no it is not...it is awesome and spectacular in a tae kwon do ring but in a streetfight is shit...The bad thing is that is soo spectacular that makes you too confident.In streets you usually don't have the time or the space to land a good kick,and if you do,it must be a one hit KO.If it isn't you are buttfucked.Only low kicks,punches and grappling are most of times effective.In my experience MMA is the best in hand to hand combat and Krav maga is the best in streetfights in general

I am an American practicioner of Taekwondo. Living in America, the martial arts scene is dominated by wrestling, boxing, and MMA. I think people look at Taekwondo as a "weaker" martial art, since it doesn't introduce many takedowns. But kicking is probably one of the hardest things to do in ANY martial art. To pull off a kick and land it correctly and cause pain without having to stagger due to being off balance is difficult. Taekwondo - contrary to popular belief - is not an easy martial art.

well take bruce lee 4 example he was the best fighter in the world and he was trained in all forms of martial arts and then created his own. if the fight ends up on the ground u must know judo, standing you should know taekwondo and krav maga. learn to adapt to different situations by learning mutiple martial arts

Just watching this show you can see how different they teach taekwondo in Korea as opposed to America. In America most TKD schools are McDojo's wanting to make a quick buck and promoting unprepared students. This version of TKD actually uses punches and hand techniques as opposed to American TKD which is 90% to 99% kicking.

people say that delivering a powerful blow is all about skill.. well i say with taekwondo users like me rely on skill AND power both equaly. now how many people do you see that are able to splinter a 2 foot thick tree with a single punch without using a taekwondo tecknique.

@xposidenx karateka's, muay thai boxers, wu shu masters, shaolin monks this list is quite long there are alot of different masters in different styles that could do that with a single punch and taekwondo doesnt have any unique punch technique's only a few kicks that are pretty much unique but for the rest they took technique's from other MA and other MA took technique's from taekwondo aswell

@xposidenx yes it is retarted i have not ever done taekwondo ( other then a few lessons when i was very young)so i wont say i am a taekwondo blackbelt or something like that. however i do know how to kick because of my background in kyokushin karate and sanshou/kickboxing and some other martial arts that dont include striking. and my advice to taekwondo fighters would be to kick with their shins, still condition your feet ofcourse

@Javjean I doubt that's true. The average citizen likely doesn't know TKD or any martial art for that matter. It's probably the same likelihood of finding a black-belt in the U.S. From a respectable dojo, a black-belt takes years to earn and even if you're gifted or just determined, some places won't give it to you until you're at least eighteen, even if the only thing stoping you is your age (not that that's a bad thing, as some schools sell them away like carnival prizes).

@neutrino78x Well the problem is while ITF TKD is very powerful, because it uses more hand actions than just WTF TKD, it also uses techniques that count as "uncivilized" like biting, hitting vital organs, pinching etc. ITF TKD was developed by NK, to actually be used in battle fields, so it is much more dangerous for these guys to just learn in it couple days, and I don't think it will be very good to see them getting pinched and hit on the.....parts of body

I see these people dressed in red white and blued sparring gear throwing hundreds of Un-chambered kicks with improper technique entirely. Earned my black belt at a franchised Tournament style school I know what it's like to be able to do that, but let me tell ya It's USELESS they aren't blacking anything they're just swinging their legs. I respect that yes this is just a sport style and they are doing what they like but that stuff is useless on the streets . Traditional is the way to go.
