Oh and I also forgot to mention, Opening up a powersupply can result in your death! Even trained people find a repair manual first, before ever opening the case to make sure that there isnt any high voltage lines anywhere. Capacitors can put out thousands of volts, which can easily kill even the best trained person if they dont follow the manufacturers repair instructions.
First of all, 250v fuse doesent mean anything. You need the amperage rating. Like 2A, or 3A, etc. Also a CERAMIC fuse, not glass. 2nd, opening up any sort of modern electronic device without being properly grounded with a ground strap and while ON CARPET, can result in damage to static senstative parts. You many not see that damage today, but it can result in failure in days, weeks, months ahead. This is a common mistake by untrained people who think they can work on electronics.
@555666gd You gotta look closely at the fuse. It should have a single or 2 digit number stamped on end. Like 3A or 10A. Also, take a multimeter and do a continuity test on the fuse to see if it is burned out or not. If your meter beeps when you put ur test leads on both ends of fuse, then its not a fuse problem but something else.
Got it.. but the pigtails broke off so I took the board off and I will take it to a repair shop and have them soder a new fuse back on. I'm hoping it won't cost that much!! Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
i got like a 18in Vizio. when i play my games on it, the tv will flicker for awhile then turn off. and then i have to wait like 2 minutes for the VIZIO emblem to stop blinking and turn back on. PLEASE help me.
You need to know the Amperage of the fuse before sticking any 250V fuse lying around. Most fuses have a 250V rating BUT if you use a 10A fuse where a 3A fuse is required you are likely to cause a fire. The power supply is running all the time in TV's so its a possible hazard even if the set is off.
I have a 47 vizio when plugged in the the vizio lights up the yellow color but wont turn on the tv or the remote wont turn on the tv on please help dont have the cash to take it in ty
@MrGeewray i honestly can't help you on this matter but the way i figured out how to fix my tv in the video is i just went on google andf did some research. Theres a lot of nice helpful articles and blogs on how to fix stuff like this. Try it out, i'm just a high school student, im not some tv repair wiz lol
(cont) May have to also solder lose the fuse from the top surface as well. It is easier if you have the little suction device thingamajig to suck out the melted solder as you are melting it. Most TV's have the cradle type fuses which are much easier to replace. But some have these more difficult pigtail fuses.
To those asking how to remove the fuse, it appears this is a pigtail fuse with the wires coming out of each end of the fuse. The way to remove these pigtail fuses is to remove the entire board and solder off the fuse from the under side of the board.
Also, regarding some of the people who have trouble removing the fuse;; yes u sort of slightly pry open the two metal holders and then i used pliers to remove the fuse(dont squeeze too hard on the fuse with the pliers) hope i helped.
Hey guys, after about 2 months of replacing the fuse, the problem reoccurred and i tried to replace the fuse again but it would burn out instantly when i plugged the tv into the power outlet. Then i noticed a sort of black ashy area on the power board so i figured there was a problem with that. So i ordered a new powerboard from ebay(about $70) and i installed it and my tv worked fine again. I've had it for about 3 months now and no problems.
i think i MAY have figured out the problem...from the looks of your tv, you might have the type of fuse that just pops in or pops out. my vizio SV470XVT1A has two metal holders on both ends of the fuse that seem to lock the fuse in place. i'd need to safely pry those metal holders apart on both ends and get the fuse out. im seriously confused why it was built this way, if these fuses are commonly going bad then why make it so difficult to remove/replace them?
I'm sure someone has already asked this but, how the heck do you remove that fuse? it looks FIRMLY attached (or held together) with two small metal things on both ends that's meant to keep it in place. do you want us to PRY them apart and remove the fuse or is there some way you did it? I want to make sure im not in some way prying the metal holders to the extent that one of them falls off and therefore screwing me over...please please please explain how u removed that fuse.
I would suggest changing the capacitors if you want to do it cheaper.........You need to know how to solder!!! Open up the back of the TV by removing all the screws. Then check the cylinders that are black with a silver top. If they're swollen or leaking thats your problem
@BigTripp509 i did! and mine still wont work. replacing the power board is the next option for ME- and the cost is over $400- If i do it myself its like $200..
lesson? NEVER BUY A VIZIO! i used mine less than half the time. I watched tv maybe 2-3 hrs and turned it off, for two years .. then "POP" it was jacked.
Thanks for the video. I just got a 42 inch Vizio. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but if I do I'll know the first place to look now. Thanks again..
Thanks for making this video. We are having the same problem with our VP50. Did the power board solve the problem? The thing that you said kept burning up - could it have been a capacitor? They look like a little cylinder usually, similar to a AA battery just not as long.
Video was very helpful. My Visio now working again. Thanks. Saved me a trip to repair shop and their $65.00 base charge. Plus I never believe those guys who could tell you anything.
Thanks for your video and your courage to take the back off and look for the problem. I wouldn't have had the nerve but you have inspired me. I looked at a post that said the fuse continued to blow due to the need to replace the power board. Have you had a recurring blown fuse problem?
, a circuit(i guess) near the fuse was burning up, it was brown from heat and anytime i would try to turn it on using the new fuses, that circuit kept blowing up basically, so what i did was i ordered a new power board panel(it cost like $60), i'm still awaiting it's arrival, hoping that'll fix the problem, i'll get back to u guys.
hey guys just to let u know; about a week ago(2 months after i put in the new fuse), the problem reoccured, i figured it was the same problem(the fuse being the problem), well the fuse was blown out and the tv couldnt turn back on, so i tried a bunch of new fuses thinking that'll solve the problem, but no(it wasn't the fuse persay), the power board(which the fuse is located one) was the problem,,, the comment continues on, view next comment
I have a 32 inch Vizio that did the same thing where the power turned off and now the tv wont turn back on. The orange light lights up, but it wont turn to white and power up at all. Any advice?
