#202 - eVGA e-Geforce 4 Ti4600 Video Card

The funny and sad part is that ever since Adobe added stage video to flash this card will not play Youtube fullscreen anymore, it is just a black screen with audio.

The suggested "fix" is to turn off hardware acceleration but this just turns YT into a slideshow instead of video as the framerate is so low. Funny how I could play 720p YT vids fullscreen before...

Back then you could choose between standard PCI or AGP - only the high end mobo's had an AGP slot much like PCIE when it first arrived! I owned a geforce 2 and it played Max Payne 1 and quake 2 beautifully and Deus Ex looked amazing on it - LOL

@nelizmastr Yes this card was faster in direct3d under direct 8 than a 9700 pro, even though it was almost 2 years old when ATI released the top end 9xxx series. Under OpenGL it blew ATI's cards away. It was only in Directx9 that it failed to match ATI's. It was a shame that the GeforceFX series was a flop.

it's a god damn 9 inch long card consider it was still in agp 4x era. first long card single gpu solution which later changed the graphics inductry forever. plus it's same length as my 9600gt but a little bit shorter than gtx 260 :)

@kawaiifreak860 also 9.0a will run perfectly fine on this card (not joking) as it is greater then the FX series despite having only DX 8 pixel and vertex shaders it runs DX 9 twice to even 40-60 times faster then a FX series card could ever hope to.

@ryinger I don't think you understand.. I wrote my comment in past tense, which would indicate that the graphicscard isn't "introducing" me anymore. I have as everybody else moved on to newer graphicscards. Just a few years ago, when "Crysis" was released I made a Geforce TI 4800 256 MB edition run it on low settings and it was playable!! This particular graphics chip was EPIC when first released, and it still has some muscles for today's gaming! Impressive!

With old drivers you can have desent speed(with nice mousefeeling) in Unreal tournament(this in open glmode) this since with ATI cards dont support open gl and perform miserbly in directx7 driver that come with UT99

Wendy2212, thats a good point, the ti4600 was a very powerful card when it was first released, ATI's older cards like the 9700 and the 9800 Pro and XT versions still play alot of todays games as well.

Obviously, wtf, this card is ancient in computer years. The funny thing is, the video card from ATI, that this card was put up directly against, CAN play Call of Duty 4, and Crysis. Obviously not on the highest graphical settings, but the ATI 9700/9800Pro graphics cards with their 8 fixed pixel pipe lines, still rage alot of todays games.

I have the top of the line ATI graphic card 4870 x2. And runs every game very smoothly (except Crysis). The only thing that I dislike in the powerful cards is the heat they generate :-(

Lol- the crazy output of heat these powerful cards push out is the price us gamers pay for extreme performance. Thats when having a nice case with great air circulation is needed. I have an Antec 900 Case which puts a tornado around your hardware plus a double din PCI fan directly underneath my video cards to keep them cool. I run Crysis at 1680X1050 everything maxed out with the realism mod smoothly- you shouldnt have a problem with your 4870X2. Update your drivers.

Unfortunately I didn't invest so much in the case as I had with the CPU and the graphic card. I have small case with not so good air flow in there and my GPU temperatures go as high as 70c in full load and the fan is running at 60% with updated drivers to 9.1

I tried running Crysis with it and i got playable framerate. But not so smooth as running Call of duty 5.

I'm what most people would call a "slow upgrader" lol . My previous PC which I was using a 3 months ago was using GeForce 4 :-)

Wow- so using a 4870X2 must be like HUGEEE lolol. I remember upgrading to a quad core and sli over my older ATI x850XT and an AM FX53- and it was like night and day. What i thought was previously playable on my old computer as acceptable frame rates were now slow as hell. Remember dont get jaded with performance, if you think your new computer is running "slow" just remember what it was like to use your older Geforce 4... we all tend to get a bit spoiled with gaming PC performance.

Yes it was indeed a very huge jump in performance. Considering that I had the slowest GeForce4 MX 420. Back in 2002 my card was called "GeForce2 on steroids" lol. The only games that ran smoothly on that card were games similar like Unreal tournament 1 (from 1999). Right now my PC is fast more than enough to satisfy my needs. I will buy a new one in 2014 lol and I'm not upgrading a single thing on this one. Just as I did with the previous one. Maybe I will add 4GB more RAM in future.

way old, its a AGP 2x/4x (3.3volt)card that means if you put that in a modern Agp-computer it might not work all at full capacity (windows set's the card to run on default pci or agp 1x) I you persist running at axg 4x speed the modern agp-8x -1.5 volt agpport might broke->this means only that after you brake it you computer works but Now only at pci-portspeed ( this sucks). Anyway its comparble to ati-9600 pro-little worse (this is i guess (at pair in open gl games like quake 3)

Stop inventing stuff please. This is neither an AGP 2x card, nor does it require a 3.3V voltage. 3.3V was used for 1x and 2x only. If you install proper AGP drivers for your motherboard, GeForce 4 cards run like a charm and at full speed, no matter wether your board features AGP 4x or 8x. I can tell, since I had one. Also, if you put a 3.3V card into a 1.5V slot, the card will either fail to post or destroy the port completely, rendering your motherboard useless.
