@siempresola77 Good point about the population. Compare now to the last depression and compare how many people farmed or lived in the city compared to now, they are truly some scary numbers.
@Bustertb Oh God forbid anything nuclear. Was listening to a radio show, the host talked about an emp or solar flare hitting and knocking out the grid, thus knocking out the nuclear power plants means to cools themselves, he called it an extinction level event! lets hope not.
I've hunted plenty when I was a kid. My question to many who are going to run into the woods is whether they really have the skills to do that. Also you will have about a million others out there with the same idea. Few people today have such skills or are in the physical condition required, myself included. I know how to garden, and I know some other old survival tricks, but my plan is to bug in, not to bug out, unless I have no other choice.
My husband and I believe in the lone wolf digging in idea BUT we have practiced bugging out and it really isn't an option unless the only other choice is torture or death. But it should be practiced so a person realizes how hard it is to run into the woods and kill a deer to feed the family, and live out in the elements you'd likely starve without food stores to fall back on when you can't get fresh meat & it's very hard! Thank you for sharing!
Allot of people seem to think that there will be plenty of wildlife for everybody. Sorry guys. This is the real world. Hunt what you can, when you can. Thanks for the perspective form a california. I see a lot of preppers videos and a lot of them are from eastern and southern states and maybe even from a midwestern.
Very well said. There is always someone out there plugging negativity. We should encourage each other not criticize. When I had young children, I always cleaned their mess because I knew it would be done right the first time. What a friend once told me, was in order for them to learn I needed to give up some control. Basically the end result would be the same but the process would be different. We all have our own way.
And the game patterns will change and be so unpredictable, you would be lucky at best to bag an animal after a very short time during a SHTF scenario. We all need to wake up and stop thinking that it wont happen to america, because their arrogance will one day get them and their families killed
@GunsAreEssential1975 Even if you get something whos to say you wont get killed by people trying to take it from you? Animals do this why wouldn't humans? It can happen to America. People haven't had to deal with realy hell since the 1860's we have been blessed. Stay safe!
Great video Gary! I've been dealing with the same crap from my family and friends. People don't seem to understand that the reason there is animals running around in the woods is because the majority of the people DON'T hunt and we do have game management. Every animal breeds at a certain time of the year, and when we are out there wiping them out, they wont be able to reproduce, therefore replenishing the game population. That's why we have hunting seasons!
"Oh I'm gonna get flamed for that" LOL that was hilarious I'm with ya buddy!!! Bug out/bug in probably the most controversial prepper topic...Let's not forget alot of native americans died of starvation on their nomadic trek too. Love the view in the backyard. Do what you can for your family and screw the rest of em....at least your doing SOMETHING!!! Let the govn't take care of the naysayers they are building some nice hotels for them as we speak...what cuisine will they serve there I wonder?
I hear you Gary! We raise what food we can right here..I do my own canning..if I can't grow it or raise it..I buy it..Howie hunts..but its not always successful..you do the best you can with what you have..the whole point of prepping is being PREPARED..not being caught short to the point where you have to go out and eat weeds..although..spring dandelions are tasty in a salad and good for you.
Damn it you mean I have to get rid of all my BPA reused bottles, canned hams, rice and beans because someone on YT said it isn't good for me? I think I'll take my chances and they can go see how long they last out in the wild. Rock on brother.
Not to mention all of the salt, pectin, lids, freezer containers and bag, and all of the other stuff you need to preserve stuff. Even caners, jars, and rings go bad after a while and need to be replaced. The only place you could get away with living off the land half way decently is someplace without long winters. Then there's stuff like chopping and splitting firewood. having food for your animals, etc. I've heard the stories of how bad the last round was don't want to go through that.
@BookGolem The depression wasn't sexy was it? This can be much worse. the stats tell us that nearly 90% lived in the country, and 10% in the city. Now it is the opposite. Stavation and disease will be big killers.
im with you on buggin in.it doesnt make any sense to bug out whatsoever, unless its a nuke or bio attack, but then everything will be contiaminated and deadly anyway may as well stay in.
yea in NE PA you spend a short planting and growing season trying to get every thing in and up. And then a frantic harvest season trying to get every thing canned, frozen, or dried before they go bad or get to large and kill the plants. Then hope that you got enough in to last till next year. And then there's bad weather, crop failure, and animal damage to worry about. All of the rest of the year it's nothing but ice and mud out there. And even then we still have to buy stuff from the store,
Interesting views, thanks for sharing! Beautiful view you have there and it's awesome you got chickens and such! That's more then what most people have!
@ytgv3fc7 I agree with your points, I guess I wasn't clear. The comment was more along the lines of bugging out and living in the woods type of thing. Greenhouses are very possible in winter, in fact someday I will have one. I do not kow what the shtf will be for me or anyone else, I just do what I can and share it with whomever whats to listen. Thanks for the input and for watching!
@GaryMule ya it wasn't clear but hey, none of us is living it so it's hard to spit out the words in quite the right way. I look at it this way: if you're really living off the land you're not coming down out of the mountains with your meat to be killed. You'll just stay there. And if you're not working with your community you lose all the benefits of it. Like loyalty & common-protection, like being a pseudo-family that doesn't kill each other for food.
I agree with you. Most don't live in a place like pasadena where food can be grown all year round. And I wish there wasn't a misperception out there that stored food is "bad" food. There are so many different choices so wanting to eat healthy food should not be an excuse not to store food. Good video.
@shadowofjuniperhill Living here where it snows really makes me regret not taking adnavtage of the California growing season when i lived there. But I was young and dumb and you knwo the rest
The real reason living off the land is a bad idea is because of how very crowded it would get in a SHTF scenario.
Now knowing how to live off the land is an excellent skill, especially considering how many people will die trying in the first year.
I'm planning on stored food and kerosene for the first year to avoid the "golden horde" finding me out hunting or following the smoke to my home. Even growing your own is a liability until the population has thinned out considerably.
@theshillelaghlaw I have read various estimates on how long the die off will take. I would say it depends one the area. But you are right in the beginning it really will be a dangerous place when all those grasshoppers go looking for the ants.
@theshillelaghlaw if you can't survive living off the land then you'll have to be an armed bandit living off others' land. It's a choice. Once SHTF option 3 is gone.
@ytgv3fc7 I believe that normalization will occur, though the length of time depends on the severity of the calamity, it'll be back to frontier justice but the raiders will be a danger to everyone and end up being hunted eventually.
@theshillelaghlaw I'm counting on the first winter killing most of them off. Well, more like hoping. Storing more than a year's worth of food is impossible in my present situation, even a year's worth is difficult.
I'm mainly watching for giveaways like solar panels, wood smoke, obvious gardens, etc.
The down side to that is the people who live past the initial die out are either going to be able to provide for themselves honorably, or be very good at doing so dishonorably.
@theshillelaghlaw Why do you think it is impossible to store more than a years worth??? I am thinking I know a few who have more than a year, one gal I know has about four. Long term of course.. Nothing is impossible! Just do it!
I suggest to everyone I know to store garden seeds.. If you lose your job, like most people will in a SHTF situation you will do whatever you can to feed your family including growing as much food as possible. Blessings!
when you come to understand. that leaving this earth is freedom. that is if you are saved by the blood of Jesus! you will welcome death in 3weeks. than live another 20 years with tumors bulgeing of every orifice. and going to hell for taking part in the beast system! i am not saying not to try to survive. i got kids too. but i know the ending of this battle.
@cantore35 I can see where you are coming from and I have read the book and know how this all ends. That being said, i am not going out without a fight.
Good way of looking at food storage. And your take on growing your own food is very practical. Unless you don't have another job, most folks can't grow all of the food they consume in a year. Promoting your gardening method doesn't count as another job either! (Not that it isn't work.) I'd like to start pressure canning, but the glass top stove isn't good for that purpose. I'm still looking at alternatives.
Here in Montana you call them Native Americans, I learned that when I moved here, lol. But anyways great video. Its better to bug in if possible thats for sure.
Well said I've been telling people the same thing wild game will get wiped out real fast when you dont live in fantasy land. I get a kick out of "mall ninjas" they don't have a clue!
@CitizenCrimefighter That was my point, Red Dawn was the worst movie made in that sense, everyone thinks they can just pack up and leave. They are in for quite a shock.
Wow, Beautiful view. You food terrorist :) I just canned some more terror Sunday. LOL. I find they are mostly jealous people that have no idea what they are talking about. Great video and awesome points. Be Safe Brother
I remember someone did the math on how fast a group of preppers bugged out to the woods could strip an area of it's resources (food). It was surprising how quickly a small amount of people could clear large areas of land of game and wild edibles.
Remember back in the day with hunter gatherers, They knew generally where to look & would leave enough to regrow/repopulate. Tribes had territory they defended where they knew they could rely on the resources & promoted their well being.
@GaryMule Depends upon the tribe and region. Places like the Pacific Northwest they settled in one place and produced a very extensive culture due to the abundance of food year round.
While in the plains they traveled extensively in very large ranges. Most of the cultures though did food storage. Pemmican & smoked or salted meats are common examples. Interestingly Pemmican is the ultimate survival food. Decades self life, & you can live on it alone. Though might get boring. LOL
@MrDeathstyle I grew up near the Valley and Fremont area. Love to eat at that mexican place on the corner of mission and garfield. Miss the hat and belly buster too! What high school did you go to?
Living off the land takes a large range to gather and hunt. This video is correct about living off the land in your back yard is not feasible as an option for living.
This video is incorrect though about Native Americans being obsessed with food. The fact is most indigenous tribes around the world had much more leisure time than we do in modern civilization. Hunter gatherer living when there was open land to do it was a life with little worry about food, unless the tribe lived in extreme places.
@illyounotme Yes, I knew I shouldn't have said obsessed, but I did nto want to redo the whole thing. What I meant was they had to move from place to place, that made it impossible to set up a modern civilzation. Ever have a time when you had the thought byut cannot describe them? Thanks for watching!
@GaryMule I can understand that. I would point out though that it is a common misconception nomadic means low culture. Mongols had some serious culture, Plains Indians had some serious culture (an interconnectedness of thousands of tribes), Inuit had some serious culture. It was just different from what Europeans think of as culture. Nomadic life can become just as complex & cultured as sedentary agricultural life.
And remember they had more leisure time in general than we do now.

@ytgv3fc7 I believe that normalization will occur, though the length of time depends on the severity of the calamity, it'll be back to frontier justice but the raiders will be a danger to everyone and end up being hunted eventually.
theshillelaghlaw 1 month ago
@theshillelaghlaw I'm counting on the first winter killing most of them off. Well, more like hoping. Storing more than a year's worth of food is impossible in my present situation, even a year's worth is difficult.
I'm mainly watching for giveaways like solar panels, wood smoke, obvious gardens, etc.
The down side to that is the people who live past the initial die out are either going to be able to provide for themselves honorably, or be very good at doing so dishonorably.
theshillelaghlaw 1 month ago
@theshillelaghlaw Why do you think it is impossible to store more than a years worth??? I am thinking I know a few who have more than a year, one gal I know has about four. Long term of course.. Nothing is impossible! Just do it!
snaps81625 1 month ago
@theshillelaghlaw The sheer numbers will be down, but the danger posed by the surviving raiders will be increased.
theshillelaghlaw 1 month ago
I suggest to everyone I know to store garden seeds.. If you lose your job, like most people will in a SHTF situation you will do whatever you can to feed your family including growing as much food as possible. Blessings!

@sablechicken You should try the greens they really are good with a light vinegrette

@docsimonson I have heard that it depens on the model and brand. I traded in our electric for this same reason. Gas is just better.

Tribes had territory they defended where they knew they could rely on the resources & promoted their well being.
illyounotme 1 month ago
@illyounotme Did they do any type of meaningful food storage or woulod they just move on when the weather went sour?
GaryMule 1 month ago
@GaryMule Depends upon the tribe and region. Places like the Pacific Northwest they settled in one place and produced a very extensive culture due to the abundance of food year round.
While in the plains they traveled extensively in very large ranges. Most of the cultures though did food storage. Pemmican & smoked or salted meats are common examples. Interestingly Pemmican is the ultimate survival food. Decades self life, & you can live on it alone. Though might get boring. LOL

Hunter gatherer living when there was open land to do it was a life with little worry about food, unless the tribe lived in extreme places.
illyounotme 1 month ago
@illyounotme Yes, I knew I shouldn't have said obsessed, but I did nto want to redo the whole thing. What I meant was they had to move from place to place, that made it impossible to set up a modern civilzation. Ever have a time when you had the thought byut cannot describe them? Thanks for watching!
GaryMule 1 month ago
@GaryMule I can understand that. I would point out though that it is a common misconception nomadic means low culture. Mongols had some serious culture, Plains Indians had some serious culture (an interconnectedness of thousands of tribes), Inuit had some serious culture. It was just different from what Europeans think of as culture. Nomadic life can become just as complex & cultured as sedentary agricultural life.
And remember they had more leisure time in general than we do now.
