I talk to don't even know Astaire, Sinatra,Crosby or Kelly let alone Donald O'connor

  • Swordfish1929: True, absolutely true. I meant people older than me.

  • @swordfish1929 Then you don't talk to many people worth knowing. ;)

  • alas tis true

  • @oldkiesel I agree...

  • @oldkiesel And Gene Kelly.

  • they have completley changed the scene from the original play

  • Two things: 1. I love movies where tap shoes suddenly appear on people's feet!

    2. Aren't there people under those windows, Mitzi? They're getting an eyeful!

  • I just love Donald's dancing!

  • Donald and Fred are peerless. The tops.

So uplifting, natural, entertaining - and so difficult to define... But I'll try...

    Magical, maybe...?

  • Christopher Walken can tap really well... Just to throw that out there...

  • thanks a lot , even for a so sadly answer

    bye

  • still alive tip tap dancers as donald??

I've been so lucky watching him at a broadway musical years 75 in n.y.

  • He passed away in 2003. God rest his soul.

  • thanks, unfortunately i knew the lost, what i'm asking to myself if in the u.s. still new performers arising at same level. bye

  • Sadly, I have not seen any new U.S. performers that can tap dance at the level of Donald (or Fred A, Gene K, etc). Donald was part of the golden age of musicals and I doubt very much if we will ever seen any kind of tap dancing at his level ever again. :-(

  • I agree! Not only tap dancing but the quality of everything back then... haven't seen someone that can capture a dance on camera or choreograph perfectly to the music like Gene Kelly....if he were still alive today, his work would surpass anyone. I love Donald O'Connor as well, another great Irishman!

  • @AW720 : sadly i agree

  • @nannizurr Gregory Hines was also a great tap dancer, but unfortunately he also passed away in 2003. You may want to search youtube for old videos of his art.

  • thanks for sharing!

  • I'm so excited!! We're doing this musical at my school!!! :D

  • I reeeeeeeeeelly love Donald!!!

  • I cannot believe that I have never seen this musical.Guess I know what my new mission is.

  • This has to be my favourite number in this film. Actually, it's my favourite number period! And this is my favourite version. I love Donald, she's so funny and sweet. Mitzi's a doll!

  • Look at her tiny waist what is she an 18 or 16? Wow!!

  • For me, the two male dancers I most like to watch are Donald O'Connor and Fred Astaire.

    How about you...?

  • Gene Kelly and Gene Nelson are exciting to watch as well. ;-)

  • @thehbss Donald and Fred are great. They are built to be dancers. Watching the Genes who are slightly bigger, makes me hope that regular guys will break out in song.

  • @thehbss Gene and Fred but O'connor is pretty fun when Fred is just being a bit too smooth and I want excitement

  • They make it look so easy.........

  • I would be pulling Mitzi's chair closer too. She was really beautiful.

  • I love the chair gag. So sweet.

  • 7:20 sooooooo reminds of White Christmas!!

  • i sing this song all the time. ^.^

  • my favorite part:

    "Ted..."

    "Yes, Patsy?"

    "Won't Bill be getting worried?"

    "Bill who?"

    @ 7:20 haha

  • Yes!! When I first watched this movie I had a feeling he was going to say just that and I loved it!! :)

  • omg these movies are so sweetly innocent! ^^ *tries to kiss her* "No, we'd better not.. this is only our first night out." LOL if only teenagers thought the same way...

  • I love the subtle, pulling the chair closer.

  • omg hehe yeah! ^^

  • wooww.. wish movies these days could give the same kind of emotion. she is so feminine--her body, posture, grace & movement... and he is such a romantic. simply de-lovely...

  • So sincerely beautiful...

  • 5:29 Made me Melt, im sho Melting right now. D:

  • i'm in love with him. *___*

  • You wouldn't be the only one ;)

  • thanks for posting i just got the part of billy in our high school play

  • I realy liked this sshow, where did it come from?

  • Mitzi Gaynor and Donald O'Connor performed this musical number "It's Delovely" from the 1955 Paramount movie "Anything Goes" which also starred Bing Crosby, Phil Harris and Jeanmaire.

  • Thank you for telling me

  • 2:10 / 9:25

  • Mitzi is saying "I like trout fishing". :-)

  • i wish this version was more like the play.

  • Mitzi is beautiful and Donald is wonderful as always. They make a great on screen pair! :)

  • its 8:35 - 9:25

  • Yes! They were so involved in their first kiss that they didn't even realize that they were sliding down the pole !!!
