Global warning, whether true or not, we should still get off our oil dependance. More use of renewable energy, wind and solar would bring bring the price down, making the payback period shorter and shorter. In areas of decent wind supplies, a wind turbine could pay for itself in 5 years. After that, for as long as it lasts, its gravey. We have been paying middle east countries to use their oil, where they can, and have, used that money to fund terrorists.

His degree isn't what makes him an expert; it's his level of education in it. He's been known for years as a popularizer in science, and in order to do that, he's got to be incredibly well informed in scientific matters. He's a natural teacher, hence the show he had.

He's not an expert on climate change; he just knows what the facts are, and what the research has indicated, and one of his many fortes is public speaking.

Oh, and he didn't get paid. He does stuff like this a lot.

And again, I really must emphasize that global warming has nothing to do with politics; it was postulated by scientists in the 1950s, and the research since then has pointed towards not just the accelerating pace of warming of the Earth, but to a human cause for it. With that hypothesis in mind research has focused on a cause for it, and humans are the only real plausible cause.

Politics only comes into the equation when we legislate based on the good science of global warming.

Correlatory and causal relationships have been well established in the scientific literature between human technological advancement (and output of certain "greenhouse gases") and accelerating heating in the Earth's atmosphere.
