  • Thomas "Tom" Paine from (1737 to 1809) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, his book was notorious for The Age of Reason that advocates deism and promotes for the reason of free thinking and argues against institutionalized religion and Christian doctrines. Lets not forget about the 300 year Flat Earth Inquisition when millions of people were dyeing for our Religious Freedoms on a 100,000 Burning Crosses.

  • Bellamy was a flag salesman. In 1892 Francis Bellamy was also a chairman of a committee of state superintendents of education in the National Education Association. As its chairman, he prepared the program for the public schools’ quadricentennial celebration for Columbus Day in 1892. He structured this public school program around a flag raising ceremony and a flag salute – his ‘Pledge of Allegiance.’ His... Look it up. RexCurry is a good place.

  • "Socialism?

You'll believe in more than that before I'm finished with you.

I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!"

  • Great vid. Francis Bellamy and his Pledge of Allegiance was the origin of the Nazi salute that was used in the early pledge's ritualized daily chanting / brainwashing. Francis and his cousin Edward Bellamy influenced the National Socialist German Workers Party, its dogma, rituals and symbols, including the use of the swastika as crossed "S" letters for "socialism." See the work of the noted historian Dr. Rex Curry (author of "Pledge of Allegiance Secrets").

  • The teacher is a witch

  • @PatrioticEagle50 - last point: we can agree also that the US Constitution is not at fault for the bi-party system. It's just how things have developed in practice. P.S. I don't wish to insult anyone or undermine any American's patriotism. I am a very patriotic Canadian. I just think patriotism is a personal choice and that you shouldn't be put on the spot to make any promises of loyalty to the state in school etc (citizenship oaths for NEW citizens are another thing altogether).

  • @erracht

Patriotism is too similar to Nationalism. I dislike both, but one or the other are necessary.

It is one of the simplest version of Propaganda in the world, yet people fervently believe in such things.

I like the concept of Humanism though, and a single human race. I like the idea of a united human race, rather than idiots heiling evil flags(Nazi German and USA flags).

  • @PatrioticEagle50 Next point - by the same standard, there are and never have been any Communist countries, because originally, Communism was narrowly defined as a state with no private property whatsoever or something like that. But today we generally consider Communist pretty much all former and present countries with a Marxist-Leninist-type regime (USSR, Cuba, East Germany, North Korea, China etc) because those countries profess a brand of what is termed Communism. The term was broadened.

  • @PatrioticEagle50 We can agree that no country in the world is a pure democracy. Some are more democratic than others. I was just saying that being a democracy is not precluded by being a republic. As for democracy being the tyranny of the majority, it depends on how you define democracy. In Ancient Greece, it sort of was like that (the philosopher Socrates was put to death by a popular vote in Athens) but according to modern definitions, democracy and tyranny of the majority exclude each other.

  • @PatrioticEagle50 - what are you talking about? The Czech Republic is also a constitutional republic, as are most democracies. I assume you're American. America is a democracy, though I believe the practice of electing only 2 parties to Congress makes it less democratic than some countries.

"Majority rule" - you're probably talking about "tyranny of the majority". That is not democracy. How do you think your country gives you better protection from majority rule than other democracies/

  • @erracht Tyranny of the majority is democracy. Democracy is a greek word meaning something along the lines of 'Rule of the People'. If 51% of the population said to kill people of a particular race, then it will happen. Their would be nothing to stop them. That is why we have the constitution, to protect minority rights from the rule of the majority. And, we truely do not have a two party system. It is not in our constitution. We have more then just two.

  • @erracht P.S, I am not badmouthing the czech republic. It is a beautiful country. I just want people to know that their is not a single country in the world that is a pure democracy. Their are some that have democratic practices, but their are no democracies in this world. Look up what a democracy is. It is the rule of the majority, not the rule of law.

  • its sad though, because in my class today i was the only one standing up and saying the pledge. shows how ungratefull all my class mates are.

  • @seargentermy, Damn those classmates of yours! Not giving in to majority whim! How dare they use their freedom to dissent, the non-conformist right. They should stand and salute the flag, because respect is far more important than anything else.

  • HAHA the pledge lead by the wicked witch from Oz :)

  • Hey! Is that woman in the clip who portrays the teacher the same actress who was the Wicked Witch in the "Wizard of Oz? "

  • Yes it is her name is Margaret Hamilton and is a famous character actress. In the 70's she even revived her career as being a spokesperson for Maxwell House coffee.

  • Thank you, JediGoddessChristy.

  • @Turandot29 Yes, that's Margaret Hamilton, who was a Kindergarten teacher before she was an actress.

  • Ha ha. Cute, Axel! I remember my Kindergarten teacher being equally as scary.

  • wow, in canada, when its time to sing O canada, no one actually gets into it like tht.

  • Turn the hand 180° and you have germany in the late 30's...

  • ZOMG NAZIS

  • Actually the original was palm down and despite the fact that the guy who wrote the pledge was a national socialist Americans had the salute long before those other national socialists.

  • @hollandturbine

I think it's fair to say that Francis Bellamy would have been horrified if he had lived to see the rise of Nazi Germany and it's brand of socialism.

  • The original salute for the Pledge of Allegiance was called the Bellamy Salute. The Bellamy Salute mirrors what is recognized today as the "Nazi Salute". In 1942 is when they changed the Bellamy Salute to what is used today; with a hand over your heart.

  • @JediGoddessChristy

Very interesting. Thanks for that information.

  • So Nazis ruined the Bellamy Salute in the same way that they ruined the Swastika. That puts a frown on my face :-(

  • The words "under God" were officially added to the "Pledge" in June 1954.

  • Here's something quite odd. I remember there were some Leftist folks that didn't want to say the pledge because of their political beliefs.

Well, where the hell is their criticiism toward their fellow Leftist-Francis Bellamy whom was responsible for this crap?

  • Just because someone is categorized under the same political heading certainly does not mean that they agree on everything.

  • The Jehovah Witnesses don't recite the pledge nor do they honor the flag. This has caused them to be sanctioned by other countries in which they reside in. 'and for Richard Sands, one nation, indivisible..." Who is Richard Sands?

  • You think the Czech Republic is a shit country? Have you even visited it? Compared to it, America is the shit country. Less democratic, more brainwashed, imperialist.

  • @erracht Less democratic is a good thing. Democracy is a dictatorship. The dictatorship of the majority. I am glad to live in a Constitutional Republic, where my rights are protected from majority rule.

  • then, obviously, that is NOT the "bellamy salute" these schoolchildren are doing. their elbows are bent and their palms are up.

  • The arm gesture is not a salute- it's a form of presentation... as in "i present to you the flag". note that the elbows are (mostly) bent down and the palms are open and up.

Far from any kind of military salute.

  • I thought conservatives like the 'good old days?'

    lol

  • SHHH no one tell the christians...they still think we said "under god" in the past.

  • Pledge of Allegiance - 1949

  • It is not "the ancient Roman Salute" because the ancient Roman salute is a myth. It was debunked by the noted historian Dr. Rex Curry (author of "Pledge of Allegiance Secrets"). It was not a perfectly innocent way of gesturing respectfully as it was deliberately created by a socialist to promote socialism in the most socialistic institution: government schools. It began as a military salute that was then extended out toward the flag.

  • Even without the "under God" part, it's still a piece of shit. You shouldn't pledge allegiance to a nation because your teacher tells you to, but because you've consciously decided that you want to manifest your loyalty in this way. What brainwashing.

  • your a fuckin moron...if your not american i suggest you shut the fuck up and dont worry about what we do....

we will pledge alligence to whatever the fuck we want to you stupid mother fucker....

this is our country we pledge alligence to it....haha whats so wrong with that..

i guess if i lived in the pice of shit country Czeck Republic i wouldnt pledge alligence to it either haha you dirty eurotrash mother fucker...suck my fuckin american cock faggot

I PLEDGE ALLIGANCE TO THE FLAG

  • Soon Texas won't....

  • Va cacce la fregna atua madre....or as Czechs would respond, 'Vyser si voko!'

  • Actually, I remember (years ago...) my great aunt (who was a school teacher during the first half of the 20th century) saying they outstretched hand was dropped during WWII because of the similarity to the Nazi "Heil" gesture. -- But if this video dates from 1949, then her memory was a bit off.

She also told me that the "under God" bit was an addition during the 50s. She said it had to do with efforts to contrast the US with the Soviet Union.

  • The "Roman Salute" was a perfectly innocent way of gesturing respectfully toward an object, person, idea, etc. It was yet another corruption brought about by Hitler.

The Knights of Colombus added "Under God" in the early fifties.

  • The movie, "The Red Pony" was released in 1949 but it takes place in the early 1900's, so your great aunt's memory wasn't off.

  • The Pledge of Allegiance was the origin of the stiff-armed salute adopted later by the National Socialist German Workers Party. That is a recent discovery by the historian Dr. Rex Curry. The Pledge was written by a socialist in the nationalism movement who touted military socialism. He wanted government to take over all schools. When the government granted his wish, the schools imposed segregation by law and taught racism as official policy. They also forced robotic chanting to flags.

  • I'm pretty sure that the origin of stiff-armed salute adopted by Nazis was ispired by the anciet roman empire. Try ask Google

  • Actually, the Roman salute myth is a very common myth. Dr. Rex Curry showed that the myth developed after (and from) the USA's Pledge of Allegiance and its stiff-armed salute.

  • Good. The Pledge of Allegiance without people assuming you're a theist. 5/5

  • I wonder if the hand position looked like an upside-down heil

  • Actually, you're right-- there were different ways to hold the hands and arms over the decades, but around WWII or just after, it was decided that it did look too close to a heil.

  • I knew about the no "under God" thing. I'm very much interested in the hand position. I wonder when and why that changed? Off to research!

  • I read some more about the pledge after finding this video again-- there have been four versions, this is the third of four, with one of the earlier salutes.

  • I remember my mother telling me that is how they used the hand position during the pledge, but it change because it was too similar to the way the Nazi's saluted. But, I have never done any research on it.

  • Great point you make on your vid. No god in the pledge! Awesome. :)
