whats up with the transmission, etc on that car when dyno'ing a m6, sounds like hes just running through the gears. I know you need to lock the drive train to a 1:1 ratio ..I dont see this.......someone give some in site on their new tranny setups, etc
I don't really care what BMW calls it. The type of shifter is called paddle shifters or tiptronic. I'm guessing that you don't know this, but SMG is not only the name of the paddle shifter system for BMW. BMW used a transmission called SMG, that's commonly used in road racing and rally, in their e46 M3s. Not the same thing as the M6
"tiptronic" is just a 6 speed automatic transmission that you can choose to manual select the gear, but the gear shifting is still done with a torque converter in the gearbox, no different than a minivan's AT. The BMW SMG transmission (sequential manual gearbox) is a true clutchless manual, the same thing used in Formula One, which uses an electrohydraulic mechanism in place of the driver pushing down a third pedal.
Also, the "paddle shifters" are different on the SMG and the normal automatic (steptronic, tiptronic, whatever you want to call it). In the automatic transmission, both steering wheel buttons upshift and downshift depending on which way you move them (push/pull). The SMG's paddle shifters are different on the left/right (upshifting or downshifting). TOTALLY different transmissions (I have one of each, on a M6 and a 330).
@LouMsix hi what rims are those? They look like the BMW alpine rims..I like those on the m6

The M6 is equiped with Paddle Shifters. However, BMW calls them Tiptronic

NO. they're called SMG in this and the rest of the M cars now.

well it is. changing gears without a clutch is how a tiptronic works. and the m6 can be driven as an auto
