  • Scubapro jet fins are nice.

  • Those fins are actually the ScubaPro Jet Fins. Rocket fins are the knock offs made by US Divers/AquaLung.

  • Dude- you're like an underwater gazelle.

That's the most graceful swimming I've ever seen.

  • how much of your kick comes from your hips down and how much of it comes from bending your knees? im having a hard time figuring out which one i should be doing, or do the instructors not really care that much?

  • Hi I was curious if this is the same thing that you have to do at Buds is the technique the same?

  • @MrSandmanTv It may not be excact but very close. I have read that the technique at BUD/S you can also use your non-leading hand to stroke as well. I never did.

  • Dont dolphin kick after the push off, its not aloud in indoc.

  • haha. yeah, 4k is a long distance. i'm leave in 2 months for BMT, slotted PJ. I swim a lot in fins for practice, and do a lot of leg exercises to build up the strength. its definitely not effortless. those look like ScubaPro Rocket Fins- same as mine probably. My booties are heavy though- makes it a bit harder. Haha.

  • These are definitely Jet Fins, not Rocket Fins. They are NOT basically the same. They are similar, but have distinct differences that you may like/dislike. A real combat swimmer would know his equipment better. Eotech, Aimpoint, same difference, right?

  • These are Rocket fins, but you can use Jet fins, Turbo fins, Nitro fins...

  • split fins... much better...

  • "Just do that about 80 times and thats the 4000" haha so legit he says it like its no big deal

  • reminds me of the Navy SEAL combat stroke

  • Hey bk thanks for the video, very helpful. I just had a question on what mask you use during indoc. do you have to buy your own or do they give you one? thanks a lot sir.

  • Stiffler, those are ScubaPro Jet fins. Aqualung/US Diver Rockets fins have distinct struts down the whole fin and I prefer Rockets myself.. But both get the job done.

  • luv how the Combat Side Stroke technique, the UDT trunks, the Hooyah, and everything else was borrowed from the Teams. Can you believe I saw them Hooyah the Instructors like at BUD/s? The SpecWar community doesn't sit by breathlessly waiting for the PJs to come to rescue them. Look up 18 Delta. We all learn trauma. That's easy. Difficult is managing care for long term, sick call, diagnostics, treating live stock, things PJs don't do. There's more to SpecWar Med then ATLS guidelines. Try TCCC.

  • is this at DM?

  • are you not allowed to keep your head out of the water?

  • BK, I was wondering if you could share some insight into the technique used when swimming with rocket fins, as I am sure you have had plenty of instruction. Thanks.

  • 80 mins for 80 laps is duable.

    A descent swimmer does 1'20, 1'40 Freestyle ext on 100 m (4 laps).

You have a minute for every lap, so normally you're ok. do they get to hydrate on the go or do they keep going and do they provide good gatorade etc after the test?

Try to find a good swim coach, normally they only ask 35 à 45 dollars per month for written down exercises. Ask around @ your high school or college!

Drink 1000ml 1 hour before the test starts, and 'bout 500ml of gatorade prior

    .

  • hey bk what kind of fins are you using in this video. are they ROCKET FINS or JET FINS? thanks and which ones are better and which ones do the PJ's use? thanks again!

  • I think they're rocket fins. They're both pretty much the same..... I used rockets during indoc, but some guys claimed jet fins were faster. I am not sure what they are using now, though. Almost certainly one of those two, though....

  • hey thanks for the info and fast reply! im leaving for indoc next year in june. is it possible that we can talk maybe you can give me some pointers or info on stuff that i dont know about indoc and the PJ's alone. thanks again Bk

  • @bkbigfish

they're jet fins. rocket fins are pointy at the end, and having much bigger venting system than jets.

  • @bkbigfish Jet fins are in use now. Rockets aren't as flexible and will provide a harder workout preparing for indoc etc.

  • Hey bk, do you see a lot of candidates from other branches trying out for the PJs?

I'm a little curious. I Just got out of the Marines and want to do this but I think the habits i've become accustomed to might put me at a huge disadvantage. Not to mention I hear that the instructors like to eat former Marines alive. Any suggestions?

  • There's a ton of guys from other branches who come over.... mostly marines and rangers. But we've had prior SF, seals, you name it. All kinds. The vets are usually shown proper respect, if they're not douchebags and can hang. They still get smoked along with everyone else, though. Of course, if they're arrogant pricks, they're hounded mercilessly. Don't worry about it.

  • That's reassuring news.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • @southernfriedbeans yeah those are rocket fins i have a pair there great fins but there not an easy fin to push around

  • Man, I want to be a PJ so bad, it's just i'm not that great in water. Any suggestions?

  • Sup dude, Im leaving for basic at the end of this month and do CCT, my recruiter hella pushed me to swim cause i sucked.. To tell u the truth i was horrible, i did a 500 meter freestyle in like 13 min. I watched youtube vids for technique and im now down to a 9:30 500 meter in less than 5 months.

  • Oo really? That's awesome.. I think i've changed my mind and i'm gonna tryout for SEALs.. But good luck with CCT :)

  • there is a required 4000m swim with fins doing this swim technique to be done in 140 min. try 1000m's at a time no more than 35min,then work your way up 2000 then 3000 then 4000 and of course add the time each time you move up. alot of men fails this part.

    good luck with much respect

oh and its's 80 laps in a 25m pool in case you dont feel like do in the math

  • i take the past test next week is it hard? and for the 500m is there a certain way they want you to swim?

  • my bad it is 80 i counted down and back as 2

  • it would be 160 laps

  • Thanks for the post. I had no ideas that PJ's had their own stroke. It looks just like the Navy's CSS stroke but without the arms. I think this would help a person out with their CSS technique quite a bit.

  • say im in a 25 meter pool and im counting down and back as one lap, how many laps do i have to swim to do a 4000 meter? i just want to make sure my guess is right ( 80 )

  • He just said that if the pool in the video was done 80 times it would be 4000, So your question has already been answered.

  • is this the pool at davis monthan gym?

  • And he not going near half his speed. He's just doing a slow demo. When they do their practices, or have their test, they go at least 5 times faster, if not more.

  • your swimming sucks, no way ill do that!!

  • lol /??????

  • how are you supposed to train to be able to do a 4000 meter in 80 minutes or less?

  • swim swim swim swim and swim some more...pj indoc is no joke this is coming from an ex pj trainee

  • Yep, we spent over 3 hours a day in the pool. 1& half of it was all underwater (bobbing, dirty down unders, buddy breathing, 13 underwater 25 meter swim, 1 50 meter swim, ditiching and dawning, tieing knots). The next hour and a half were all rockets fin training. 30 to 40 minutes of it was spring. The rest (50 minutes to 1 hour) was one long..long distant swim...with the cadres yelling at you to go faster...

  • what are the dirty down unders?? Im trying to get prepared for PJ PAST testing and beyond Ive got the drown proofing thing down if thats what you mean by bobbing.

    plz reply I need advice!

  • did you make it through the pipeline?

  • why isn't he using his arms? it seems like the best stroke would be the CSS.

  • The CSS is for SEALs only! They came up with it.

  • ok, so... why would that stop them from using it? what is this stroke called then?

  • thats probably the dumbest answer ive ever heard intel. Seals PJs Green Beretes, WERE ALL ON THE SAME FUCKIN TEAM. If one group finds a better technique, they share it. ESPECIALLY with the PJs who will be going in to save their lives.

  • those are, in my opinion the best fins right there, they are all i use.

  • So your allowed one freestyle stroke in the beginning after a couple dolphin kicks? I'm going to try that. I've been doing these buy my times are sucking.

  • nice...........rockin the farmers tan

  • This is one hell of a workout. :D

I know I can get to 4000 in time though.

  • Dear god 4000m of this. I'm not saying I could swim 4000m like this. But if I could I wouldn't be knocking down sub 5:00 minute miles and going on 20 mile marches with 80lbs of rocks in my ruck sack for many days. You would have to help me out of the pool. That has to just about burn holes in somebody's quads. I guess that's one of the many reasons why PJ's are special. That is endurance at a different level.

  • Dumbshit, you're not allowed to use your arms. Go back to your mom's basement. I put this video up to help prospective cones, you idiot. Oh, but what do I know, I'm only a PJ/combat diver. I'm SURE you're MUCH more qualified to lecture on this than me. Stupid fat asshole.

  • You're an idiot. This was posted as a technique that is MANDATORY at the schoolhouse. Did I mention you're an idiot?

  • 2dix, if you are a SEAL, I am embarrassed. If you are not, you don't have any reason speaking like you are one. All you are doing is giving them a bad name.

  • Dude stop pretending to be a SEAL...just shut your mouth...this is the way you HAVE to swim you are not allowed to use your arms, PJ's do not have the luxury of using their arms when they are towing a victim through the water...so just go on and keep touching yourself while you think about being a SEAL

  • No doubt..... if there is any question about this moron, PJs and SEALS have a long history together, both in training, combat, and drinking. There's tons of respect for each other. A real SEAL would never talk like this dipshit. But, fakers tell themselves so many lies, they start to believe it themselves.....

  • ok, but what is the right technique for long distance fins swimming with no rules. if you have snorkel it's clear, if not? should you use your arms...? what about monofin. breaststroke like style works well for me even with 4lb weight on my neck.

  • It can't be that long man,PJ's are quite new!

The guys in NAM,were crew chiefs etc...SEALs,

    did PJ work in NAM...

  • Huh? PJs have been around since the early '50s, son.... way before the SEALS..... Not before UDT, but definitely before JFK created Naval Spec Warfare.....

  • PJ are new?? You're full of shit, dude. PJs have been around since 1922. How long have Seals been around?

  • haha maybe you dont know but pjs are the elite in the military they have all the seals recon para medics all special ops put in to one guy

  • Not dogging PJ's, I think they are bad ass, but by incorporating all of those disciplines aren't you going to suffer mastery in each. A similar example would be a boxer and a mixed martial artist. You put a team of PJ's and a Team of SEALs in a gunfight, and it is going to be a short night for your boys. So before you go saying the PJ's are the elite, you should probably define what you mean by that.

  • as in elite you have a soldier that is good enough to go to a navy seal team to help with there mission or recon or anyother special forces and be able to have emt skills your combining a special forces frontline or behind line skills into a person with massive skills in emt

  • So most well rounded? I won't argue with you there. Like I said before PJ's are pretty bad ass. Every spec ops group has there own specialty, so to say one is more elite than the other is a little unfair.

  • when i said pjs are elite i mean that they are elite cause no other special forces has the skill of emt and combat not as the best fighter ever created i guess a better word would be hybrid for pjs

  • That's total speculation on your part, and regarding MMA vs. Boxing, more mma champions balance disciplines, whereas boxers going into the sport are at a loss. Not that this is too conclusive, but on SpecialOps Mission a PJ went up against a marine, marine recon, former navy seal, and an army specialist in a war game and actually Killed everyone but the recon guy and completed his objective. Pj's are in the top tier, there isn't one best. They work in conjunction with all SpecOps groups.

  • that is true. i actually saw that episode last sunday. surprisingly the seal got out first, he got caught out in the open and was shot in the back when he was running to cover

  • Each lap here is 25m right?

Is the 80 minute time hard to achieve? I don't have much experience with fins, jet / rocket fins in particular, all I know is that swimming this distance without flippers is insane.

  • yea its a hell of a workout to meet that time...and i personally hate the fins we use

  • 25 meters, correct. Depending on the class, you could be in a fifty meter pool, which would cut it to 80 laps. If you suck at turning at the wall, it could be better for you, it all depends. And it's insane WITH fins....

  • Excellent man GREAT video!

  • how many meters did he swim

  • Always wear dive boots or else ure feet will be torn to shreds. Great video and awesome technique. Thanks.

  • He has on booties lol

  • Are you supposed to wear divers boots with the fins or do they go on bare feet?

  • Could you post more swim tech. that you thing might be helpful. How about some eggbeater

  • thanks, prepping for CRO phase II

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for showing this :) Should help me quite a 'bit for prepping
