  • that was a really epic ending...that final shot is amazing

  • @2:52 "The rural people in China who under Mao were once pampered"?? Mao didn't "pamper" the rural people, he confiscated their grain, forced "collectivization" down their throats, stole their farms, and starved them to death in the worst famine in human history (between 1958 and 1962.) Mao also set up the internal passport system, people couldn't leave your native province without official permission for the party.

  • 97% of millionaires in China are the children of members of the CCP elite.

  • GAY

  • @Fuzzypanda110 YOU.

  • This makes me sick..

  • China is the worst place on Earth.

  • @asucme

    Fuck you, you stupid shithead.

    Fuck your shitty country.

  • @asucme

China has one of the worst *governments* on earth, its people are oppressed by the Communist regime. but this doesn't make the entire country bad...on the contrary i think people in China appreciate freedom a lot more than most Americans. Look at how many people risked their lives in Tiananmen square, and before that in the Democracy Wall movement. China is a great country. tragically its rulers are tyrants.

  • this happens everywhere!! not only China, God, why always against China WHAT DID WE DO??GOD!

  • @12345678922484 People are fucking ignorant .. Just ignore them :D Sooner or later they will shut the fuck up

  • God bless these people.

  • Injustice happens everywhere.

Worst of all in China can not even talk about it.

  • China's prison labor system isn't as cost effective as migrant workers? How much of a bottom line do these manufacturers want?

  • Comment removed

  • thank you for spreading the truth . god bless you in your continued struggles to reach out to the free world in hopes of an awakening of consciounsness.

  • @gbbbys

Without cheap labour, China would go collpase.

  • The migrant workers are not illegal workers as you state.

  • 5 dollars a day is that enough for his smokes

  • That is enough, though chinese worker get only 5 dollars a day ,the cost of living is low contrast with that of USA

  • I was in China in 2003. I took my cousin and his three nieces to McDonalds (my God, they love that fast food shit). The bill for 2 adults and 3 kids came to a total of$80.00, only about $10.50 in US money.

  • 1pound could buy 20 pags of cigarette

  • I agree that 5 dollars isn't enough, but a pack of smokes doesn't necessarily cost him more than 80 cents.

  • some very cheap smokes can be brought for 2 yuan or 30 cent usa

  • This vedeotape is fraught with false information and false interpretation!

  • So even if China does manage to pull itself out of economic failure they will still end up with a socially restrictive public system that destroys much of what grants Americans, Europeans, Japanese, and Koreans their happyness and enlightended social views. Smart people in China know that they won't ever be able to make good, books, scinema, or TV because of China's insipid social controls. Only debate and media that is totaly brain dead is allowed. They ban tons of great entertainment media.

  • Chinese people are in the dark about their nations failure to liberalize like the rest of the developing world, and don't understand that beyond their economic problems the social ideologies of Chinas leadership are what is part of what screws them. Chinese leaders are partially motivated to undermine economicaly fair development because they don't want to let go of their social enegineering powers, restrictions on media, and pride in their authoritarian system.

  • Using economically unfair practices is nothing new, and most of todays economically advanced nations used some degree of it to get to where they are now. What sets China apart, however, is that they actually embraced these practices as part of an ideology that demands that they not only become profitable but also undercut and screw everyone else by directing the market. This is because they have dumb ideological views about things other than economics that make them want to ruin other countries.

  • The worst thing about this is that since this cheap slave labor undercuts labor in places where people have political rights it damages the ability of nations who have or can do away with this kind of poverty from doing so. China's social and economic systems are even worse than most people think. But they can put pressure on people who have better ways of dong things by ruthlessness and lack of accountability.

  • These are created by foreign investments from advance industrial societies. After China developed to the current stage, it is now the time to investigate such scarify really cost. Chinese should really look out or invent a new way to avoid this for people their own or for worldwide developing countries. After so much manual experience, its now to use creativity from every individual intellectual brain power.

  • Let people have latest Info education which provide coverage of the entire civilization for the past and current. Dont get stuck by god naming, the so-called Intellectual Properties Industries of the west. They are so busy in covering up monopoly and blocking innovations. Let children build confidence for this challenge. It is desperately needed.

  • I tip my hat for these migrant workers , they work hard to improve their lifes and the landscape of China. They refuse to accept fate that they were born in poverty and determined to change their life with two hands. They are the backbones of China.God bless them and their children.

Also I thank the journalist who make this film. Good job and very soul touching!

  • the acutal pollution in China is just worse than what you see from the media reporting in the west! the smoke or smog in china is just choking u to death. seeing a blue sky in the west is common but where in china is a dream of prize; the river and streams in china are all so "colorful" with sthinky smells; the rural area of china is like garbage center, garbage are dumped everywhere by chinese villages, the poorest and dirties country iv been after African nations!

  • it has been confirmed that swine flu actually comes from Communist China. It does not surprise me at all because only see how dirty and polluted China is!!

  • see live video on how illegal Chinese immigrants get caught by police in Japan!

search the phrase: "Japanese police chase down illegal immigrant"

  • Chinese worker work hard to earn their money in order to provide for their children a better education and life. But unlike western, most a teenager don't give a shit a education because they get "free money" to do the shit they want such as party and drugs. They throw their free education into toilet. So, please don't insult these Chinese migrant workers.

  • firstly, who has told you young teens in west dont give a shit about education? you seem to forget that the west is leading ahead on technology innovation and this is done by well-educated labor force in the west;secondly, you seem to forget that chinese goverment invests only 1.5% of the GDP into your education where the west invests over 50% of GDP into education. cant u see why your migrant workers children dont have eudaction? because your government does not give a shit about them!

  • you don't even understand the point that I'm trying to made. it's useless to discuses these issues with you.

  • these chinese migrant workers have to work their ass off in order to make a living. they have no choice, becasue they are born in china where is poor and goverment is corrupted! those chinese immigrants in west are the lucky ones who managed to get out china and live in rich countries. what about u go overseas and check out how is life like in a rich country. u bet you will never want to return to china.

  • I know because when I first came to the UK, based on my maths skills, I could've easily skipped primary school and went to high school. The reason I didn't was because of my English - which needed improvement. See? Chinese students coming to America or UK need to at least skip a year because Chinese education is actually far ahead, like Indian and other education systems. Just because you were still taught 7 times 8 in primary school doesn't mean Chinese students didn't learn algebra already.

  • I have been told young teens in west don't give a shit about education, because I learned with them when I was young, and they really don't care a damn about how much their parents did for them. Wonder why under-age drinking / sex is still growing in the west?

  • i live in America, and that is why i know most of the westerner don't give a damn for education.

  • having said that, people in china are too poor to have a good education. besides, the entire education system is china is 50 years lag behind the world standard. well, ur goverment has earned heaps of tax from the sweatshops across the nation, has they invested enough to keep you people in the school??

  • Oh wow, sorry "people in china are too poor to have a good education."? Then how come the top universities - Cambridge, Oxford, Havard - are all giving funded scholarship to Chinese students to study at their halls? Hmmmm ...

You know, if you take two kids of same age - one from the west, one from China - and compare their IQ, Chinese kid would actually be higher.

  • likewise, the education institutes in UK are way more superior than the ones in China. is the west where gives a second chance of studying to those chinese students who left their hopeless nation where is under the government of brutal communist regime. if u have so much to bitch about china, what about u take time to pray for the souls of ur suffering countrymen over there in china.

  • Haha it's funny how you think you're superior to everybody else. We Chinese managed to outrun the Egyptian / Roman / Greek and whatever ancient civilizations and stuck on mother Earth for 5000 years already, we just don't want to brag about it.

Beg you pardon but even if you offer me a scholarship to Oxford now I'd still refuse, why? Because I hate seeing racists like you bragging on the net about how superior you are to everybody else.

  • I'm sorry but i'm morally obliged to tell you that there are both rich and poor people in this world. this is a subjective fact. but dont blame people for their being poor as long as they are trying to live. there are always problems in this world and sometimes nobody is to blame for that. this is society.this world is complex. if anybody cares so much about this, he should do some real good things for these people rather than argueing with others uselessly.

  • but i am sorry to tell you that the discussion remains in the poverty in China. as long as poverty in china is concerned, the problem is not simple, there is an immense rich and poor gap in china where a minority people holds most of wealt, previlige and power and the rest of billion poeple are starving to death. this is what happening in china and if u tell me this is ok, well, ur country is gone for good!

  • emmmmm, one question. have u ever lived any in china? ok or, have u ever been to china? technicially, like "there is an immense rich and poor gap" or something is definitely not talking about china, whose system cares much more about the poor than the rich. but i have to assure u that there are gaps between them in every country and even the world . And we have to consider the huge population in china. anyway, it's not what u have to wory about. Relax please . Relax

• one question, have you ever lived in any developed country? if u havent, i suggest you to do so. see how the people live in there, how the poors are well-taken care of. u will then wake up from your dream of so called " Chinese socialism rocks"!!

  • I'm sorry i'm in the US now and living with a homestay family which are nice. So i hope u dont take what i said personally and get over it. anyway let's just stop this pointless talk here. life is good. there r many other good things to do. take care~~

  • wow..all this humiliation within chinese.why dont chinese people fight for their rights?

  • What the heck??! "why dont chinese people fight for their rights?"

Alright, first, you have no right whatsoever to tell what Chinese or the Chinese government should or shouldn't do - China's not messing with your life, why are you messing with China's?

  • Second, I happen to be a Chinese, and I'm enjoying staying in China very much, thank you. Surely you don't buy whatever your TV tells you about China, do you? I acknowledge China's faults, but do you acknowledge some stuff you seen on TV about China are over-exaggerated and some are just downright lies?

Once the west said China blocked Youtube, right? Oh, I'm Chinese, living in China, but I'm on Youtube! Is it magic?

  • you probably happen to be from a wealthy chinese family living in your dad`s comfort.i bet there are millions of chinese people whose lives have been ruined just for your comfort living.you cannot just dismiss all these poor chinese as if nothing bad is happpening within your community.I know that chinese goverment is doing it`s best to get the balance right .you might turn blind eye on this issue but truth is always there.

  • You think I'm some wealthy lucky guy eh? Ha! You can't be more wrong!

My mum worked harder than anybody else to get that fees-only scholarship fair and square and had to take several jobs at the time just to feed herself. Then dragged me to the UK when I was young. She stayed there for the years required to get the permanent residence visa - not just some immigrant worker, she got the visa because she have worked harder than any of the rest and deserved the god damn visa she finally got!

  • You think all the Chinese students in the west are from wealthy families? Their IQs are higher than yours and that's why they got accepted into unis while you haven't! Don't you DARE even think we got where we are because of money!

It's just like the Olympics - China won more medals and some say Chinese athletes cheated - just sore losers that's all.

  • i really do not see why western media constantly focuses on chinese migrant workers. i live in malaysia, and we have migrant workers from indonesia mostly, filipinoes, laos, myanmar, bangladesh, etc. and in america, u got mexicans, basically ppl from poorer countries in search of a better live (more money).

the point is that they feel that they are improving their family's life, and its the right thing to do.

they can always head home to the village but that would often mean more poverty.

  • This documentary has some mistake:

The migrant workers are legal, but everyone needs to register himself at local government if he keep staying in one place other than his homeland for too long time ...apply a new ID ... register the address, and employer. If they don't register, that make them illegal. This law normally nobody cares, but once they break other laws, or some other special reason (Olympics) this can be a reason to send them back. If they keep legal status, nobody can touch them

  • This is reality. Keeping the wage low ... China can create huge amount of job opportunities. If Chinese raise the wage ...guess what will happen... less exports, fewer factories, fewer jobs.

  • the move is legal.

  • I have a whole new outlook on these hard working migrant Chinese workers. They have a drive and a will like no other to make a future for the one thing that is most important to them. They're children. Awesome!

Like jacacues said. They are happy with very little. Impressive.

  • Bravo Chinese workers ! Such courage and stubborness and fighting spirit !

  • It is just amazing how hard these people can work and feel happy with so little. It makes us shameful for complaining for all that we have and yet continue complaining. We certainly need their philosophy: Zhi Zu Chang Le (Laozi).

  • This is GREAT!!! Migrant workers are mistreated in China, moving from rural to urban areas. A very sad truth. Thanks journeymanpictures for uploading the video. This helps understand the stories of float workers.

  • hats off to his spirit at 1:14

  • i was trying to find something about the great depression which is a story completely has nothing to do with chinese

dammmmmn since when migrant worker becomes a chinese word

  • sry I made a mistake I found out the photo i was searching for is called "migrant mother"

  • The migration of rural Chinese to urban areas is the largest mass migration in the history of the EARTH. Literally over a 100 million have made this trek. I think that constitutes high priority in the "migrant worker" search engine.

  • Migrant worker is not a Chinese word. It is a global word. There is nothing wrong with your search except that you want to narrow your search by adding which year and which region you want information on.

  • How the heck can the west criticise China so much?

Just because the west advanced in their industralisation and China lacked behind because of the colonisation era now western countries got an advantage over us, and now you're using your lifestyle as a guideline of human rights?!

Look at it! China lacked behind is because you lot mobbed and colonised us in the 20th century! Now you blame us for we being "not at your level"?

  • So thin skinned. The west has been criticized since time immemorial. They've had their leg pulled so much it's ingrained into thier societies and free speech. Chinese are just used to being told what the state controlled media wants to hear. So no criticism, nothing that makes the government look bad basically. So when you come out here, on the free internet, you people freak out that someone dare criticism you. Thats what happens when u step out of the bubble.

  • Haha yeah right, all human beings have a brain, and we can think for ourselves, why on earth do you think Chinese is so different to you? You think your media is all pure and unfiltered?

If there weren't any complaints, why would corrupt individuals be dragged out one by one every day? If nobody even bother complain in China, how the heck can the country run smoothly? You think Chinese people are so dim, but while they might be laughing at how little you actually know about China.

  • Never claimed ours was "pure" as you put it, just not state controlled. We have many and varying opinions voiced on our air ways. I did not call them dim, all i did was criticism how, to use a chinese media phrase, "reactionary" your response was to criticism. Blame someone else, blame someone else, of course because problems cannot be the from your own making. I know some people get caught in china, and i know protestors dont really get to protest, like during Olympics.

  • My point is, you dont react to someone saying "wow you over react to criticism" by then over reacting.

And i repeat i dont think the chinese are "dim". To counter anything, its best not to make stuff up. I went to bejing for the Olympics, studied china, i heard people repeat the slogans of the government media. and it was interesting... to say the least. I know you're proud, as u should be, but criticism only helps make a system better because it lets it recognize it's faults. Get thicker skin.

  • Note I didn't say China was all great and godly either, corrupt and improper ways still run deep in Chinese politics, one of which is giving gifts to higher rank officials to please them, and this is even accepted as daily practice.

But don't you get angry when somebody over the internet shout racist comments at your birth country? You didn't, but many did.

  • It does upset me, but i know those racist people are idiots. I brush it off.

  • I'm glad you're seeing this from a neutral point of view and I can't say I'm unbiased either. But you can't say you haven't seen one single racist remark on China or the great interference into Chinese politics. China is a growing child and need encouragement, if you criticise it too much the child will do something irrational. But then ... parents shouldn't control their kids this much, and since when did the west have the power over China?

  • China has been a sovereign power for most of its 5000 year history. It is only with the british in the 1800's and japansese in the 1900's that china had it rough. Besides those bumps in the roads china has always been a powerful nation. in the 1050's China was able to bring my home country the US to the table in Korea.

I am glad we both awknowledge that every country has problems.

Interesting comment about child/parent. i will have to think about that.

  • his is the Painstyle *gg*

    SPAAAAAAAAAM XD

  • "It's illegal for the rural population.."

I think this is true maybe 20 years ago, not in 2005. There are certain paper works these migrant works have to go through to legally stay for a relatively long time in a city.

Also you won't get into jail because you buy a ticket from a black market. The seller may get into jail though.

  • Also I think you've been harassed by the police during the making of this video because you didn't get a permit.

I wouldn't say this video is seriously biased,

but there are some inaccurate parts.

  • Mao wanted (and he was a FREAK) to make everyone equal so all are treated well, He did not do this...in fact Mao made it worse...look for someone better.

  • at Mao time chinese accually live a happier life, but today because of some rich getting so rich and poor getting so poor that now life is nothing but CHAOS

Lots of Westerners say Mao is BAD but i think hes the best

  • Chinese will be powerful, their above average children out number the that of the west. But the west is so powerful. Why?

  • 400million americansand 850million europeans. so who out numbers who? besides in 20yrs half of all chinese will be over 50.one child policy 2 children 4 parents.who do you think own most of the companies in china not the chinese they are to busy selling their souls.this growth is in spite of the noncommunistcapital party of murderous, greedy thugs. china will be a big polluted mess. america, europe and japan unpolluted.some prize. america grows1/2 the worlds food and china to polluted grow food.

  • China 1 child only applied to Han Chinese, it does not applied to the Minority chinese, the Minority chinese can have as much baby as they want, but the Han are far more richer than minority chinese and when they want more than 1 child they have to pay a fee to have 2 child and if Han chinese want 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 child then the fee will continue.

  • China is soo overated!

  • America and India is soo gay!

  • The government has been suppressing the Chinese peasants for decades. What bothers me is that Mao came to power on the backs of the peasant class and now the peasants are the least fortunate people in the country. One of the worst insults is to call someone a "peasant." We all want China to rise responsibly but they treat the peasants absolutely terribly. If you don't believe me, go live in the countryside and see it for yourself!

  • not disagreeing with you but consider how difficult it would be to manage 2.4 billion ppl with limited resources, its a logistical nightmare. now there's alot of things i'd change about the cpc but some things, like the state of the state of the working class, may just be a harsh inevitability. just throwing that out there

  • I was raised in a chinese family and my father always tell me that peasants of china are the most honest, hard working people in china. It is the backbone of the economy, China is nothing without them. As far as I'm concerned they still are. I'm sure I'm not the only chinese that thinks this way.

  • twothings a country cannot survive without. farmers, and soldiers. the rest are just there not caring about squat while the farmers work their skins off and the soldiers put their life at stake.

  • haha good point

    point taken

  • You really should look at Chinese law and policy before you make such baseless claims. Show us where in Chinese policy the statement allowing people to have more than 1 child if they are born after 1980! If that were true, that would mean a great number of people in China would no longer be under the 1 Child Policy and the government made it perfectly clear that they are not doing away with this policy. You also know little about your country.

  • agree

  • This video speaking is fucking stupid.

Go to jail just for buying a "Black market" ticket?

Why is it illegal to buy a ticket off another person who chose to give it up for personal reasons? In other words, if i have a movie ticket but I dont want to watch the movie, why cant I sell it?

  • People are not giving up tickets because they don't want them! They are most definitely selling them to make a profit. Or at least the vast majority are and if you're Chinese and have ever lived in China you would know that to be true. But I do agree that the person would not likely go to prison.

  • They didn't hug cause the camera is there!! jeez, sometimes i feel that foreigners don't know anything about China, but at least they try, also now in rural areas you can have 2 children and people born after 80's in the cities can have 2 children.

  • not ture!

  • I studied this *Hukuo System-Strict residency requirments under this system, which binds people to their place of birth. I guess the system is still in place. This is bad goverment doesn't know what its doing.
