I mean, he is really close to (and really possessive of) Watson, but there's never anything overtly romantic. In the original stories - Holmes is a bare fisted boxer, a drug user, eclectic and eccentric with a fierce loyalty in a very domestic way. A lot of literary scholars debate that Holmes may have been an autistic spectrum savant. I feel this was a truer representation than most of what I have seen.

Richie ruined the whole feel of the Sherlock Holmes saga;

Without ANY gimmicks the Jeremy Brett series was a class act and had a solid run wheras this film was just contemporary bullshit forced onto the character.

Downey's accent was all over the map. He's a clown compared to Brett.

That Richie ever was allowed to make a film again after he ruined the remake of Swept Away is a crime. The guy has no clue...all pub crowd pleasing baloney.
