  • Fiber rules

  • I got 20 mbps and unlimited internet.

  • my dsl provider gives me 5.00Mbps- 1 MegaByte Download but the upload speed jitters from 0.24Mbps- 1.30Mbps but i am very pleased with my ISP considering i live in a rural area.

  • this morning i went onto BTs website and out of intrest i clicked on "check your speed" and firstly entered my address, and then entered my neighboors address, and Bt predicted that I should be getting between 1.0 and 2.5 mb broadband speed, however they predict that my next door neighboor should get between 1.0 and 5.0 mb speeds? why is my neighboor getting faster speeds than me when we both live the same distance away from our telephone exchange?!?

  • DSL sucks ass.I'm trying to convince my dad to switch to cable. Just to watch a two minute YouTube video on DSL takes 5 minutes to actually load.

  • okay i had dsl 3 mbps switched to time warner got 10 mbps for the same price as my dsl and they said i would only get 10 mbps only and i get 20 mbps never charged my extra and its been great cable is way better than dsl dsl service sucks if you live in a bad place

  • :Yeah, I didn't think DSL was an actual match for Cable speeds, but apparently a lot of things can go wrong with Cable like where you live and shared lines, etc.. All that shit matters sometimes it's slower than DSL...

  • I have DSL, and it's really bad for playing online games. Every single game I've played online has a terrible lag, which I don't remember having before I switched to DSL.

  • I have DSL and I am very happy with what I have! 7mbps is fast and it doesn't studder what I watch movies through Netflix on it! DSL is the best, I am not on a shared line either. I do have my own wireless network and everything is connected perfectly!

  • im changing from at&t dsl to comcast cable, was it a good choice?

  • @Elite2014 Comcast sucks!

  • @Elite2014 dont listen to theangryamericanwon. comast is very good. hes just sad because he has at&t

  • @FailGameProductions

    What's comast???

  • I have been using DSL for years, but the connection use to drop out. I now use cable, and it seems to be relatively stable.

Years ago, an ADSL 521kbps connection was enough. These days, people complain that 30 mbps is not enough. Twenty years from now, a 1 gig connection won't be enough.

  • thumbs up if you hate dsl.. i know i do...

  • I hate dsl, mine disconnects every time the phone rings, most other people I know have the same people.

  • @REPOMAN24722 you need a filter on every phone line. With out one, the signals with conflict with each other.

  • @exile341 I have 2 filters, I have tried everything the ISP says i need a central splitter and it costs $300 to install, i cant afford that so im switching to cable, also there is static when i talk on the phone when the internet is on.

  • heroes tv show in the background :D

  • @TheGoldenSpoon Not true. Even on DSL you're sharing resources with 20 to 50 other people.

  • lol at turtule

  • @TheGoldenSpoon chec out vdsl it is almost perfect

  • Comcast provides me 15mbps. My internet gets really slow in the afternoons until the morning. Is 15mbps good? should i upgrade? its REALLy slow i can't stream videos or play games really well. Help!!

  • @MaxCheesy Actually 15MBPS is ''MegaBit Per Second'' which is about 1.9MegaBYTES or 1900Kilo Byte Per Seconds 15MBPS=1.9 mb/s

  • I can only get dsl.

  • And another thing, the shared line isnt really an issue with most people because in reality most basic low end packages for cable internet providers supply around 10 megs and 1 meg upload, in reality its probably more like a 12-15 avg. So even if it slows down in peak times, you still got like at least decent speed of 6-10 megs. The flip side of slow down peak times is at times when few people are using it like around 10pm-6am, then you get a lot more like 5-10 megs more than what your paying.

  • @TheGoldenSpoon I just recently switched to cable after having a miserable time with DSL in my area for the last year of service, and what most people wont mention is the fact that DSL has a lot more variables in place in order for it to work properly, especially with the quality of the line and interference from phones, alarm systems, stupid wireless 102 and blue tooth and electro magnetic fields from all kinds of electronics. Cable solved my problem, few times have I been disconnected. period.

  • i was told for gaming ping dsl is a lot better then cable and dose not lag as often.

  • @sithsideus WRONG!, ping is only relative to the distance of the server you are testing, for which little of that matters for cable, as for DSL distance does matter greatly, just think about it, a thin old copper phone line, vs a thick, healthy, cable line. I get a ping of 10-50ms depending on the server I test with my cable provider, the 50ms is from Miami to Atlanta, and I have tried Miami to D.C before that it was 100-150+ms. Also cable usually has a lot of upload speed, usually more than 1mb

  • @SSSDiaz7 your reply is vary late and angry for my comment that says "i was told" no need to shout my angry friend, anyways in this long time i have found that cable is better as long as u go with a smaller company other then rogers or shaw whish is clearly overpriced.

  • @sithsideus im not angry my friend, and thanks for the feedback and quick timing.

  • Great Asian women for you ***lushfmlk.info***

  • I have a question, I always have cable for my internet...(me and my bro split a 10mbits)

but recently I discover that my nearest dsl station was only 400meter Away from my home...

Dsl seen a lot cheaper ,unlimited and no contract...

SO do you thinks dsl will give me a good service ,if im 400 meter away from the station??

  • @jimprice09 yes

  • Come baby Asian ladies #lushfmlk.info#

  • cable, DSL in Germany is only one word: nothing... maximum bandwith is 12000kbit/s

here "Kabel Deutschland" the main cable ISP uses eurodocsis 3.0 with 125Mbit/s download...

  • lol....is this ryan moody????

  • cable any day for me 50 mb and dsl u fix to a max bandwith

  • DSL is faster period. Especially if you live in a crowded area like me (L.A.). I used to have DSL, never had a problem, then the owner of the house switched to Cable, just to have one bill only (with TV, Phone, etc); now it's shitty, especially on weekends, it slows down so much, very laggy. The problem is that cable "shares" its connection, DSL does not!

When they say Cable is "19 times faster than DSL" as on TV ads, is misleading, they talk charts, not actual FACTS!

  • No, it isn't faster period.

  • Yeah cause just stating it, it makes it true (not) :)

  • DSL isn't faster. It often maintains a solid and steady speed due to individual dedication but this varies on location. Cable has raw speed but it's not defined nor dedicated. It's irrelevant because, more often than not, the cable connection is uninterrupted so you get steady, fast speeds.

I've had both and they both have their positives but cable is faster. That's the way it is. I'm sorry that you're disappointed.

  • @lordsorgo aww i have DSL

  • In my area I can get up to 100 Mbps calble and only up to 25 Mbps DSL from what I know and also the fastsést cable provider (UPC Austria) is known for really delivering the advertised bandwidth at all times (which works well for me, but I only have 25 Mbps, because 100 Mbps is too expensive), which is normally also the case w/ DSL, but I heard, that sometimes the DSL-bandwidths can drop to about 75% of the maximum.

  • why us fails in coverage both cell and broadband compared to more advanced countries. Cable here is like 8mb, dsl 3mb

  • well, Cable is now eating dust since DSL is now in the past and the phone companies that offer DSL are offering High Speed Broad band. I now have 6Mbps downloading and 2Mbps uploading, unlike ROBBERS (Rogers Cable High speed) is only 3Mbps downloading and 60kbps-1Mbps uploading. Screw Rogers Cable in Canada and go with Bell. They are fastest and Rogers is only a bunch of false advertisers and ROBBERS!

  • bell sucks I've benn with bell several years now they're slow only 50 to 70kb per sec and the light goes from green to red alll the time.Call customer service and an indian guy teels it's maintenance and I have to wait 48 hours.I can't wait till Im an adult so that way I could go with Rogers. After high school I'm gonna go work for them that's if they accept me.

  • hahahaha

  • I have both - 15Mbps cable, and 2Mbps DSL. They are both the fastest package available in my area. Why both? My cable provider is completely unreliable and goes down about once a week. I "fail over" to DSL :)

  • @doug65536 So whats better Dsl or cable??

  • depends on your type i use dsl its good enough for me

  • @Thet3 I don't think you can make a full generalization about which one is better. A rule of thumb I can give is: cable tends to have higher throughput and higher latency, dsl tends to have lower throughput and lower latency. If I had to guess, I'd say cable would be "better" for downloading large files, dsl would be "better" for online gaming. That is just a rule of thumb though, you'd have to try both to be sure.

  • @doug65536 HA! great for online gaming my ass! some of my friends that have comcast get WAY better connection than me, when im playing cod with my friends I ALWAYS lag out unless I get lucky, and when I do get into a game, I get a 1,2,or 3 bar, never full unless its late at night when nothings on but my xbox.

  • @BoyGamer100 You should contact your provider about your issues. In my experience, and based on how cable and DSL actually work, I found what I posted to be true. You could find the opposite to be true, which is why I warned that you can't generalize which one is better.

  • I'm testing right now 10mbps from cable against 5mbps of DSL. To my surprise and downloading a 290mb file, DSL took 5 mins and Cable (with double the speed) took 27mins. This was during peak hours. I can download to a steady 500kbps in DSL, but cable goes up and down from 87kbps to 127kbps. For me DSL is better, it's true about the distance restrictions for DSL, but at the end your bandwidht it's yours, in Cable as soon as you go outside your house your bandwidht it's been afected by other users

  • In most areas cable is better.

  • @CosmicPowerz and in most areas DSL is better!

  • I use AOL 8MB broadband ADSL

  • best internet in the world is in Cambodia with ADSL speed up to PACKAGE BASIC STANDARD DELUXE Speed (Download/Upload ) kbps 384/384 512/5121024/1024 Usage (MB)Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited Installation & Setup Cost ($) 50 50 50 Equipment ($) 100100 100 Deposit ($) 338 388 788 Monthly Access Fee ($)338 $388 $788$
  • wrong, the best right now is FiOS and CABLE modem by Optimum. and they are in the USA. DSL does not even come close to any of those titans!

  • @PoliceCadet84 isn't FiOS DSL??

  • true but dsl is more dependeble

  • I'm on Virgin Media cable broadband in the UK and I get 9.5 out of my 10Mb download speed 24 hours a day.

  • DSL is the best because with cable anyone can easily Hack your internet and suck up your bandwidth for their own benefit leaving you with 20kb to none internet speed.

  • Thanks!

  • The best Cable Internet in the USA is CABLEVISION Optimum Online.

    their speed are -- $50 Basic = 15Meg/2Meg --

    $60 Boost = 30Meg/5Meg -- and $95.95Ultra = 101Meg/30Meg

  • cable internet vs satellite internet

  • You said Cable Advantages instead of DSL Advantages at 2:25.

  • I pay about $60 and my donwload is about 32Mbps and my Upload is about 5.2Mbps. I have Optimun Online, and if i get ultra they say that i can donwload at 101Mbps and Upload at 30Mbps, hard to believe though

  • wait wat plan from cablevision internet do u have cuz i have the basic and it states that im supposed to get 15/5

  • In order to download at 30Mbps you need to get Boost. is an extra $10 a month if you have the triple play. if you are only paying for internet Boost will cost $15 extra a month

  • i think they lie about their speeds they say you can download at 15mbps but it's really 1.5mbps when downloading a file

  • 15mbps is your connection and it's the max amout of download speed you can get. 1.5 mbps is just how fast you can access the server. The farther away the server, the slower the download.

  • Well 15mbps is definitely not bad.

  • If you downloaded a movie from a server that was right next to you, you would probably get that 15mbps.

  • No you would get 1000mbit

  • What does 1,000 MBPS have to do with 15 Megabits?

  • @CosmicPowerz I have a 12megabit connection and I download at up to 1.5MegaBytes. There are 8 bits per byte.

1.5 mega bytes * 8 bits per byte = 12 mega bits. Make sense?

  • Can I borrow your Internet?? Ill be jumping around if i get that speed

  • Ha ha ha, yes you may borrow it. if you come to the USA in NY in the Bronx let me know if you are buy i will give you my Wifi Wep key. Dual Band Router by Linksys WRT600N ^_^

  • well in my country i pay like $15 for my dsl and my max download speed is 30kbps

  • wow, my analog dial up modem goes faster LoL.

  • my friend used to have cable. but now he doesntbecause his internet was too slow and he payed too much.

  • Nice work. keep it up. mean time come for social media marketing for esteembpo**com erfsdf

  • I'm from Australia so I get shit a shithouse connection. I have DSL and I get 180 kbp/s max. This is for Like $70-80 a month. I was wondering if going to cable (which is cheaper and apparantly faster) would be worth it or not.

  • KsEngag3d: Yes. Cable is nearly always better, but where I live, it's kinda expensive, and DSL is only £10 ($20AUD) for 16mbit/768kbit (soon to be upgraded to 20/1.3 apparently) and it's pretty stable so we use DSL, but if you can get cable cheaper and faster, go for it!

  • oh my god dude that is fast i pay 60$ ofr 120 kb/s max u should stop complaining but.. i got cable :D

  • my carrier is really good and I am happy with the service I have DSL through Fairpoint Communication. my speed are: 2,584 kbps download and upload is 688 kbps

I pay 43.99 a month and it is excellent, no problems.

  • My local ISP is a 5 Mbit/S line, BUT

    i want something like FIOS

it isn't new new but its barely out there.

im wondering if its worth it

  • I read cable in more likely to cap your bandwidth than DSL. I have 6mb DSL. It's always consistent. I've had 10 mb Cable in the past and can't tell any difference between the two honestly. I could up my DSL to 12 mb but I haven't bothered. I'm happy with 6. Please keep the smart A** comments to a minimum. Now what?

  • Someone please please pleaseeeeee help. i HAVE DSL AND IT HAS 100mgps. Yet it takes me hours to download something like 500megabytes? and when i try to connect to someone on xboxlive it goes cannot connect to xbox live party. PLEASE HELP

  • ALSO...divide that 500Megabyte file by .2, and divide that by 60 so its in minutes. taht gives you 41 minute download time approximately. Your internet is much slower than that though obviously

  • I'm wondering if anyone out there can help me. I have a cable connection that speed tests on several sites at around 13MB/s. Yet, it takes me HOURS to download a game demo that is 1.4 Gb.

I'm sure there is more to it than the simple math I see on the surface, but HOURS?? like, 7 or 8 of them?! I have netflix and xbox live and I can't stream movies from my que, because of my connection. Someone please help me!

I am paying over $50/mo. for this connection and I can't use it for what I want to.

  • Dude, speed test sites show your speed in bits per second, not bytes per second. 1 byte is equivalent to 8 bits. Your 13 Mbit/s translates to 1.6 Mbyte/s. At that rate it should take you 14 minutes to download a 1.4 GB file if your speed is constant but since it takes you hours you're probably not getting your max potential. Cable slows down considerably during peak hours because you're sharing your bandwidth with others on the cable company's network. Try doing your big downloads off-peak.

  • Cable connection is shared so you disadvantages is when other neighbors hook up you loose speed.

DSL is not shared and goes through a traditional Land Line which like I said with my speeds. I have no problem downloading anything, the slowest speed I came across was 10 mins. other than that, it fly's.. and of course I did the installation myself to get it that fast.

  • omg u kidding? i have att 2wire and it is the slowest internet connection i have ever had, i have soooooooooooooooo many problems with it i am about ready to throw it at a wall.

  • I pay 43.99 and the DSL is fast and its works really good

  • When you throw it at the wall, you better watch out. It'll go at the wall in slow motion and you might not be able to do anything about it... lol.

  • lmao

  • Nice

  • For the average person, 3 Mbit/s is ideal for broadband. Anything more than that would go unnoticed for the most part. And a very high upload speed is largely irrelevant unless you're a pirate/thief who wants to swap files. I'd say go for DSL. The prices are super cheap and you get the most bang for your buck.

  • I can't get DSL because I live too far away from the DSL man. I'm forced to use cabal, and i'm happy with it

  • WOW! Is this from a decade ago or is broadband internet in the US light years behind Europe?!?

In the UK, we complain about our 8 - 24Mb ADSL and 50Mb fibre optic broadband.

In fact wouldn't most Europeans be complaining if a 700MB CD took longer than 5-10 minutes to download or if a DVD took longer than 30-60 mins or if HDTV video streams couldn't be watched in real time at the same time as making 10 concurrent VoIP calls and pulling torrent data down at full throttle (with QoS of course)..?

  • All depends on how much you're willing to pay, I have a 15mb connection for 40 bucks a month, I could get a 100mb connection for a lot more cash but there really is no need after a certain point since it will matter on who you're downloading from as well as your own connection.

  • $40 /mo ?!?! Ouch! In the UK, basic DSL service (8-16Mbps downstream) costs about 10 bucks a month.

The Office of National Statistics (ONS) says 96% of UK internet connections are high-speed broadband connections, of which 60% are > 5Mbps.. and we're light years behind the most other European countries.

Although I can't believe as many as 4% of people still use dial-up :O Maybe it's all the 70-year-olds who logon once a week to check their email :S

  • 40 bucks isn't a lot where I live XD, but I know a lot of people over in europe since I travel there a lot and most of my family runs around the world. I'm just telling you from my own experience, and I'll take the facts I've gathered over anyone elses statistics. None of them were over a 5mb connection. All of them are still on DSL that usually maxes out at 3mb.

  • Oh, and you're the first one I've met in Europe who has a connection faster than 5mb.

  • It seems to be a trend in 1st world countries those with higher population densities and less land area generally have faster internet speeds. This makes sense as it costs companies much less to build highspeed networks in these areas and they get more customers the for areas they do cover. Being so much larger then the UK even though we have more people in the US our population density is about an eighth of the UK's.

  • I think we should work together and make a community of the DSL and Cable Group. I will never change and go anywhere else. I am very Happy with DSL!

  • I am using 1.2mbps WiMax connection

  • this is wayy out of date. DSL is faster now and optical is already in some countries

  • fiber is available in the US through Verizon FiOS.

i have a 10 meg dsl line using embarq its blazing fast and i never have lag or slowdowns.. i also have a static ip and am hosting webservers and my customers have never complained

  • i like cable internet no taxes no contract charge unlimited internet service 24/7faster speed

  • bastard companies and goverment should be bombed also film the bombing of these rip off fuckers...

  • i hope i can get cable soon

  • why you have DSL or satilight internet that's trying to kill you for no apparent reason(money wise) or dial up

  • Makes you laugh west invented the net yet singapore have the best ip infastructure @ 100mbit and some places even have 1gbit. I live in uk and have VM 20mbit it crap as VM BB limit the hell outa it and want me to pay high price yet they market as unlimited IT NOT! if your using VM BB in the UK google the complaints you will find what VM is upto and how they want you to pay for and 1980's service yes as eg adsl under 02 is better than 10/20mbit VM so your on VM experience the crap service

  • "yet they market as unlimited IT NOT!"

The stupidity of internet comments always amazes me.

  • We get 1Gbps metricfiber with fastmetrics.

Wired ethernet that we can spread between multiple locations within a metro area.

Has improved our inter-office communications, which is great for business. Cisco switch supplied to monitor traffic.

  • Andrzej Kręcijasz

  • I get dsl 6mb/s download and 512mb/s upload for about $45 a month from at&t with no yearly agreements

  • did you mean 512kb/s cuz 512mb/s is a lot of upload speed.

  • Shit, lol I wish it was 512mb/s

  • Meh i can make meh DSL go nuts if i want but its exspensive the only thing i like about cable is it like never fails and the speed never drops

  • I've been running on DSL internet for the past 4 years and even though I've had no problems with it, I am glad we are switching to cable. The higher speeds is all I am looking for to be honest.

  • agreed

  • no federal tax?

What do you think the "Federal Recovery Fee" is?

obama's plan raises taxes on broadband companies, initiates an "environmental" fee on installation with none of the money going to any environmental policy...not to mention how every small provider will be out of business under his insane ideas. No wonder he didnt do anything in Chicago - and a good thing, too!

Road Runner in my area is great, but their modems suck. Ask for the new one, the Motorola 43xx series; 4100 is junk

  • I disagree completely. I have cable internet, I pay no federal tax. Every month I pay 53.99$, period. Yes I do pay attention to my bills.

  • road runner is what i rock! :D

  • im a qwest broadband guy

  • and also may vary in your area

  • cable internet is the winner here

  • i would choose cable over dsl but i have nothing against it

  • The video wouldn't load in Standard quality but it loaded fine in High quality. :P

  • i did it in standard

  • i dont get it :/ I got DSL 16k with Cable ?!

  • for example people that pay for the comcast speed boost do get higher speed but more importantly get a higher priority file added to their cable modem.when information hits what is called a node on the pole at the same time the person with speed boost gets sent first all the way to its destination.

  • If you do get the slow speed DSL nobody else can be using the computer or you will lag horribly. I get 3 megs down on DSL and never lag or cause lag.would not recommend the slowest DSL package available.if dsl is like cable the people that pay for the higher speeds also get a higher priority in traffic.

  • i am a cable guy. cable is extremely faster but DSL is fine for xbox live. I cannot get cable because of where i live and as long as you are getting over 8 or 900 kbps down it will be fine. People think that because they are getting 16 megs down that they will be faster than every one else. Your xbox will only use the speed needed nothing more nothing less.

  • is dsl good with x box live?

  • Hell No its super slow nobody will play with you because the game will be lagging like crazy and campaign will be really slow so Nooooooooooooo!!!!

  • i have a 7mbps dsl modem

  • i have 6mb but MY COMPANY IM USING SAYS IM TO FAR SO I HAVE TO DOWNGRADE

  • i have dsl, i use orange AND IT SUCKS ASS.

  • ADSL perfect!

  • im happy with my DSL i had cable and it s***ed

  • ur happy with dick sucking lips hahaha

  • Cable is faster than DSL?????

Not really, in Germany, I have 16MBit/s via Cable, but 50MBit/s via DSL

  • brighthouse bitch! 15mbps

  • mine goes 20MBPS

  • i wonder i will ever get good speeds ,i dont even get a propr 2 mbps connection

  • Yeah mate try Virgin media here in the UK its fuckin shit i did have a 20mbit its too dear downgraded to 10mbit but was actually a 4mbit with the view of being ypgraded in the furture for free still waiting. Oh and now i get 990kb DL!! yeah cable is great. Here in rip off britian we are lied to,scammed, fucked in the arse and when your arse is bleeding and sore fucked deeper and harder again. We pay through the nose for utter shit services not much better off than starving africa I HATE THE UK

  • Talk about over the top. Have you contacted Virgin Media about your speed problems? You may just be on the wrong service. Virgin Media tend to be good at supplying advertised speeds. Those on 2mbs, 4mbs, 10mbs get almost exactly those speeds. Virgin Media say on their website people on 20mbs will get at least 16mbs, which is fantastic when you compare it to DSL in this country.

  • Virgin are known to throttle a user's connection, if they're not happy with how activity there is on the line. That's why I hate those arbitrary 'fair-use policies' - you don't know you've downloaded too much until you're stuck with a 512k connection for the rest of the month.

  • Dsl is actually better for xbox live.

Considering you need a certain modem for cable to work with xbox live.

  • i upgraded to cable because my dsl lagging in the games with more players. i plugged 360 in the modem and it worked perfectly.

  • lol -¬

     \/

  • Wow, you guys are really a bunch of fucking morons.

  • does any one know if you get a wireless modem when you order from at&t. my mom just ordered it but is not sure if we get wireless or not(we have not gotten it yet). she said she ordered the home phone, internet, and cable and we already have cell phone service. someone please reply.

  • I prefer DSL. Cable is expensive, slows down during high traffic hours, and just isn't as convenient. DSL has fast upload, average download (depending on what you have), and has always had better equipment available (IMO).

    Both are pretty close though.

  • I only get 512kbps speeds because of where i live :(

  • lmao get half that cuz everyone has it

  • I don't think there is anything slower than DSL.

  • Well, cable can be sometimes faster than DSL.

  • what ARE U INSANE?? WANNA SEE COMCAST CABLE SPEED CHECK MY VIDEO!!

  • Well, DSL can be faster sometimes with it's undependency on neighborhood networking traffic, but most of the time cable is faster. Internet speed depend on so many factors, it's hard to calculate which one is the fastest.
