  • I saw this AT the museum. They play it on an 1970s TV.

  • i totally remember this commercial

  • I totally forgot about this...I remember this was on all the time along with the Boston Aquarium commercial, "I can walk like a penguin!"

  • WOW! it's been a long time when I saw this.I was just a baby,I remember this.

  • I used to make my parents take me here all the time just to see that huge, awesome T. Rex. Also, I never realized just how much this add is totally seared into my memory!

  • damn, this makes me wanna watch Star Blazers right now!

  • I remember this!!!!

  • Holy crap that's from the 70's? I remember watching this commercial all the time in the 80's LOL

  • @CanOfMinus Ha! I was thinking the same thing! They must've been showing this for 8 years!

  • Sigh....wow....totally brought me back to my childhood. Thank you so much for posting this. Wow...totally blown away. Big time memories.

  • omg

  • Usually, this commercial would run back to back with the New England Aquarium commercial around 1976-81. It was shown by Ch56 WLVI, Ch38 WSBK(during Willie Whistle) and Ch25 WFXT Boston. Gotta love being a kid in New England back in the day. :)

  • I grew up in Boston, and I remember going to the MOS on school field trips. It was a lot of fun. BTW, in that ad, the vo has been used in a lot of other ads for Boston businesses. Anybody know his name?

  • germ central

  • I remember being saddened by this commercial when it was on the air. I grew up going to the Museum in the 60s. The "spaceship" the kid is sitting in used to be a full scale model of an Apollo command module, with every switch and instrument shown. When the museum switched to the "run around and play" format, they ripped out details of the interior and made it a "pretend space". They've come back the right way since then, but in the mid-70s they went to far towards playground from museum.

  • Thanks for the memory!! It was a great place to visit when I was a kid...WAYYYYYY back in the 70's....

  • I was trying to remember the station this commercial was always playing on back in the 80's, and I think it was WSBK TV 38. This commercial, and the one for Tiger Cubs were the 2 I remember distinctly. Wish I could find that Tiger Cubs commercial.

  • @BfDelano I've been looking for that Tiger Cubs commercial too! It had the characters from the Great Space Coaster in it! That commercial always used to make me mad because Tiger Cubs was for boys only and I was a girl and I wanted to get to play with the Great Space Coaster characters too.

  • OMFG!!! Thank you soooooo much for posting this. My wife from Kansas finally understands me! I just ran into the bedroom jumping up and down showing her this commercial! The "fun to find out" quotes I do all the time. The nasally "my name is Karen" quote while holding my nose, just like my sister and I did SO many times. The "walk like a penguin" on the aquarium commercial is funny too! What a blast from the past! So happy to be a product of the 70's from New England. Fun fun fun!

  • I remember this shit... it was aired around 1976-early 80s. Talk about old school. lol

  • I was born in 77 and remember this commercial vividly... "it's fun to see what makes an ocean wave wave." never forget that, it was beat into my head along with " I can walk like a penguin. "

  • That t-rex tat you saw at the end i got to go on a school feald tripand sleep in the roop next to it and i got my pic taken in front of it.

  • That inaccurate t-rex is still there outside of the museum. Love that thing glad they kept it and ya, the MOS is pretty much exactly the same as you see it on there. Surprised they didn't show off the van der graf.

  • The girl kinda looks like Cory Feldman.

  • @swans1997 Oh shit. LOL Yea... she does. :D

  • Man,kids in the 70s were sure easy to please :o

  • Sadly the folks running the MOS haven't received the memo about it no longer being the 70s since everything here is the same, but usually broken.

  • NEED MOAR CGI PLZ

  • @wrongindustries dude my dad had that exact striped collared shirt the kid is wearing which i know because grandma saved it and gave it to me for christmas 4 years ago when i was in the 7th grade and had just moved and her visit lasted until after break ended so mom made me wear it the first day back @ my new school which resulted in me being called donny osmond and shit for like a year

when i'm old enough to sue ppl i'm going to hit MOS up for 5 trillion bux for making me relive this trauma

  • In your case, it would probably be a real downer to find out what your voice actually sounds like.

  • life in the ghetto commercials

  • cool o_o :D

  • wow, so many memories

  • where is this museum?

and how old is this commercial?

  • @giakal This commercial is probably from around 1977 or so, just going by the fact that the one girl is Shelley Bruce, who was in Annie on Broadway in 1977.

  • Shelly Bruce huh? I never who that girl was (I was in Lawrence, Ma in the 70's --25 miles north of Boston) I saw this commercial alot! My dad even took me to the Boston Museum of Science!

  • It is in Boston near Cambridge and the commercial is from the early or mid-70's. I would guess 1974.

  • I'm privileged to say I got to hear my voice through the phone...just like Karen.

  • Wow! Seeing this and the aquarium commercial took me back...these commercials ran forever...funny I still remember them verbatim.

  • This brings back so many memories!!!

  • I worked at the Museum of Science for a few years in the '90s. It wasn't a great job, but it was a fascinating place!

  • OMG it's Shelley Bruce that little girl the one who plays kate in annie on broadway

  • Rayleigh scattering!

  • I was concieved in the shuttle.

Also my school had a sleepover there when I was in 4th grade, I slept in the shuttle. The shuttle was a big part of my life. Now I am an astronaut, and I constantly explore Uranus.

  • @lifer4164 yo murray

  • I never figured out what that frigging kid said "wave" twice until much later in life.

  • wow, so much is still the same, my mom was a wee lil' thing in this day.

  • It's funny...growing up, when that kid is in the Spaceship I was always totally confused about what he was saying! I always thought he was saying "This is the Captain Speaking, Cominer!" and I was always "WHAT is a "COMINER???" It took until right now, 2009 to realize he's saying "Come in, Earth!" Stupid kid said it too fast for my 10 year old ears!!!

  • Hilarious!

  • hahahaha so did i

  • @Mysterycat74

"Stupid kid said it too fast for my 10 year old ears!!!"

    Hilarious. Quote of the month.

  • @Mysterycat74 LOLOLOL So Funny I always thought he said "This is your captain speaking COMMANDER" It took until reading your comment to realize that....25 years later LOL...but seariously "Come In Her" is so much better LMAO!

  • @Mysterycat74 I thought the same thing! Then again, he does talk fast and back then, we didn't have the clearest tv signals like we do now. Nobody had cable when this was a new commercial.

  • @Mysterycat74 LOL! I just had the same epiphany!!

  • YES!

Now who's got "Make It In Massachusetts?"

  • correction: It is not fun finding out what you voice really sounds like.

  • @knucklehead66 lmao... in fact it cud b a terrifying experience

  • holy crap i remember this like it was yesterday "hello my name is karen" has been ringing in my ears every time i meet a karen for the past 20 something years... good ol wlvi 56

  • I remember this commercial. Though it might have been made in the 70's I remember seeing it in March of 1988.

  • wow you remember the date also ! :D haha great

  • I was a loyal WLVI viewer back in the late 70's and remember this very well! There was also another MOS commercial which featured synthesizer music with outer space sound effects; it mainly showed silver balls rolling on some tracks. It had little if any commentary in it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? WLVI was great during the summer, even though they showed worn-out films of The Monkees shows and did a lot of heavy editing to make room for commercials!

  • Remember Uncle Dale?

  • Uncle dale is a dj on oldies 103.3 now, it used to be everyday, now i think just saturday mornings.

  • Remembah Captain Bob?

  • the painter? I remembah his theme song...

  • Captain Bob?

  • I used to love chanel 56 when i was a kid!

  • I remember this. Awesome. I put a nickel into the pot for the dinosaur exhibit construction and got a T. Rex roar as a thank you.

  • Man, then that implies they were hoping to get the Dinosaurs upgraded for a very long time. They finally are now and my inner ten-year-old is ecstatic. Have you met my buddy, Cliff?

  • What ever happened to "I can walk like a penguin" ?

  • It's here. Just type Boston Aquarium commercial.

  • @tbonemadcow that was the new england aquarium. LOL

  • GEESH! How in the world did you find THIS one! wow... memories...

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! I grew up in Massachusetts and this was on all the time. Recently I was thinking about this commercial and the one for the aquarium..."It's fun to find out what makes an ocean wave wave" and "I can walk like a penguin"! Oh the memories!!

  • It's fun to find out what makes an ocean wave wave!! Haha. I still say that 25 years later!!

  • me too!!!

  • Wow, someone finally posted this! Thank you, it really brings back memories.

  • I saw this commercial hundreds of times between the late 70's and early to mid 80's but haven't seen it since, yet I remember it like I saw it yesterday!

  • Is it just me, or does the boy's striped shirt look like he stole it from Ernie of "Sesame Street"?

  • @OofusTwillip I think he looks like a young tony danza

  • Thank you thank you thank you! "This is the captain speaking, come in Earth"... I've been wanting to see this again for years....

  • This vid is fantastic! Thanks for the memories. Wasn't there another commercial before this one however? One where we get a look at the dinosaur? I'm asking because I was friends with the kid whose smiling face appears in the commercial right after the dino shot! Later and thanks again.

    Kaiju

  • Boy do I remember the rocketship, it didn't make the noise like it did in the commercial. My entire 5th grade class was none to happy. Thus ended our faith in advertising

  • Blast from the past, this commercial was on all the time back in the day!

  • I remember this! Funny, I remember the "its fun to find out" being from the New England Aqarium commercial's and not this. The two ad campaigns were similar and its been twenty plus years since I've seen these commercials, so...

  • lmao!

  • I remember that fake rocketship cockpit. How many kids have farted in that thing, after their balogna sandwich school field trip lunches, over the last 30 years?

    'It's fun to find out.'

    Yeah, that too.

  • I was waiting for someone to get this video up-great stuff!!!
