  • I LIKE MARTY BETER :(

  • So getting a guitarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • This is killer!

  • lol 666 videos

  • WHAT ARE YOU~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You look like Dirk Nowitzki haha Good lesson though

  • @101cjs

    Do explain..

  • practice makes perfect if ya cant do it then go back to air guitar because ooooo its sooo hard and boring i just want to play !! waaaaa waaaaa

  • Cool exercise. I would like to have seen him stress the use of a metronome when doing these exercises and using it to moderately increase your speed.

  • He speaks so much!

  • fuck these are such frustrating lessons, stop talking and play the fucking thing first, then tell us how to do it, not describe what it sounds like

  • @AviatorAndyK I agree. It becomes annoying.

  • I laughed hysterically through this whole thing. I dunno why :D

  • awesome, ur a champ. this will def be useful :)

  • @101cjs what exactly?

  • Man!! that's good shit!

  • Man!! that's good shit!

  • Not bad but in my opinion - why not building strength with simply playing real music instead of boring exrecises like this? A good classic tune will give you strenght, accuracy AND real music

  • @Harribald This is mainly to improve your shredding solos

  • Question: why teachers always tell you not to lift the fingers whe you go backwards from 4th finger to 1st, but then, when they play, they don't follow that rule and lift all the fingers?

  • Thank you!!!!

  • Awesome exercise and instructions. It has improved my picking and fingering by just practicing it for an hour. I also added metronome as you suggested to play eight notes and sixteenth notes. Thanks :)

  • excellent work! Thank-You.

  • sure beats the hell out of "ExpertVillage"

  • hey dave and everybody watching this, i saw this exercise in a magazine but it was a tad bit different, once you get up to the high e string you go 1,2,3,4 then slide up 1 position before you start to come back down that way you when you get backk down to the low string you end up on the index finger 12th fret 13,14, 15 pinky.... get it? it just kinda makes it completely symetrical... great warmup and strength builder either way

  • this guy has pauses in between strings. he needs to practice

  • umm do u have to do the pinky first wen u reach the end cuz i just do the index first its easier

  • i don't have any problem with strength..xD

  • Get comfortable you know?

    great lesson. great exercise :D

  • Damn that is hella cool

  • hey dave can i have the DVD free please

  • Good exercise

  • first: this is not music people can't learn guitar that way!

second: this is not clean not clear not articulated not a guitar player

third: go to dance breakdance ;)

  • @baccobirra86 YOU ARE BAD

  • shit this guy's fingers is on steroids.................. i've always wanted a super pinky of my own

  • thats not down the neck thats up learn music dude

  • Is that a classic vibe tele?

  • JESUS!!! ITS WOLF FROM GLADIATIORS!!!

  • you need to work on your technique when playing fast, very messy

  • I can stretch my fingers from 1st to 6th fret :) It need some time to do that..

  • thanks man, ive been looking for the past 3 days on how to strengthen my fingers. i tried doin legato patterns but they havent worked out. im gonna do this one.

  • very good exercise........thx bro...

  • you look like Dirk Nowitzki. lol

  • @lebron125 Half-expect him to slam dunk the guitar through the screen.

  • what the hell is Charbok12 problem

  • arrgh!!! my hands are not big enough....pinky can't strech that far...any help?

  • keep practising, takes time for your hands to adapt and stretch that far

i have big hands and i found it difficult at first

  • @lerner987 I'm going to sound like an asshole but it's just practise. Everything seems impossible when you cant do it

  • yeah grow up, how the hell u cant stretch ur fingers? u must have baby fingers, that or quit guitar

  • I'm lucky I never had that problem, my hands are really big but I believe that if you practice on stretching then you'll be able to do it.

  • !!!!

  • I do this but keep going after the 14th.

  • @weaponx29 Its a device that that makes a clicking sound in time and you soeed it up by beats per minute. It helps you get in time.

  • what a metrotone?

  • cool i'm trying this.

  • why not refer to the note names, and not the fret numbers!!! this is why so many guitarists are weak at reading and knowing just what they're playing.

  • generally speaking you are right. these exercises are designed to increase dexterity and the notes are less relevent than the pattern the hand makes.

  • @mortald

very true still... for the sake of time simply saying number is faster...

I teach guitar and I hammer my students on knowing the fret board... I honestly don't even teach them a chord on a string unless they can name all the note on that string.

  • Should my picking hand be my dominant hand? Because im left handed but I fell fine playing a right handed guitar.

  • It's so much more comfortable if you play on a right handed guitar (right hand picks) since most guitars, tabs and guitar stuff are designed that way. It's also so much easier to buy or borrow a decent guitar. How far have you come? You might want to play on a lefty guitar, but it will create a lot of trouble for you. Hope it goes well for you!

  • This helps a lot :/

    I mean, really helps..

I'm at least 1.5x faster than I was before.

Playing songs that require the pinky is easier as well..

Remember, learn slowly, THEN build up speed.

  • great one.. thanks

  • do you recommend hand grips? or those finger strengthening thingies?

  • I've got a supercharged one 4x as strong as what you talking about and it doesn't do shit for my fingering.

  • thanks for teaching. i will try this one though my pinky is hardly to reach E string LOL :)

  • thnx for this!

  • Gret lesson! top claass teaching style..very effective exercise...5 star

  • Awesome Teacher!!!!

  • Great video. Will certainly have to practice this to build up my strength and speed.

  • did this help you. gona try it myself.

  • lol for real, you should check out this guys lesson on how to play "funk". its an abomination.

  • +1 poor comment

  • I didn't know this kind of spider scale, very helpful

  • do "nextevelguitar" have a website in the UK because i would like buy one of there DVD's but i can't.

  • from 3:20 onwards it sorta sounds ike the theme from the tetley tea adverts! lol!

  • 4:35, he said d sting

  • lol he did david taub is the man

  • Tell me if anyone else does this...

Ok, so when I want to go REALLY fast, I put my picking hand up onto the actual frets, it just seems that my pick can go like 10 times as fast... Am I the only one who does that?

  • what do u mean?

  • dirk nowitzki!

  • i might end up here... at the nut. lmao.

  • does anyone know any other excercies for your pinky strength cuz i just realized how much my pinky sucks lol, my family actually has naturally somewhat crooked pinkies, its a trait that runs in my family and i think its screwing me over on guitar :./ its like double jointed and doesnt move smoothly

  • nearly every guitarist i've ever known started off having problems with their pinky strength - it just takes a lot of practice and repetition and you'll gradually improve more and more

  • Most definalty.

Place ALL four fingers on the High E string. (Smallest one.) Simply allign then on the frets as 1 2 3 4. On those frets all on the same string. Now get your pinky and pull of the string (Keep other fingers placed on fret 1 2 3.) And just keep pulling off fret 4 with the pinky. You'll feel alot of burn, that means your pinkys getting stronger! (Best way to bulk it up!)

    Check out makemeguitar(dot)synthasite(dot)co(m)

    or

    makemeguitar(dot)webs(dot)(co)m

  • And if the fingers could talk, all the pinky would be saying while it's burning is 'Guys!! Help me out here man! I need you! Uggh it burns!! Oh the horror!!! Come on ring finger... i thought we were friends!! Don't be like that!!! aaaagh'

Next week your pinky will be cocky. I bet you it will.

It's a good exercise to just pull and hammer with your pinky.... it gets easy after a while :-)

  • That's funny. I wish there was some kind of operation to make my ring finger shorter so it could do as much work as the pinky does... it usually just gets in the way of the harder-working fingers

  • Dr. Gregory House...

  • LOL the guy from house haha

  • Thanks!

  • Seems like a helpful exercise, but why doesn't he mention pull-offs going back through it?

  • cool!

  • very useful, thanks!!

  • cool

  • great vid yur a good teacher

  • oh my gosh! my music teacher taught me this excercise once, mainly for alternating plucking between "m" and "i"

  • 4:35

12th fret on the D sting hahah

For some reason it made me laugh xD

  • lol nice catch

  • I love my D sting

  • @lukea555 why?

  • I've got that amp too and it's the best amp I've ever owned. It would be a great choice.

  • BEST AMP EVER MY SCOOL HAS IT

  • nice exercise, thanks a lot !

  • Isnt that the chromatic scale?

  • not quite

  • well not really, it has a few notes in between... like one or two... but it sorta is...

  • chromatic would be every note possible after the other... every semitone..

  • Great lesson! Anyones whos ever picked up guitar should learn this and other vids posted by Next Level! Good stuff!

  • thank you for posting this lesson =)

  • I always use hammer-ons.. Im a lazy bastard xD

  • yo estoy aprendiendo a la vez que a tocar la guitarra

  • in a way it sounds like buckwethead lol

  • HA HA, That's what I thought too! ha ha ha... like this track from Cuckoo Clocks from Hell ...can't remember the name rite now ha ha... "Beaten with Sledges" !!! ha ha...

  • These exercises sound very similar to Diminished arpeggios. (don't forget to train that ear!!) They're awesome for getting the fretting hand stretched and adding dexterity. The hammer on, and pull off version definitely get my hands burning.

    Rock on!

  • what amp do you use? your fender sounds really good

  • sweeet strat!!

amazing finish on that one, what kind of pickups do you have on that one?
