Supplementation, like diet is going to be very Bio individual .....everyone is different....There is a REAL reason we need B12 however......purists, have your levels checked out through a blood test and see whats working or not working for you....there is no shame in supplementing :)
I've been reading alot about raw foods lately and although i agree in parts that it's good to eat foods in their natural state, if you have to take supplements then your diet is not correct or natural!
Unfortunately foods these days are not what they used to be. Our soils have been greatly depleted of critical minerals, and soil microorganisms, etc... Therefore the nutrients in our foods are not as pronounced as they once were. If we then go about the process of cooking said foods, and further making them devoid of nutrition, the more society will become deficient. Which the vast majority of the population already are, and do already rely on supplements, and or drugs.
I think the supplement issue is debatable. There are 30 + year raw foodists who do not supplement at all such as Storm Talifero, Aris Latham and Dr. Gabriel Cousins. As a whole, raw foodist supplement far less than people on the typical meat-vegetable-fruit-pasta-rice etc. diet. Remember... coffee and/or red bull are NOT dietary essentials and yet most non-raw foodists need such stimulants to make it through a day. Scary.
Some supplementation is recommended such as B-12. I have heard interviews from Gabriel Cousins, and he specifically states he takes a form of B-12 supplementation. Also a zeolite supplement, to aid in the removal of heavy metals, toxins, etc... from the system.
I wasn't aware that Dr. Gabriel Cousins took or suggested the taking of B12. It is something to consider. However, it is also important to note that there are long time raw foodist who do not. Storm Talifero is one who has been a raw foodist for more than 30 years. Aris LaTham has been one for even longer. That is also important to note. There are also raw foodists who are discussing plant sources for B12. I think Brigitte Mars, for one, has indicated such foods like bananas, wheatgrass, etc..
I personally do not feel their is anything wrong with supplementation. As long as the sources are Raw/Organic, Whole Food based, and or you are incorporating SuperFoods, this will complement an already healthy diet. As far as B-12, the most bio-available form you will find is Max Stress B Nano-Plex (Premier Research) Gabriel recommends, and takes this himself, it is derived from various probiotic strains. Also, other sources such as Spirulina, etc... are not generally Bio-Available.
U are 100% right, Read the bookGreen for Life by Victoria Boutenko and also The Live Food Factor BySusan Schenck & Victoria BidWell, U will find out that Leafy Greens, Spirulina, & Chlorilla all are better sources for B12 or protein already broken down into the forms that our cell need in order to use!Much less work 4 the body!
@guploo Even if the $2,000 per month quote is accurate. That's only $20,200 per year. Dr. Cousens does not manufacture any supplements and is - at most - only getting a reseller credit. So, you could probably speculate that he's getting 10-20% of that (about $200 - $400 per month. You can buy a supplement from anyone. I have 2 Cousens books: Conscious Eating and the new one There is A Cure for Diabetes... . Neither advertises the sale of supplements - only food.
@redibis07 For the amount of supplements he sells, he could easily be making 40% and more. I dont know if he writes about them, I know for sure he prescribes them, to all his patients. Even if it is at the low end of 200 per month per patient, as you suggested, from 10 patients only it adds upto 2k per month. I took a long and winding way to rawfoods, where everyone was telling the story as they saw it, supplements, powders, nuts, herbs etc etc
hehehe, everyone's always got that same "omg I can't believe how incredibly good this tastes and I thought all you ate was celery" look on their face the first time they try some real raw un-cooking :D it's so priceless every time.
It's nice to see such a warm and positive response from the media. I guess main stream is finally starting to warm up to raw food. :) Maybe it's because she saw it first on Sex and The City, but who cares, really? : )
I am also glad that Raw Foods is getting more press. I know I am certainly trying to promote more about Raw Foods, and the benefits it can provide as much as I can. It is just a matter of time before we here more and more in the media about it. People are really starting to gravitate more towards the diet, what with all of the health issues, allergies, etc... these days. I see Raw being huge in the near future.
Yes, most people plead ignorance, believing that diet really does not play a large part in health. Although this is not entirely their fault as people are duped into false beliefs, and information spear-headed by large organizations, with the only goal, but that of making money. Society has become too medicated, relying on drugs, and medicines to just mask issues, and symptoms, rather than addressing the underlying cause of conditions. I do see, and feel though a change on the horizon.
Nothing compared to the desserts these days, check out sweet and raw pie mandalas. Hmm there's heaps more, but YEH RAW

I recall the best sources being Super BlueGreen Algae and I would guess, E-3 Live. Any thoughts?

A guy in England did that a few years and his test results were not successful. I too have considered it, but not after that study.

I certainly hope so. It may take hitting rock bottom for people to wake up but at least they will know there are options other than drugs.
